Re: Whoopi and abortion
Thanks! I appreciate reading your thoughts on it as well, pjpurple. I agree, the news can be very inflammatory. I much prefer reasonable discussions. And discussions don't always need to be about changing each other's minds. Seeing it from another perspective can simply make us more informed in our own opinions.
Re: Whoopi and abortion
meggy, I thank you for your response.
I get thatto a degree. I have to ask, there are 2, well actually 3 people involved, not just the woman even though she is the one carrying the baby. Why does the woman get the choice? What about the father or the baby?
Also, isn't this something the woman should have asked herself before she decided to have sex? There is always the chance of pregnancy, even with using protection.
There are approximately 3,000 abortions daily. I think that number is astronomical. It makes me believe too many are using it as a form of birth control. If abortions weren't available, I think people would start being a lot more careful.
There were approximately 3,000 people who died on 9/11. The same amount that die daily because they're aborted. Everyone was horrified when all those people died on 9/11 (myself included) and yet, few are impacted by that many people dying daily at the hands of their mother because it's inconvenient for these women to have these children who never had a chance at life. I think that is a tragedy.
And yet the window of opportunity isn't that long so there is pressure and a mistake could be made that could last a lifetime.
There are women who after having an abortion have felt relieved that they no longer were faced with how to raise the child, how to pay for the child, etc. but later she may become very depressed, even to the point of suicide. She may experience guilt and possibly wishing she had the child after all. Even if she had to give it up.
No one ever talks about the feelings these women face after an abortion. Are they counseled? Do they have support at home? Are they just left to deal with it on their own?
It has to impact them in one way or another, even if they're lying to themselves about it. I'm not saying that someday they can't be at peace with it but they must go through something emotionally and even physically that they weren't prepared for.
And again, I would just like to state that those who regret their choice should be forgiven.
I appreciate that you came to that realization. Abortion is not a pretty thing.
I have to say, I don't think there is such a thing as a safe abortion. Safe for who? Definitely not the baby. And maybe not even for the mother. The problem is that sin is involved so it's never going to be "safe."
I appreciate your input. I realize this is only your views (as my responses are mine) and that's why I only wanted to know from you, not from a general perspective.
I appreciate your time reading these comments and allowing for this discussion to happen.
The basic reason I am pro choice is because I think the only person who should be able to make decisions for a women's body is that woman.
I get thatto a degree. I have to ask, there are 2, well actually 3 people involved, not just the woman even though she is the one carrying the baby. Why does the woman get the choice? What about the father or the baby?

I don't think anyone should be pressured into a decision either way. Hence the pro- "CHOICE".
And yet the window of opportunity isn't that long so there is pressure and a mistake could be made that could last a lifetime.

However, I did see a comment on Facebook that called pro-choice "pro abortion", which offended me at first. I never looked at myself as "pro abortion". But that comment really made me examine my beliefs, and I realize I guess I am "pro abortion" as uncomfortable as it sounds. Meaning, I believe safe abortion services should be available and that a woman should be able to have an abortion if she chooses.
I appreciate that you came to that realization. Abortion is not a pretty thing.

Thank you for listening! I hope I could offer you the perspective from the pro choice side of things. Please note, this is only my view. I know many women who personally think no one should have an abortion, yet they still consider themselves pro-choice because they think ultimately a woman should get to decide that for herself. I really think there are a WIDE range of opinions from both the pro-choice and the anti choice side of things.
I appreciate your input. I realize this is only your views (as my responses are mine) and that's why I only wanted to know from you, not from a general perspective.

Re: Whoopi and abortion
Thanks for all your thoughts kittenandpuppies. We clearly have different views on this issue and it is nice to be able to express them and listen to one another civilly. Peace!
Re: Whoopi and abortion
Just throwing my two cents in.
I am pro life. But I sincerely appreciate your thoughtful responses Meggy. It is great seeing the conversation that you and Kittens are having. If only more people could communicate this way, so much in our world could be different.
Opinions are like armpits: Most everyone has two and they usually stink. But have a great day!!!!!

Isn't that the truth, iheartkingofqueens? That's all I ask but unfortunately too many on this board would just rather argue.
I realize no one is going to change the others mind, at least if that did happen it would be rare. But it would be nice to have more civil conversations about things that really do matter in life.
Re: Whoopi and abortion
Well one thing I have learned is that no one is going to change their mind due to an internet argument! :) I would much prefer to have discussions face to face, but if someone online asks a sincere question from a place of wanting to see another perspective, I think it is great to have a discussion. Even if the purpose of that discussion isn't to change minds, but to just see how someone else approaches an issue.

Re: Whoopi and abortion
Whoopi always says that nobody wants to have an abortion and that it is a really hard decision. If abortion is okay in her eyes, then why would it be a hard decision? The answer is that she know it's wrong to kill unborn children. Pro choice people always go to the rape scenario as a defense to their argument yet it represents about 1% of abortions. Another 1% is to save the life of the mother. The remaining 98% are for convenience. Abortion is wrong and deep down, everyone knows that to be true.
Dumbest post of 2017you just knocked pjs&pimples off the top spot.

Re: Whoopi and abortion
OH PEE in your pants, you flatter me! NO WAY anyone could knock YOU off the "top stupid" spot!! Really , a person would need a lobotomy to be any dumber than you!
Funny thing is that you quoted someone who made a lot of sense. Not that "sense" and "you" have anything in common. It is interesting that someone like YOU is so PRO abortion considering that you are, what I would deem, the greatest example for what would be one of the WISEST retroactive abortion that ever existed.
Really , is there some reason your mother desired to carry YOU to term? Was she a MASOCHIST? A comedian? An optimist? LOL

Seeing that you are gay, you don't need to worry about this issue. You have other issues to deal with so why don't you step aside and let the women have a civil discussion.

Wow - do you always discriminate like this? Shows what kind of person you are.
As for me, I'm an American who stands up for civil rights of all Americans, whether it pertains to me directly or not. I don't base on race, religion, age, gender, or sexuality - like you do.
If I see rights being threatened to any other American, I will exercise my right to oppose. I don't discriminate, I believe in unity - despite how much the man you call President and your fellow conservatives what to divide the country. It is called 'United States' no matter what that orange man tells you.

Wow do you have some nerve! You discriminate against republicans/conservatives all the time!

No, just republicans!

I don't see any evidence of that.
You didn't add anything to this thread concerning abortion except to slam the OP and pj with this comment:
"Dumbest post of 2017you just knocked pjs&pimples off the top spot."
I mean, what is that? You had zero to add to the conversation, just trying to throw insults and hijack this thread just like the thread about Sanctity of Life Day.
This thread had people on both sides who were having a civil discussion regarding abortion. It is one of the biggest topics that are almost taboo to discuss but we were respectfully able to. I applaud everyone who came here to discuss it (well, except you, because you really didn't want to discuss it).
Please, go ahead. I'd like to hear what you think about it. Without being insulting to every conservative on this board, I'd like to once see you act like you have a heart for people no matter what side they're on.
My dig at your being gay, I just figured you had no input based on your response and because it's not possible for you to have a biological child. And that's not a dig, I'm just stating the truth between what 2 men are capable of. I'm not saying you could not have a child because I realize a WOMAN could carry a child for you. Can we at least agree on this?
I don't dislike you because you are gay. I've told you before, I feel sorry for you. I pray for you. You may not think I care but you would be mistaken even though in all honesty, you are not very easy to like. At least not what you show of yourself on these boards. I hope you are different in person.
Sorry if I sounded offensive before but the way you just jump in with nothing to add but insults, you deserved it.
Re: Whoopi and abortion

I have always discriminated against republicans and conservatives by telling them to stay out of a conversation on this forum and just let the liberals talk ???? When? Link me to a response of mine where I have said this - and please, no 'alternative facts'.
No, just republicans!
Again, when have I advocated for rights for just those who are not Republican? And please - answer with facts, not 'alternate facts'.
I don't see any evidence of that.
Look harder.

As I said in the other thread, this is a PUBLIC message board you are posting on, and it will gather all kinds of responses as everyone exercises their freedom of speech. If you don't want people responding with answers or comments you don't like, or sensitive about a conversation moving into other directions (as you say 'hijacking') then you may think twice about posting on a public forum and consider the alternatives open to you.
This thread had people on both sides who were having a civil discussion regarding abortion. It is one of the biggest topics that are almost taboo to discuss but we were respectfully able to. I applaud everyone who came here to discuss it (well, except you, because you really didn't want to discuss it).
This is not the first discussion this forum has had about 'abortion', and certainly won't be the last - there have been dozens in the past 12 years that I have been on this forum. And everyone has been welcome to discuss however they feel - including men.
Please, go ahead. I'd like to hear what you think about it. Without being insulting to every conservative on this board, I'd like to once see you act like you have a heart for people no matter what side they're on.
As I have said in the past, and I will say in the future - I am pro-choice, which means I believe the choice is up to the woman do what she feels is the right thing to do in her situation. No one has the right to make the choices for her or to limit her choices. And choice means just that - whether to continue with the pregnancy or to terminate it; it does not automatically mean to 'terminate'. I just don't believe anyone else should tell her what to do - unless she asks.
Did you even read what you typed before you hit 'post reply'? I can only imagine that you are posting this nonsense for some kind of 'comic relief'.
If not, I have to ask the question - What in the world difference does it make if a gay man or straight man fathers a child????????? What's next - a gay woman will have no say in abortion discussions because she and her partner 'can't produce a baby together', even though either one is capable of being a biological mother to a child.
I don't dislike you because you are gay. I've told you before, I feel sorry for you. I pray for you.
Like wise, I don't dislike you because you are rather simple-minded. I feel sorry for you. I pray for you, as well.
You may not think I care but you would be mistaken even though in all honesty, you are not very easy to like. At least not what you show of yourself on these boards. I hope you are different in person.
And I feel the same about you.
Sorry if I sounded offensive before but the way you just jump in with nothing to add but insults, you deserved it.
Again, I send the same sentiments to you.

Re: Whoopi and abortion
Ok pvd, you misunderstood much of what I wrote!
I didn't say you discriminated against republicans and conservatives BY TELLING THEM TO STAY OUT OF A CONVERSATION.
I said you discriminate against them - period.
There's a difference.
I'm sorry you thought I was jumping on you coming into this thread and telling you to stay out of the conversation.
My point was if you didn't have anything to add to the subject, what was your point?
I also have no issue with anyone jumping in on any conversations on this board at all. I'm well aware it is a public forum and it's not MINE. Anyway, I'm one of the new kids on the block here, not that that matters though. My opinion is just as valid.
Now getting back to my original point. You do discriminate against Republicans and conservatives so by you saying you don't discriminate against any group is inaccurate. If you really believe you don't, I stand corrected but you have strongly given that impression in your posts. Not just toward me but just about every (or maybe all) Republican/Conservative posters. I noticed this before I ever even made an account.
I told you before, I have no issue with it. Post whatever you want.
I have very thick skin and I don't get upset easily. There's nothing on this board I haven't read online a million times before. Different board, similar comments.
I'm just simply trying to have a conversation with not only those I agree with but disagree with, believe it or not. I accept that my views are not the only views, which should be obvious since I watch The View, a show with essentially only one view.
Ok. That's all I was asking. I haven't been here 12 years, so I wouldn't know. As I've said before, I've only been reading these boards about 16 or so months now but some seem to believe I'm some sock puppet of someone, who would know the history of this board.
I was really hoping to hear from some of the men on the board about this issue so that's why I was sincerely asking you your take on it but you seemed more interested in throwing insults. I really would respect your opinions more if you weren't so darn rude all the time.
Ok, you have totally construed this into something I never meant.
But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt as maybe I didn't explain it right.
All I was saying is that you personally wouldn't be faced with abortion because it is not possible for you to impregnate a man that's all. Not that you personally couldn't have a child because I know there are gay people out there who have a woman carry a baby for them or a man who will donate sperm for a female couple.
Any pregnancy would be intentional and wanted.
Do you know what I'm saying now?
It was all a side note anyway.
However, I was just curious to know your opinion on abortion because no matter the situation, everyone has an opinion on the subject.
In my situation, I'm not going to have any more children but I still have an opinion.
That's all I was saying.
But I thank you for finally answering the question.
See you always resort to insults with your "simple-minded" comments, etc. Just because you completely disagree with me does not mean I'm simple minded, I assure you. You only know about 2% of me as a person, and I you or anyone else on this board.
Ok pvd, I want to challenge you. Is there a way we can clean the slate and start over? I will try my absolute best not to be insulting toward you personally but simply just try to have civil conversations with you. Obviously we are on opposing sides to life's big issues and maybe even in general but can we be civil to one another and just agree to disagree? State our opinions on the subject at hand and leave it at that?
I apologize for any uncalled for, personal insults I have said to you but I don't apologize for what I believe, just like I don't expect you to apologize for what you believe, including how you live. Are you up to the challenge?
I'll even go a step further and say that from now on I will do my best in responding to you, even if you choose not to do the same. Mark this day, January 27, 2017 10:45am, Central time.
I hope you have a very nice weekend, pvd.
