Capote : I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

I haven't seen this movie, and I must be wrong about this, but I thought Truman Capote slept with gay men and then killed them? I might be thinking of a different person, but I could have sworn this was him

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

That is entirely inaccurate. Truman Capote was gay and had a long-term lover, but he never killed anyone. I think you must be confusing him with someone else. He did INTERVIEW many killers, including Perry Smith ("In Cold Blood") and Bobby Beausoleil of the Manson Family, but he was not himself a criminal.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

My mother has informed me that who I was thinking of was Jefferey Domer. I apologize.

I laughed so hard at this I cried.

EVIL DEAD IV IS COMING! REJOICE!

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

I laughed too.lol.
Maybe it was the glasses & the voicedoes kind of remind me of Dahmer in one of the made for TV movies on him I watched

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

I've seen interviews with Dahmer and, well, Capote never exactly popped into mind. :P

Morality is temporary, wisdom is permanent.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Well my mom described Dahmer as blonde with glasses, and I assumed this was the same person because I saw the commercials where Capote is blonde and has glasses.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Come to think about it, Capote might just have loved the opportunity to write about Dahmer!

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

no he'd end up falling in love with dahmer and it'd end up like the last scene in hannibal

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Are you serious? Perhaps you're thinking of Jeffrey Dahmer?? Wow, you really need to do some reading.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

I am 16 actually, you ass, and I apologize that no one ever taught me about deranged and disgusting murderers or the men that interview them. I did not know Dahmers name, therefore I could not 'google' him or look him up on Wikipedia, aka the least reliable source on the internet. I assumed that, because everyone was ranting about the amazing and chilling performance done by P.S.H, the movie was about a killer rather than a journalist.

How old are you, Galves? You must be much younger than I am or are a terrible person because you do not even have the common decency to leave something alone when a person realizes they made a mistake!

Why didn't you burn the tapes?

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

"I did not know Dahmers name, therefore I could not 'google' him"

Hate to pile on because people were a bit too rude, and this is an old thread. But I just had to point out the obvious, you did know this was a movie about someone named Capote, so you could have easily googled that name and discovered he wasn't the serial killer you were thinking of.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Confusing Truman Capote with Dahmer and they wonder what the hell is wrong with the youth of today. You couldn't make this sh!t up.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

You see if it wasn't for this movie I wouldn't know who either of these people are. There isn't exactly a "Murderers and Journalists 101" class at my school. Sorry I'm too young to have lived during the time that this happened.

Why didn't you burn the tapes?

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

well im sure people are just surprised one doesnt really know anything about capote. im 20 and have known who he was since i was little but its just through watching movies and reading up on people. if you want to ask a question that may cause these responses, id just privately google names, to get a quick answer. imdb is filled with people who love entertainers of the past and present and to ask such a question, especially on someone like truman capote will raise eyebrows. just trying to be helpful.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Was Capote buried when he died? If so, he's spinning in his grave over this thread.

Wait a minute who am I here?

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

This entire thread has made my day. I am not being sarcastic - I found this thread hilarious and poignant. I remember when I was 19, my boss, who was an ass, screamed at me for some error I made. I remember using the word "assume" in my response to him. Then he said to me that worn-out clich - "Assume makes an ASS out of U and ME." Over the years I have learned to never assume anything!

I also find it unfortunate when people respond to postings by saying someone is "stupid," an idiot" or whatever. I appreciate intelligent discussion - don't pay attention to those that throw out personal attacks - that only reflects on them, not you. The Internet is a great place, so just enjoy the good stuff and ignore the rest. Peace to you.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

That would have been something. A gay who sleeps with men, murders them and then writes books about it!

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

I don't think the OP finished the movie. That would have cleared up a lot.

I feel sorry for the kid.he didn't know how many people will jump you for asking something that he could have easily researched himself.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

In the "old days," it was common for people to ask questions and not get incredibly rude and volatile responses. When did it become shameful to ask questions whether there are other methods of research available or not?

-Dad, who's that?
-Oh, that? One of my patients. He'ssick.
-Will he live?
-It's looking grim.

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Wow

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

OP: "I thought Truman Capote slept with gay men and then killed them"

In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, "What a MA-ROON!!!"

ROFL!!!

Re: I know this might sound offensive, but it's an honest question

Maybe Capote DID sleep with gay men and then kill them.

Did the OP hear something somehow from someone who knew something we don't??

I can sort of picture it Hmmmm maybe he struck when they were sleeping?
