The X-Files : EW reporting that X-Files order announcement soon

So this seems to be going back and forth a bit but Entertainment Weekly is posting:

Foxs most popular new show last year was the revival of The X-Files, and now the network is finally very close to ordering more episodes.

At the Television Critics Associations press tour in Pasadena on Wednesday, Fox president David Madden told reporters that while the deal-making is complex on the show due to the schedules of stars DavidDuchovny and Gillian Anderson, the network expects to have an announcement shortly.

After Foxs executive session, Madden told us he wanted to have an announcement ready for todays event, but the deal-making wasnt quite done.

Fox is looking to have more than the slight six-episode season that was ordered for last years revival but also cautioned that their order wont be as large as a traditional 22-episode broadcast series.

Most likely, The X-Files will return in 2018, the executive noted.

Regardless of how many episodes get made for season 11, I think Carter should really tie up the series and end it there. I think this is a golden opportunity for him to right the ship as far as the mythology goes.

As well as clean up the mess he made in the revival. What a disjointed, hackneyed load of bollocks that was.

Wouldn't bank on it. I think he will keep the show going as long as he can.

Agreed. Especially with the 30th anniversary in 2023, which is only 6 years away. Please don't tell me they want the show wrapped up in 2023. End it within the next two years and season 11, 12 at most.

I like that television is getting more comfortable with airing seasons sporadically. The traditional 22 episodes September May order is a recipe for staleness. This helps ensure that they do it when they feel it will be of a good creative quality, which helps prevent stagnation.

but yeah, the chances were always high that S11 would happen sooner or later.

Needless to say this news is very disappointing to me, but I guess I can be a little happy for the fans who want to see it happen.

For those who disliked season ten I think I would prefer another season if it means that we may receive some kind of closure or conclusion, as opposed to being left with the season ten cliff hanger.

Sadly, I don't think we're ever going to get a resolution.

Carter's progressed for 10 years so far by just throwing complications at the screen without any plan or solution, so I doubt there actually *is* closure to be had, at least to all the main threads simultaneously.

Plus, the X-Files is still the only real success Carter's had, so his inclination is always going to be to keep that possibility open of further series, just in case he gets another bite at the greenlit cherry.

I can't say I love all 6 episodes in season 10 but man, I wanna more and more!!! Give us season 11, 12, 13.

I remembered that season 10 was mentioned in January 2015 at a Fox Press, and got officially picked up to series in March 2015. Now appears season 11 is following the same pattern, with talk in January, and hopefully they officially pick it up between now and March. So filming can start in summer 2017 like season 10 did.

I hope that's the case!!! There should be inventive ways they can work around Gillian's schedule. Maybe shoot her scenes as a bulk at the beginning or at periods when she is able to attend, although this may be difficult if each episode has a different director and other supporting cast, locations etc

That's true. Why not film some in summer and the rest between August 2017 and early 2018. So the season 11 is ready for April 2018. Doesn't have to shoot all at once.
