The Exorcist : R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
We lost yet another horror legend last night.
William Peter Blatty, who wrote the 1971 “The Exorcist” novel and 1973 feature, passed away last night.
This devastating news was shared by William Friedkin, who directed the feature adaptation of The Exorcist, widely considered the scariest movie ever made.
Blatty may be best known for The Exorcist, but his contributions are much greater. He’s also the director behind the 1980 cult classic The Ninth Configuration, starring Stacy Keach, Scott Wilson, and The Exorcist‘s Jason Miller.
He would work with Miller once again in the 1990 The Exorcist III, which would finally see a director’s cut release last year through Scream Factory under the original title, Legion.
His novels include “Which Way to Mecca, Jack?” (1959), “John Goldfarb, Please Come Home” (1963), “I, Billy Shakespeare! 1965, Twinkle, Twinkle, ), “Killer), ” Kane” (1966), “The Exorcist” (1971), “The Ninth Configuration” (1978), “Legion” (1983), “Demons Five, Exorcists Nothing: A Fable” (1996), and “Dimiter” (2010).
The writer-director would celebrate his 89th birthday this past January 7th. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
I just read that Blatty passed away at the age of 89. Apparently one of the first to confirm Blatty's death online was none other than his collaborator and friend William Friedkin.
It's sad to see him go, but you can't say that a man who lived to be almost 90 and who was the creative mind behind such an iconic film didn't live a full life.

Rest in peace, Mr. Blatty. Best horror writer ever.
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
The world is a poorer place without this luminary. RIP, William Peter Blatty, and best wishes for your family and friends.

RIP Mr Blatty, and thank you for creating works which still entertain, inspire and provoke debate after so many years. I will always hold a special place for your work.

:( :(
My favorite novel of all time.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Sad news but he was very fortunate to have lived a nice long life. Rest in peace Mr. Blatty and thank you for the nightmares!

Rest in peace, William Peter Blatty...the man who wrote the film that ultimately shocked, stunned and horrified people around the world.
That is just amazing to me.
Thank you.

Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
RIP Mr Blatty. The Exorcist will live on as the single-most terrifying story I've ever known. Thank you, very sincerely, for scaring the hell out of me as a kid and for teaching me what fear really is. You will be sorely missed.
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Actually found out about this checking this board on Imdb. I had to wipe out some tears and felt as if a friend had died.
Best movie of all time, the only novel I could ever read in one sitting, a Inspector Clouseau flick and a number of interesting, funny and thought-provoking interviews. Thank you.

Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Good Lord! I hadn't heard a word about it.
Last year and now already this year, so many people in the public eye who had an impact on my life, have died.
And WPB made a HUGE impact on my life!!

Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Now that WPB has passed, I can already picture him and Jason Miller, Jack MacGowran and Lee J. Cobb all getting together in the after-life and having a drink to celebrate their awesome success in the material world!
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
I was thinking something similar, i.e., that WPB be granted his heavenly reward, according to his own Catholic beliefs, where he would be surrounded by the glorified souls of all the real Merrins and Karrases who have preceded him...
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Oh yeah, Bas. I think Blatty would approve of all the philosophical discussions regarding his work on these boards, especially now that he has passed on into the Great Beyond where all knowledge of the universe comes into focus!
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
That's a very nice thought...maybe he'll meet Teihlard and his Cosmic Christ and St. Ignatius the founder of the Jesuits...etc.
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
MacGowran's drink better not have an alien pubic hair in it!
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Perhaps it has an angelic hair of the same type.

"Never seen it there before in my afterlife...have you?"
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
R.I.P...
Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
Rest in peace and thank you for so much quality WPB.

Re: R.I.P. William Peter Blatty
When I was twelve, he terrified me. When I was twenty-seven, he enlightened me. To this day I tell people "It's not a horror book. It's a beautiful story about faith." Thank you, WPB.
