Magnolia : Wow…

Wow…

what a dumb movie.

I don't know how anyone can watch this more than once, let alone finish one viewing.

It was well shot, and that's it.

Stupid story. Pain and suffering, raining frogs, rapping black child, whining Julianne Moore, gay whining William Macy, abandoned Tom Cruise, crying cokehead.

Re: Wow…

I feel the same. Struggled to the end and it was difficult.

Re: Wow…

The first two hours of this movie was very painful to watch, but the last hour made it all worthwhile.

What you mean is "I don't know how anyone could finish one viewing, let alone watch it more than once". You see, the "let alone" part has to be a greater achievement than the first part, otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

Reality is the new fiction they say, truth is truer these days, truth is man-made

Re: Wow…

Finally a guy who lives up to his handle. Shut-up Flanders.

Re: Wow…

What about the picture?

Re: Wow…

He's small minded and unable to grasp what the film is saying, much like John C Reilly's character at that moment in the film.

Re: Wow…

Ah, yes of course The 'Small minded' retort, where anyone who disagrees with your ingenious perspective must simply be "small minded" (stupid). Well you're stupid. And why did it take you more than half a year to respond to him? Was that notification lingering for that long or do you just roll through all your great posts once in a while?

Re: Wow…

"Small minded" doesn't mean stupid. It means being unwilling to look at something as it was meant to be observed just because it's not normal for you and then forming a rigid and uncompromising opinion of it. Gene_Simmons13 porobably isn't stupid, but his quick and simplistic dismissal of the film is a characteristic of someone acting "small minded".

Yes, the notification was there for several months. I don't spend my life on IMDB.

I can't say if you're stupid or not (though, you're ability to understand what "small minded" means gives me some inkling) but I can say that you need to find something in your life to make you less angry. You're disproportionately hostile towards a stranger online for a comment that wasn't directed at you. Or maybe you're just a d***. Either way, go outside. It will do you good.

Re: Wow…

I just find it amusing that the notification would linger that long in your inbox. You just let it sit there unread for months, lol. Most people click or delete unread emails.

I was not angry at all, I can't remember the last time I was really angry. Well I could explain how much more I go outside than you probably do but since it's been pretty clearly established that you are an idiot what say we just let it be since you'll probably take 3 years to respond. You take care friend.

Re: Wow…

Do we have to let it be? I would love to hear you explain how you probably go outside more than a person you've never met before. I'm sure the rational would be sound. And then you can teach me to not be an idiot by helping me unlearn what small minded means.

I'll be back in a few weeks. I'm gunna try to get out more. Just knowing that you probably go out more than me is making me feel like I'm not cool and popular.

Re: Wow…

I really doubt knowing anything about me is making you feel uncool and unpopular, I'm sure you've felt that way your entire life since I'm guessing you love this movie. You probably like "Ghost World" and let me guess "Happiness" is on your greatest movies list as well. Poor you.

Yeah, maybe I am just a dick. Are you an expert on such psychological issues? Of course you are, you are on a "Magnolia" forum. In order to be disproportionately hostile you would need a medium for comparison. My initial response was the first time you've heard from me.

I can't say if you're stupid or not (though, you're ability to understand what "disproportionate" means gives me some inkling) but I can say that you need to find something in your life to make you less stupid. Either way, stay inside. It will do (anyone around you) some good.

Hey now I've felt uncool and unpopular my entire life, but I had no idea it was related to loving this movie. :P

Re: Wow…

the lesson is listen to the wisdom of mysterious black kids instead of middle aged white oafs. unfortunately to follow through you're going to have to stop watching Magnolia (1999)

Re: Wow…

The movie really did f all for me. There were parts that I enjoyed here and there, though over a 3 hour experience from PTA, I would expect that. I have to consider what this movie was trying to be, it got nowhere near it for me. I know that it did for plenty of people and I don't dismiss it being a "good film" just because of that. They like it, find it impressive. Me, not so much.

The movie that won the oscar that year, American Beauty. Now that's a movie that makes me care. Fantastic set of characters who I was thoroughly interested in, and they all performed exceptionally. After Magnolia, I was totally underwhelmed.

Someone should really take this style and give me a movie that entertains me. I like intertwining stories. I just have to actually be interested in what's going on.

Re: Wow…

Not to mention the scenes with the smart kid. I like the premise, just some of the characters where so annoying.

Re: Wow…

I wasted 3 hours of my life watching this movie and all i got from it was a feeling that i've been robbed of something.

Re: Wow…

To the OP.No joke Best review yet. But you forgot the characters singing the Aimee Mann song That was lame, stupid, and cheesy. I do like the part when J. Moore is at the lawyer's office confessing she has cheated many times and says " I've sucked other men's C0CKS! " she says it with feeling.
