Yossi & Jagger : Anyone caught this?

Anyone caught this?

Most people has rated this movie positively, some negative, mostly dealing with technical aspects such as cinematography. I suppose if you are into those fields and look at movies for what the camera is doing, that is fine, however, I wonder if these people miss the point of watching a movie. Maybe if they are x-military or officers (struggling with sexual identity) you overlook the technical aspects and enjoy the movie. This message on the board is to bring an interesting point and see someone else saw it. At the very end of the movie when Yossi walks into Lior's house, no one from the military (except for Yaeli) talks to him, only Lior's parents. The colonel and the other Lieutenant (I am sure he told the colonel) stare at each several times. Was this the director's way of saying that homsexuality still not accepted in the military. By the way I also read an old message on the board about Goldie being a slut or a whore. Again being x-military, even in the advanced and progressive Israelite Army (which I admire), like any other Army in the world, women fall in the military under two categories: dykes or sluts.

Re: Anyone caught this?

Actually, this movie, instead of avoiding such stereotypical pitfalls, it is trapped in them and embellishes them. From the outgoing "bottom" gay man to the "Straight-acting" Yossi; the girl who does not see what is going on in front of her when she falls in love with a gay man. There is the token slut who sleeps with her CO in order to ger favors (and incidentally, she is portrayed as a sex crazed nympho. Even the CO is a flat, uninteresting character, quoting lined from Apcalypse Now; the perfect, dull, picture of an army officer.

Far from having a pertinent message, this movie has no real moral, and is a heap of sterotypes and cheap tricks.

Re: Anyone caught this?

Of course, he's wrong about that - at least when it is the Israeli army he is talking about. Women in the Israeli army are all recruits, just like the men there is no reason to think of them as dykes just because they are in the military. That might be a good American stereotype, but it doesn't make sense in Israel.
