The Animatrix : Liked all segments except Matriculated
Re: Liked all segments except Matriculated
Apart from the superbly amazing graphic, the story is thought provoking and supremely creative. It's simply the work of a genious (Peter Chung).
(Spoiler warning)
The story is about "anti-matrix" Instead of human getting into the minds of machines (the matrix), here a machine is to explore human minds.
A group of human including scientists and soldiers stationed in a watch house. They decided to try to "convert" (not re-program) a machine into siding with human.
They detected 2 machine "runners" (smarter than sentinnels and other machines) and the leading girl was successful in luring them into the watch house and disable the runners.
The human then used a program (just like a training program) to connect one of the machine's "mind" into the minds of their group. Here, the machine was introduced to the minds of human. The runner machine discovered human world. "He" (it turned out that the machine was a "male" machine - you have to allow yourself a little imagination here) was particularly attracted to the beautiful leading soldier girl of the group.
During the experiment, sentinnels invaded the watch house, the group stopped the program and ran. Sentinnels killed most of the human. And the leading girl is captured by one of the sentinels. But now the runner machine has had a human mind. "He" attacked the sentinnels, rescued the girl, and tried to get back to the program with the girl, in order to express his affection to the girl. Something he would be able to do only when their minds connected thru the program.
The girl woke up in the program and of course, she was terified when realizing the machine approaching her. She rejected "him". She tried to run away from "him".
In the end the runner (probably feeling hurt), sitting on the beach rock and looked to the horizon. (Like King Kong !)
What a wonderful piece of cartoon work. Amazing !!!

What I didn't get was: Did the main soldier girl die at the end?

Re: Liked all segments except Matriculated
Matriculated was the only one that I didn't get at first. Had to watch it again.
