A lot of the dead characters also show up. I watched on this the two disc special edition and I see why it was unsold.

Honestly, this must be a joke.
The action takes place before the happenings of the movie!
Lynn just arrives and it is said, Los Angeles, early 1950's. So it can be 1951.
The movie plays in 1953 (Bud & Lynn watch "Roman Holiday" from 1953 at the cinema).

One big consideration was the at the vintage clothes, cars, etc. were too expensive for a weekly series. It would have been frustrating shooting new scenes each week and keeping stuff like satellite dishes, signs etc. out of camera range.
