Layer Cake : Would it have been better with Guy Ritchie?

Would it have been better with Guy Ritchie?

I read in the trivia that Guy Ritchie was set to direct but dropped out. Do you guys think this movie would have been better under his direction? Personally I don't. I think Matthew Vaughn pulled off an amazing job with this film and made it fun and interesting in a way Guy Ritchie couldn't have. Which reminds me, I still need to see Kingsman.

Re: Would it have been better with Guy Ritchie?

I think it might. I can't quite put my finger on it, but to me this movie felt unpolished in a way Guy Ritchie's movies (the ones I consider comparable to this onei.e. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Snatch. (2000), and RocknRolla (2008)) don't. That being said, I do like the end product. I suspect it would've been a completely different movie tonally under Ritchie's direction.

Don't listen to the negative ones; their arguments are irrational.

Yeah I think part of the more serious, matter-of-fact tone of this film would have been ditched in favor of a more comedic tone. Personally I prefer the former.

Re: Would it have been better with Guy Ritchie?

I don't really prefer either to the otherit depends on what I feel like watching at the moment. That's of course why it's nice that there are both kinds: theres's the option to choose.

Sorry, let me rephrase myself. I prefer Vaughn's style for this story. I love Ritchie, Snatch is one of my favorite movies, but I just think he wouldn't have been able to improve upon this fantastic film.
