Friends : The One With the Stain

The One With the Stain

This season 8 episode didn't make sense. We all know Monica loves to clean, and more importantly, doesn't like anyone doing it for her because she feels nobody will do a good enough job. So, when she is just "OK" with Chandler hiring a maid, it just doesn't match her personality. IDKjust something that bugs me

Re: The One With the Stain

Agreed, a really stupid storyline.

Re: The One With the Stain

monica wasn't never okay with the maid that is why she freak out and started accusing the maid of theft

it's never Joan Van Ark- Marge Simpsons

Re: The One With the Stain

I agree with pbfan103

Monica was clearly uneasy about the maid. When Chandler first told her, she said she'd rather Chandler had a mistress, instead of another woman cleaning. lol

Now Erica was a nice maid, and it seemed like Monica tried liking her, but then yes. She had the mentality that there just had to be something wrong, so she says Erica is stealing. But like Chandler said, sarcastically, that Erica stole Monica's clothes, then comes back to wear them in front of her.

Re: The One With the Stain

It was dumbBut funny!!! Without the dumb there can be no funny!

Re: The One With the Stain

It's obviously a set up for a story with disregard to the characters. "I'm afraid a jury will see it the same way!" I think it was a funny enough set up but I wonder if there was any other situation where they would have a stranger working in their house and I can't think of any, so that's probably why the copped out. They didn't need a nanny yet, if they needed a contractor or plumber it would be weird to have one young attractive woman wearing jeans and a visible bra strap, etc.

Re: The One With the Stain

Chandler hired the maid to do his share of the housework like Monica had been nagging him to do (and he presumably is too lazy for), it's mentioned right at the beginning. I think it's hilarious how that nagging backfired for her and Monica suddenly finds that she can't even clean anymore like she does when she's upset because everything's already clean .. I'm not really a fan of the story arc, but there are some funny moments, especially at the end when Rachel points out that Monica has been wearing the bra she thought had been stolen all along. Or when Chandler exclaims "You need more clothes!" Wearing old clothes even when they're worn and damaged because they're so comfortable seems very realistic too, at least to me.

Re: The One With the Stain

It's a poor story and the side stories are no better. Ross trying to befriend a Dutch woman whose mother is dying so that Rachel can take her apartment is pretty weak.

Then you have the Sean Penn story where his character sleeps with Ursula, thinking it was Phoebe. I never liked that arc either.

Re: The One With the Stain

I just don't think it fits Monica's character she'd want Chandler to do a share of the housework since she's a perfectionist that likes to clean and never made Rachel do any share. But on the other hand, if a normal wife wanted her husband to do a share of the chores (totally fair) then it's a dick move to spend money on a maid. If Monica wears old clothes to the point they're damaged and she still wears them, the money for the maid service should go to basic decent dressing. I don't think it's reasonable for a well-dressed woman who's not living paycheck to paycheck to wear clothes with holes and stains.

But while I know I'm over thinking it, it still was a weak story set up.

Re: The One With the Stain

Woeful episode.

Like many episodes post-season 6.

Re: The One With the Stain

You seem to really like to use the word woeful when you seem to actually mean awful.

Re: The One With the Stain

Erm no I mean woeful.

Re: The One With the Stain

If you Google woeful, it throws up awful as a synonym, so I'm quite sure woeful is a perfectly valid choice of word.
