Either way - Wow! What a really sh!tty reaction from you. It was a simple question, answer it if you want to, ignore it if you don't. Or maybe you just wanted to reach out to the community to display the extent of your misanthropy. Just no need for that

I don't think it is important to the point of the film. The emotions are whats important. The movie is more of a symphony or a prayer than a traditional narrative film.

Suicide like Malick's own brother in real life. The film is a loose autobiography, so the suicide isn't implicit but implied.

Getting informed about the death of your son in such a manner looked like the military to me.

That could also be true, but I think the basis for that part of the story is less to do with the military and more Malick's brother.

He died in a car crash. It's explained in the trivia section.

It is based on the directors real life who also had two brothers. One committed suicide at 19 and the other died with his wife in car fire.

In the film, the first brothers death(19 yr old) is not explained. The second brother is shown with burned head wound @ 1 hr 53 min. Later he disappears which is not explained either.

Although(in the film) the cause of death of the two brothers is not important. It rather focuses on the "loss itself" and its effect on family. God, religion and philosophy is used to assist in the grieving process:

"I'm a believer in you god. My allegiance is to you and only you. I am fully loyal to you. So why have you given this life of tragedies to me? WHY ME?"

What about the kid that drowned at the pool?

That was a neighbor boy, not the youngest brother (Steve, as played by Tye Sheridan).
