American Dragon: Jake Long : SEASON 2 HAS THE WORSTANIMATION !!!!!

It's a different logic for the show. The entire concept revolves around growing and development for Jake, and Steve Loter was just helping to extend it to his physical form.

Yeah, the first season form had the muscles and large physique, but they sure didn't do a lot with it; the action scenes were generally short and boring compared to Season 2's stuff. (Also, Season 1 Dragon-Jake used kung-fu. Why's a dragon doing martial-arts?) In the new season, Jake at least moves and fights a lot more like a dragon, making for a lot more intense fights, and generally just a lot of cooler moments.

But, hey, if you didn't like the show in the first place, why are you even commenting?

I dunno maybe when the animaters started on both shows they didn't realize they'd want to make the characters grow into being big strong heroes so they reverted them to get less buff then rebuffed.
But I think you should give American Dragon a chance it's much better story wise than Danny Phantom especially romance wise considering that we already know he's going to hook up with Sam, who is hipless (like Danny's sister who should have hips since she's older than Paulina who has hips), it's not even like they get totally have a rocky lovelife Jake has to work hard to keep Rose.

I agree and also think the new animation is a catastrophe. Personally I think someone should e-mail this list of opinions to the director to help him realize his "new fresh look" is a crappy bad look,and they should revert to the old style. I personally will continue to watch because I really like the show but the new style honestly takes away from my enjoyment of it, because it bothers me that the characters look awful. Hopefully if enough viewers stay through the awful animation of season 2 in season 3 they will bring back the original MUCH better animation style. But, hey, that's just my opinion.

i actually like the animations better now, they're all like little puzzle pieces! the only thing i dont like are the dragons, i think they are a little strange lookin.

Fu Dog- Duh he's magic, no need to make him act and look like a real dog.
Jake- He's a New Yroker Chinese are like thin people. Jake has gotten thin.. His hair?!?!?!
Gramps- He is like a troll doll now.. Cute one moment, and hideous the next.
Huuntsclan and his school- What is up with that? Now you can see the huntsmaster's eyes!
New York- Looks waaaayyy better
Trix and Spud- They are okay, just Spud's new hair.

I like most of the changes.

Fu Dog's change makes him look more canine-ish, which was a factor that was pretty much non-existant in Season 1.

The Huntsman's new look is better. I like the fact that they took away the glowing eyes; you already have a bunch of mystical, mysterious creatures and villains in the show, so why not try and show that he really is human? Plus he's more buff, which is a nice touch.

The Oracle Twins are still good. The more pronounced juxtaposition between the two is a nice change, and it helps express their differences better.

Huntsclan overall looks better, Trixie and Spud look better, and Jake and his dragon form still looks perfectly fine.

The only real qualm I have is with Lao Shi and his dragon form. It would be better if they kept the green highlights for his eyes as a dragon. Really though, it's not something that bothers me that much. He still looks good.

yeah i kinda agrre with panzergmr46-1 there are SOME thiings i like about the changes but why did they change the animation? well i like some changes cuz spud looks kinda better and the oracle twins are a little bit weirder but when jake tturns into a dragon it kinda looks tacky

The designs were made to correspond with the kind of style they were applying to Season 2. It honestly looks a lot better overall. Animations are more expressive, leading to more intense battles and better comedy scenes. When I look back to Season 1, things just seem a lot lessanimated.

I liked season 1s expressions a hell of a lot more, they seemed really. expressive, Jakes expressions in season 2, just seemed annoying, I lked the more anime style action they were heading to with season 2, but there were too many changes to the character of Jakes Dragon, that didn't draw me in as much, therefore didn't draw me into the action like He was being beaten up by humans his age, what kind of magical protector has he become?. I enjoyed every second of the season 1 animation, the looks the feel, the backgrounds. While Jakes Dragon form didn't look as bad as thought it would, it still had nothing compared to the first season, and Jakes Human form annoyed me to no end.

Now this is just a case of preference. But either way, seeing the fight scene with Fury and Jake in "Bring It On" for the first time, I have to say it outclassed nearly every other action sequence from Season 1. The amount of actions, the superb animation of the gorgon, and the way Jake's new dragon form helped to compliment the new style. Despite the more burly form of Dragon Jake in Season 1, he sure didn't do much with it. Oh, I guess there was his kung-fu, but does a dragona creature that can breath fire, wields claws that can rip through concrete and can flyreally need to know kung-fu? The new animation just helps to situate the more intense action that's already been exhibited in the beginning episodes of Season 2, and it works wonders.

Oh, and just to dose some logic to the argument, Jake really didn't have much to do against the cheerleaders; they're basically innocent humans being exploited by a villain, and he can't harm them (a similar situation exhibited in "Half Baked", one of the best episodes of Season 2and the entire series).

What's with the new art??

The art of American Dragon has been in a state of continuous development since the very beginning.
However, the unusually long scheduling gap between the final episode of the first season and the beginning of the second season has forced the Disney Channel to repeatedly re-air the same few episodes (from the end of Season One) over and over for nearly a year now.

Long time viewers who have become accustomed to the "look" of that small handful of episodes from the end of last season may be surprised to finally see new changes going into the second season.

But once you get used to seeing new episodes again, I think you'll find the stories in the new season every bit as exciting as when you fell in love with the show in the first place. And you'll agree that the that the ongoing evolution of Jake's character and artwork remains true to the philosophy of the showThat Dragons change over time.

This is one of the things that makes American Dragon unique, and extremely different from traditional animated shows, where nothing ever changes, and villains are never really defeated, and the artwork tends to be very static from first episode to last.

On American Dragon, you will see Jake (and even Haley) continue to grow and develop. Jake learns from his mistakes, and gains additional powers. New characters will appear and develop. Stories will reach surprising conclusions, and new ones begin. Secrets will be revealed. And unlike typical cartoons where the bad guy always seems to get away in the end Evil will be defeated. But perhaps I've said too much.

Cool things to look for: Catch a glimpse of the secret Magical Map of New York City during some of the scene transitions.

Yeah, God forbid that someone have a different opinion and actually, you know, LIKE the changes. The only reason I keep hearing for people hating the new designs is that they're different from Season 1. Oddly enough, I also hear from people who despised Season 1 that they are currently loving Season 2's general new style, from animation to the storylines to the much-needed character tweaks.

I keep the tv on in the background while I'm on the computer, that's how I know about the storyline. I didn't WATCH it, but I did HEAR it. As far as my reasoning for not liking the new animation: it looks like a deconstructed style of the orginal artwork. If you like the changes, more power to ya! I'm just voice MY opinion. You know, one that differs from yours.

You're the one saying you can't possibly FATHOM why the new team who took over for Season 2 (which is nearly all of the Kim Possible team) would actually LIKE the new style.

By the way, if you're not actually *watching* the show, you're missing a lot. Namely, the much-improved action sequences and generally neat style tweaks for Season 2.

Once again, people claim they don't like the animation because they like the Season 1 animation more. If you're gonna keep comparing it to Season 1, of course you're not going to like it. You're going to keep realizing that it's different, and you're not going to enjoy it. If you get past thatby looking at it on its ownyou'll see that there are a LOT of improvements to the show. Better writing, positive personality tweaks (Jake's slang and hip-hop baditude is toned down, namely), snappier and more intense action, and some really great stories.

I agree with everything you said. I'm not a Jake Long fanatic I just generally like the show. I think it's the best written show on Disney channel and that they's take it off just to add a new season to Kim Possible really makes me so mad.

I really like the new animation, when I watched the first season I liked it but it was plain and the show's originality overshadowed it. I like the new designs because the characters had more individually shaped faces. I think the designs were improved I only found Rotwood (his hair mostly) and the Oracle twins (if they had more similarities it would be better but I like the individuality) and the new dragons (though it is the hardest to get used to it kinda grows on you) to be distracting. I really like Rose's new look I thought she looked plain in the original revamped she looks beautiful. Jake look cooler I like his new hair.

I'd be more irked if the animation reverted to original it would be silly because it would be hard to tell the order of episodes maybe they could get a mixture of the two styles but I like this better.

Yeah, I agree. I was watching it, and there were the twins and I didn't recognize them. I thought it was Rose. And then they were like, oh it's the twins. I hate the animation, it annoys the crap out of me. The only person that I can recognize that isn't part of the regular cast was like Brad.

The dragons suck, it looks like you could snap them in two! And Joannaxd is right about the Oracle Twins. I was like, "They added a goth and a prep! Why are they TOGETHER?" and then they said it was the twins I nearly DIED!

I agree with everybody else. Season 2 seems too cartoony, compared to Season 1. Also, the original theme song was better.

Well I dislike it as much as the others, but its becoming an overdrawn issue. Keep watching the show, keep the ratings up, and there will be a third season. Steve Loter does listen to all the complaints. Im sure in the third season he will probably integrate all the positive stuff from the first season such as the old dragon and less blocky people with the new improved stuff like Action sequences and the storylines. That will create an ultimate season.

Hey guys I have an idea, how about instead of b****** over the animation (sorry T.T)we make a petition? Im pretty sure there will be enough people to convince them. I mean that one 11-year old boy started a petition to change the apearence of the loonatics and it worked. Why cant we try to change ADJL back to the way it was?

I know what you all mean, like when I saw the commercials for the new season I was like, uhm what the heck is this? I thought it looked like crap, and I had just a bit of trouble focusing on the showbut I guess I got used to it, except one thing I dislike. They finally like touched up on the whole Oracle Twins, the cheery one who sees the bad stuff is all blonde and happy, while the depressed one who sees good stuff is all depressed looking? I liked the way they looked before.

I think it looks cooler. Jake's Dragon form was changed drastically because they wanted a more Japanese style dragon, not so Medivel. The change would've happened with or without the new cartoonist.

Ok, yall. I think they look more like real teenagers now. They suck when they're dragons but besides that the animation is better than the first. The thing about most of you people is that you are to used to the old animation and don't like change. apparantly not everyone can handle change. Also, it has better episodes now and is more interesting then before. Oh, and for you haters that are no longer watching the show because of the way they draw it now and because you want them to CANCEL the show, News flash people! It AINT GONNA HAPPEN. American dragon has higher ratings now then ever before. Don't expect anything to change.

Great unprdictable storylines in Season 2 but the art isn't THAT bad. The only thing bad is how this artist draws dragons.

Actually, for a while, I have to admit that I did hate the animation for American Dragon: Jake Long..but only for a while. I actually blamed "Kim Possible" for the change of art, so I stopped watching that show o-o. But then, I got used to the change, and I started to thank "Kim Possible" for the new animation change. You have to admit, everyone except Jake, Gramps, Fu, and the Oracle Twins look better in Season Two. The animation isn't that bad..

yeah, i used to love the show, but now i only watch it when i am flipping through channels and there is nothing else on. it really ruined it for me.

The animation may not be the best thing, but I don't really care about it, what attracts me is the story line itself
and for some reason i like the new animation

the problem in itself is not so much about which is best or worse in animation(and theme song)

IMO season 1 is better, but is my own opinion



the issue is that they changed so drastically from one season to the next

just imagene if the simpsons suddenly changed their animation format from one we are used to, to one that is similar to mulan

Alright, ill admit it, the new style is starting to grow on me. i still hate how grampa looks like a freaky little elf and jake in dragon form looks like a wimpy snake thing (not quite and eastern dragon, not quite a western dragon, although maybe thats the point)
but all in all i like the new look for most of the characters, even if some of them are a little blocky.
