Re: Actors age 100 and older

The day after you post this a Lupita Tovar passes away. Time to edit.

All the world is a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.

Lupita Tovar

Oh, what sad news! But what a long life she had, staying with us until she was 106. And what a legacy she left with her own work and through her family's, from daughter, actress Susan Kohner, to Kohner's sons, writers/directors/producers Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz.

May she rest in peace.

Re: Living Actors age 100 and older

Although he wasn't an actor but a director, I think he deserves being mentioned: the Portuguese Manoel de Oliveira, who passed away last year, aged 106, and he was still directing. A tremendous career that spanned 80 years, and Portugal's greatest film-maker.

Manoel de Oliveira

I'm sorry to say I don't know his work, but I certainly know of him by reputation and longevity. When he passed away last year I found some of his films on youtube, but they were all in Portuguese so I could only watch parts of them for their imagery, which was always beautiful. But I particularly enjoyed this montage tribute of (I presume) images from his films, so evocative and at times even provocative.

I think he must have been a truly great director.

Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh, what a beautiful day.

Re: Manoel de Oliveira

I have to say that I found out about Lupita Tovar's passing out just through your post, and I felt sad. I only knew her as the leading lady in the 1931 Spanish-speaking version of Dracula (which I have never seen), but on the DVD I've got of Tod Browning's classic film, among the several extras there is the documentary The Road to Dracula, in which she appears, in her late 80s or early 90s I guess, and tells about the Spanish-speaking version they made and how they made it back to back with the American version and so, which is quite interesting. And she looks such a nice lady.
The fact that she lived to reach such a long age is remarkable.

Almost Kirk Douglasalmost.

Re: Living Actors age 100 and older

Don't say more! It's still a month to go and anything can happen.
A great-uncle of mine died just two months before reaching his centenary in 2012. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were already preparing his 100 birthday party and then one morning, just a few weeks short of the date, he didn't wake up.

Norman Lloyd is a machine! That's great, love that guy.

I just want you to know, my safe word is "pineapple".

Norman Lloyd

Oh, you're not kidding! I recently saw him on the TCM tribute for his 101st birthday (though he's now 102), and he's as sharp as a tack. What an extraordinary man. Still plays tennis once a week, I believe. Go, Norman!

Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh, what a beautiful day.
