Moon : 8.0????

8.0????

God, people shít me. This movie is brilliant and deserves a much higher rating.

Re: 8.0????

8 means exceptional, just as 10 means exceptional. it does not matter, really. it is a mass based voting system.

Re: 8.0????

Personally i rated it a 10, because if i really like something, i just cant help but vote subjectively.
But im happy with the 8 that its got, nice and round.
Its not perfect, but its definitely not a hack either, its not for everyone, but it does what it does really well.

I wouldnt rally for a higher rating, but i would be sad to see it sink lower.
Not that it would change my personal opinion of course, because i think this movie is up there with the classics, not with the mass-produced blockbusters or cashgrabs.

Re: 8.0????

Yeah. Surprised me too.
This should be a 6.
Interesting little mystery, but a bit too silly.

Re: 8.0????

I gave it a 5, it's a who-dun-it, could you honestly say you'd want to sit through this depressing movie again?
A good sci-fi should have more sets, characters, or even action.. This was more of a psychological thriller, or who-dun-it.

Re: 8.0????

so, who-dun-it?

Re: 8.0????

You know what I mean, that is a term us older folk 30+years give to these movies based only on one idea, rather than multiple feelings, situations or moods to relate to, One actor, one set, with a one idea movie is great the first time, but to watch again?
The Machinist is also similar to the who-dun-it category, although I could watch that again because it has a great cast, sets, and emotion. Albeit a few months would have to go by for it.
Not to offend anyone with my opinions about Moon, sorry to troll, but I have a "fav sci-fi" list on my channel, and I guess my head is just in a different place, but isn't IMDB great for crazies like me?

Re: 8.0????

But a who-dun-it needs a climax, a big reveal or revelation.
Like 'A Beautiful Mind' for example.
Moon doses these things throughout, you find out about the clone thing really fast, the anticipated hostility between the clones and eventual cooperation also happens in the middle, then there is some discovery of the secret room, with Gerty filling in the gaps, while the latter part of the movie is doing its best to avoid a confrontation until the very last seconds, to which we still have no conclusion.
Moon isnt very 'one-track' as you might think on first sight, it just depends on what you focused on or expected from it.

As for cast, Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey and Matt Berry, ive got nothing to complain about.
For the same reasons as you listed, i would rewatch Moon, but not The Machinist, because i dont specifically like Christian Bale, but i wouldnt disagree on it being a good movie, just dont feel like watching it again.

Crazies like you, well i dont know, this board is not very active compared to Warcraft. Not even that movie really increased the activity of this board, luckily.
But are we supposed to think what you think?
There are people on here who have the same opinion as you do, maybe you can just look around first?
Same counts for the questions that you asked in your thread, they have been asked before many times, i just thought to have been polite to answer them again, but its a pity to find out that you didnt even like the movie.

Anyway, yeah, im not really sure what to tell you otherwise.

Re: 8.0????

if you think moon is a simple movie with only one idea, you haven't spent any time looking through the threads here to notice that it's chock full of ideas. we can't even agree who the movie is about! i can't even guess what the "one idea" is that you're thinking of.

it's pretty subtle though, which i think rewards multiple viewings. at least it has for me.

Re: 8.0????

I guess I really went into it thinking it's an addition to the sci-fi category, especially with the name MOON, but it didn't have much to do with space or sci-fi in movie terms, more of a thriller you could argue, and it was hard to watch one actor and virtually one set for 90mins sorry.
Can we really think of any other movie that essentially only uses one actor and one set? That's risky as a film maker, and not in a good way.

Re: 8.0????

making perfect clones with edited memory implants to run a completely isolated base on the moon accompanied by a highly functional artificial intelligence isn't science fiction?

it wasn't a thriller at all. it's a character study/philosophical film in actuality.

i found it very easy to watch one actor on one set because he was excellent and it's a very well written story.

there's another thread about movies that use few actors, you might want to look it up. gravity pops to mind as it's mostly sandra bullock on her own. i found gravity mildly entertaining while watching it (oh look! it's the frogger video game in space!) but deadly dull to talk about afterwards. lots of different sets though, and really exciting action(tm)!!!! you'll probably like that one better than moon.

Re: 8.0????

You`re right it`s a "character study philosophical" film, but not really a sci-fi in movie terms, they should drop the name MOON

Nice attempt at the Gravity suggestion insult ;)

Re: 8.0????

wow - so what part of perfect clones with edited memory implants at a permanent moon base that provides the majority of earth's energy, a highly functional artificial intelligence and regular space travel isn't sci-fi-ish?

and since everything actually happens on, y'know, the moon, maybe "moon" is a perfectly fine name. 😄

since you haven't ever said what you think a real sci-fi movie is, i can only guess that the action! explosions! special effects! more than one actor! from gravity would be more to your liking since you complain about moon not having those things. it didn't do it for me.

all the best science fiction movies are philosophical movies.

Re: 8.0????

Check out my sci-fi list if you'd like to see.

Again nice attempt at the "action, explosions" insult ;) CGI is the worst thing to happen to film.

I really hope you didn't enjoy this new Arrival movie, total cliche crap.

Re: 8.0????

Check out my sci-fi list if you'd like to see.

nah. your tastes are obviously different from mine so there's nothing there of use to me

Again nice attempt at the "action, explosions" insult ;) CGI is the worst thing to happen to film.

it's not an insult, it's what many people have trouble with moon for (the cgi bit is irrelevant - you can have plenty of real explosions and still be dull).

I really hope you didn't enjoy this new Arrival movie, total cliche crap.

haven't seen it, don't know anything about it.

Re: 8.0????

nah. your tastes are obviously different from mine so there's nothing there of use to me

Being a baby much? Ya you hate Eyes Wide Shut, and loved Grease, I'm opposite there.
You also love Batman & Robin, I'm actually speechless here.. But as you also rated all these new CGI comic movies high, even the new Robocop, I don't think we'd click.
We both loved Westworld which is actually on my sci-fi list, and
Der unbekannte Soldat. I think I could educate you on good war movies.

Well CGI and moon, lack or plenty of, have nothing to do with my opinion, it's an intelligent movie, but I'd never want to watch it again. So essentially it fails as great art.
You're a sweet cup of tea, I hope you waste your money on Arrival, if you like Moon TFA you'd probably be a fan

Re: 8.0????

yeah, eyes wide shut was deadly dull watching tom cruise walk a lot. yawn.
grease was dumb fun with catchy tunes.
batman & robin is hilariously over the top goofy.
the new robocop was less terrible than i thought it would be. didn't love it, by any means.
i didn't love the old westworld at all. good concept, badly done.
der unbekannte soldat was fascinating, but not a war movie. and from your war movie lists...nothing you can educate me on there.

i forgot that you were the final word on what's great art and what's not. i stand corrected. i've watched moon probably a dozen times, it's too bad i'm wasting my time on it.

i have no interest in arrival, from a quick glance at it.

Re: 8.0????

I'm shocked at your modesty to leave such an honest review, I wouldn't share opinions on those movies you liked online... Well since I hate them it doesn't really matter.
Eyes Wide Shut is really more for people that have been in relationships with the opposite sex, so some may not relate to it.
Soldat was a documentary not a movie you're correct, but dealing with the third reich still.

Oh awesome so you've really seen all those war movies I have in my lists, finally I can chat with someone that has.
What's your take on the endings of Long Days Dying and Beach Red? Which was the most horrific murder in Men Behind The Sun?

You like Moon I respect that, I think it's not horrible, it's just a simple movie. Glad we agree on Arrival, what did you think of Hacksaw Ridge?

Re: 8.0????

Eyes Wide Shut is really more for people that have been in relationships with the opposite sex, so some may not relate to it.

having been in plenty of relationships, i still can't relate to eyes wide shut. none of my relationships were that boring and/or bizarre.

Oh awesome so you've really seen all those war movies I have in my lists

i didn't say i'd seen all the movies on your list, just that they didn't look all that interesting.

what's my take on the endings of long days dying and beach red? they're most likely not as good as apocalypse now or all's quiet on the western front or glory. the most horrific murder in men behind the sun pales in comparison with come and see, and i doubt it surpasses paths of glory, henry v, shoah, or life is beautiful.

and none of the movies you listed approach the artistry of the life and death of colonel blimp or the thin red line.

i'm about as likely to see hacksaw ridge as i am arrival.

Re: 8.0????

they didn't look all that interesting

Right but Batman and Robin was, I understand.

not as good as apocalypse now

Do you actually think Apocalypse now was a realistic war movie? You thought the ending was good? That was the worst part, man I could educate you on that movie right there.

Glad you've at least seen Come And See.. But if you would broaden your horizon Men Behind the Sun, is 100x more graphic than Come And see. You must be trolling if you think paths, henry v, shoah, or life is beautiful had surpassed horrific murders, funny joke though. ...Haha

The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp

..You're a funny guy.

At least we also agree on hacksaw Ridge being terrible, you haven't gone full crazy yet.

Re: 8.0????

Right but Batman and Robin was, I understand.

when you've got kids that watch it over and over, it's unavoidable. after a few watchings it becomes hilarious. chill out!

Do you actually think Apocalypse now was a realistic war movie? You thought the ending was good? That was the worst part, man I could educate you on that movie right there

realistic? who said anything about realistic? i just said it was a great movie with a great ending, and it is.

Glad you've at least seen Come And See.. But if you would broaden your horizon Men Behind the Sun, is 100x more graphic than Come And see. You must be trolling if you think paths, henry v, shoah, or life is beautiful had surpassed horrific murders, funny joke though. ...Haha

you've confused graphic with horrific. for instance, the horrible murder in life is beautiful happens offscreen and it's more horrible than the most graphic on screen murder i've seen. bardolph in henry v. the firing squad in paths. just about everything described in shoah. and your confusion is a clue as to why i doubt your educational abilities.

The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp

..You're a funny guy.

obviously you're ignorant if you think i'm joking.

At least we also agree on hacksaw Ridge being terrible, you haven't gone full crazy yet.

since i haven't seen it, i have no clue whether it's terrible or not. i just have many more higher priority things to see.

so what did you think of verdun, visions d'histoire? amazing, isn't it?

Re: 8.0????

when you've got kids that watch it over and over, it's unavoidable. after a few watchings it becomes hilarious. chill out!

But you gave it an 8 or 9/10 that means you think it's an actual good movie.

realistic? who said anything about realistic? i just said it was a great movie with a great ending, and it is.

..Umm we were talking about good war movies in general, war was a real thing, this isn't Inglorious bastards standards. Did you want to change any other subject before I waste time explaining things?

you've confused graphic with horrific. for instance, the horrible murder in life is beautiful happens offscreen and it's more horrible than the most graphic on screen murder i've seen. bardolph in henry v. the firing squad in paths. just about everything described in shoah. and your confusion is a clue as to why i doubt your educational abilities.

There ya go changing the subject again, you should have said it had better off screen murders which why would anyone bother to chat about? I doubt your overall education with your avoidance and neglect after I prove you wrong each time.

Again we were talking about great realistic war films (well I assumed you would get that) Colonel Blimp was a great dramatic comedy. That is a different chat.

verdun, visions d'histoire was great, as was paths, I'm halfway through Attack, and Hell and eternity, all great infantry movies, not watered down like Hell and back, but I still feel Platoon is the best war movie IMHO

Re: 8.0????

But you gave it an 8 or 9/10 that means you think it's an actual good movie.

no, that means i enjoyed it. there are movies that are so bad they're good and this is one of them for me.

Umm we were talking about good war movies in general, war was a real thing, this isn't Inglorious bastards standards. Did you want to change any other subject before I waste time explaining things?

you're the one changing the subject that now only "realistic" war movies can be good, and that apparently only fighting and death can be real. (inglourious is glorious, btw)

There ya go changing the subject again, you should have said it had better off screen murders which why would anyone bother to chat about?

i'm sorry you have the need for gruesome murders to be shoved in your face to feel anything.

Again we were talking about great realistic war films (well I assumed you would get that) Colonel Blimp was a great dramatic comedy. That is a different chat.

if all i wanted was realism, i'd stick to World War II in Colour (2009) and get all the realism i could handle. i'd rather have a great movie than great realism.

I still feel Platoon is the best war movie IMHO

for its realism?!?! 😂😂😂

Re: 8.0????

no, that means i enjoyed it. there are movies that are so bad they're good and this is one of them for me.

Ok so lot's of your 10 ratings are for the bad movies.. Toxic Avenger is a "so bad it's good" and deserves a 10, I don't think batman & robin is.. You're a video game kid right?

you're the one changing the subject that now only "realistic" war movies can be good, and that apparently only fighting and death can be real. (inglourious is glorious, btw)

Ok so you think a good war movie doesn't have to be realistic, ok I respect that but I disagree, anytime you put the words WWII, Korea, Vietnam etc, it should be realistic to pay homage.

Forgive my typo, I could correct your many grammatical errors too, like lack of capitals, but I think we can keep it casual. Not be a grammar nazi 😋

i'm sorry you have the need for gruesome murders to be shoved in your face to feel anything.

You didn't read that correctly, I was asking which murder in Men behind the sun was most horrific, as a way to test if you've even seen it.. Never did I endorse murder on film

if all i wanted was realism, i'd stick to World War II in Colour (2009) and get all the realism i could handle. i'd rather have a great movie than great realism.

I think war movies should be realistic as they deal with history, you don't. Let's agree to disagree.

Yes Platoon is realistic, you can make fun of me for liking realistic movies that deal with direct history.. I guess that would be funny to a immature child?

Re: 8.0????

You're a video game kid right?

uh...not hardly.

anytime you put the words WWII, Korea, Vietnam etc, it should be realistic to pay homage

and what makes those wars homage-worthy as opposed to others? movies are art. art's ability to play with reality can be more revelatory than pure realism. which is why the hallucinogenic and hypnotic apocalypse now is a greater movie than, say, casualties of war.

I could correct your many grammatical errors too, like lack of capitals

i was making a value statement, not correcting an error. my lack of capitals is a stylistic choice, not errors.

You didn't read that correctly, I was asking which murder in Men behind the sun was most horrific, as a way to test if you've even seen it.

you could have simply asked. i thought it was clear that i hadn't.

I think war movies should be realistic as they deal with history, you don't. Let's agree to disagree.

i agree.

Yes Platoon is realistic, you can make fun of me for liking realistic movies that deal with direct history.. I guess that would be funny to a immature child?

so sergeant jesus...i mean, willem dafoe running across half of vietnam after being shot dozens of times is realistic? all righty then.

Re: 8.0????

Man just copy and paste this, send it to me PM, we have humiliated ourselves enough spanning the MOON board with our egos...

I'd be happy to continue debating there, I don't feel the need to have the IMDB community see how superior we are with each msg, maybe you need that idk.

Re: 8.0????

I gave it a 10. I think it's very worthy of that number.

The more members who rank it 10 here and at the linked sites, the higher it will likely go.

Dear Santa, please send me a Tiffany Mynx clone or lovebot this year.

Re: 8.0????

It's worth 8 just for Clint's score. The opening credits get me every time.
