Bill Burr: Walk Your Way Out : Bad

Bad

Like Bill Burr very much but this was not that good, I just think he acted or role played too much in some of his jokes and that made it drag out too much in some cases. It was pretty boring compared to other specials which I loved

Re: Bad

Fully agree. Also some stuff he's already done on Conan.

Re: Bad

totally agree, this was his worst stand up

i really wasn't feeling or involved in any of the stories.

Is it me but the depth of the jokes are not there at all. He was just like a kid waffling on about stories that no one really cares.

Re: Bad

I agree with you, garvint. His other specials drew me in- but with this, I just could not relate.

Re: Bad

I was disappointed also, and I am a longtime Burr fan. The themes/topics were just so dark (and so lengthy it was uncomfortable). His spin on them just didn't work. I think this was a failed attempt to be 'edgy', and while the audience demographic definitely did not help, I don't think this would have succeeded in New York, either.

Lastly, the story about Koko the gorilla and her pet kitten All-Ball is very old news (the events occurred in 1984 - over 30 years ago).

Another new comedy special that was sub-par (to me) is Jim Gaffigan's Cinco - I felt like he was just phoning it in (jokes about the weather?). I hope both Burr and Gaffigan make a great comeback their next time around.

If anyone is interested in what I *would* recommend, please check out Sebastian Maniscalco's newest special: Why Would You Do That? Very funny- Sebastian's best special yet.

Re: Bad

Bill Burr is definitely one of my favourite comedians of all time, but in this special i barely laughed. I just felt he was too dark, and some of the jokes he has used before but in a better way.

Like the sequence with the population (which he has spoken about before). I felt he nailed it in the special where he talks about when you have to audition to live. Like being the best plumber, or the best comedian. He got his point out in a funny way. This time it was just "meh".

I feel like his other specials is more funny stuff about "peoples daily problems" where he just puts in some conspiracy theories here and there, while making fun of himself aswell to not get all serious. But this time it was more like the whole show was centered around those theories, and it almost felt more like preaching than a comedy act. Just how i felt.

Re: Bad

Whew! I'm glad to know it's not just me who feels this way. It was horrible!

Re: Bad

L.A. got to him. He’s a PC dude now. That place sucks any originality right out of you. Needs to move back east.

Re: Bad

Fair enough. I'm a huge fan of Bill's (long time podcast listener, F is for Family, flew to other countries just to see him, etc.) and I think he will go down as one of the best comedians ever. To me he is the funniest guy out there but I was disappointed with this special too. While superbly acted out, the cruise ship bit felt kind of re-hashed, too long and way too dark. It's probably just me but I didn't see the comedy in executing people one by one at the end. Dark humour is usually my favorite but it just didn't click with me. The other long bit, about the gorilla, I thought it didn't really go anywhere and missed a decent punchline. Or did I miss it? Because 'Jesus said so' was the punchline? Wow. Next to the *genius* conclusion of the helicopter bit in his last special (the dude who jumped out), this one can't even be considered comedy by me, except for the sign language he did. But hey, fair enough, I hope he'll be back with better material. His take on fatherhood will be unique and interesting to see, I'm sure.

It was still much better than Louis CK's (my second favorite comedian) comedy store special though, that one should never have seen the light of day.

Books are a uniquely portable magic. ~Stephen King

Completely agree with you on these two points. It started off looking promising and then kind of tail-spinned. The last joke about the wife making a sandwich and getting a beer just seemed like an anecdote any middle aged guy would tell...

Re: Bad

I like to think bad for bill burr is still better than most stand up comedians, he's going to slip up here and there not every stand up will be perfect, I still had some great laughs from this. I just had a *beep* week and this stand up really cheered me up. The only negatives were the crowd and some of the bits went on to long. Burr should continue with stand up and learn from the flaws you guys found.

Re: Bad

Was with the crowd who didn't seem impressed- huge fan but laughed once ! Pretty awful compared to the genius he provides on his podcast
