John Wick: Chapter 2 : Winston freezing people in park

Winston freezing people in park

What is that all about? As far as I understand, John Wick takes place in our reality, but John belongs to secret culture of assassins, a secret culture that uses gold coins as currency as has its own brutal laws. Also, I gather that a lot of New Yorkers also belong to that secret culture of assassins. But I have been under the impression that Wick's world is part of our world, the world to which his local cop friend clearly belongs.

If all that is true, how can Winston control people like that? Or is just arranged like a flash mob? Or were all those seemingly normal New Yorkers and tourists also patrons of the Continental?

Re: Winston freezing people in park

I'm pretty sure he arranged the flash mob as a show of force. I would think that someone of Winston's stature and power would have personal guards, some incognito and some visible, at all times whenever he's away from the Continental. Sure the amount of people that stopped was a bit ridiculous but compared to the action, no more ridiculous than anything else in the movie.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

This is exactly how I saw it. It was definitely a power move, and I can't believe people (not attacking the OP) get some wrapped up in this..but not a guy who single handedly takes down an army.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

It seemed very Matrix to me, as if Winston were Morpheus showing John that the world is a construct.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

The only reason that we roll with Wick's ability to kill an army is that the fight sequences are painstakingly done, like in Daredevil on Netflix. Every one of John's individual kills is plausible, if you assume he is a master shot and a master of fighting. Also, he does have a bullet proof suit made for himself.

Often when he gets shot or stabbed, it happens in a non-lethal place, because John has directed the gun or knife to that spot, because it's all muscle (not an organ).

Of course, John's prowess is implausible, but the director makes an effort to show how each individual kill happens.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

You make a good point, but at the same time be suspension of belief for a guy to be THAT GOOD of a shot is pretty hard. Which is why I loved how he went with a shotgun and assault rifle in the tunnels. That was badassplus how they showed him planning and placing so it wasn't just like WOOOO GUNS!

Flash mobs are very real thoughcoordinating people to do something like that would be easy especially since it was "stop moving." I think people just get the wrong idea about that, and it only bothers me because they can suspend call of duty shooting, but not a very realistic flash mob style play.

The whole thing about non lethal woundsthough getting hit by the car and jumping up was a bit tough. is also what makes this movie awesome. John isn't the best hand to hand fighter he needs a gun. Common kicks his ass the first time.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

In the first movie, both Krill and Viggo gave John a good fight. Wick beat Viggo only because he took a knife in his side. John seems to beat opponents who are his equal by absorbing more punishment and enduring more pain than his opponent. If John got a knife is his aorta, he'd keep fighting.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

I saw them as asassins since Winston put the excomunication on him and later in the scene all the persons in the park seemed to get ready to go after him when that hour passes. And those people being the same as the flash mob just before. Which also describes why John at first walks away then start running as he understands he'll have to get to safety fast since the other asassins already have him tracked down.

Re: Winston freezing people in park

It was partially to show John that he needed to think twice about killing him and also to demonstrate the degree of gtfo John was going to have to employ.
