The Lego Batman Movie : Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Hey Everyone,

Just got back from the cinema and I was underwhelmed unfortunately :( I just feel it missed the mark on most counts...

I have YouTUbe review channel and I know this is a shameless plug, but I have to promote my channel somehow right? It would mean a lot to me if you could spare a few minutes and see my thoughts about the film and I would also love to know your thoughts on it too...

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

It's tracking very well so it will probably make money. Not sure what you're talking about.

Obvious clickbait ad is obvious

It's a Lego movie, an animated movie and a Batman movie. I think it's going to be one of the first big success of 2017, together with 50 Shades Darker.

Re: Obvious clickbait ad is obvious

Oh it will undoubtably be a financial success but is it a flop in terms of filmmaking?

Re: Obvious clickbait ad is obvious

When you say filmmaking do you mean critically? Then no. It's doing pretty well critically and most reviews I've seen are mostly positive.

Re: Obvious clickbait ad is obvious

It's also VERY well made. Just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean that it's an absolute disaster. Maybe "Rock Dog" will be more your speed.

Child of the Eighties.
Man of the Nineties.
Man-Child of the Twenty-First Century.

Re: Obvious clickbait ad is obvious

I just saw it too and it was actually better than I thought it would be. By no means is it a flop it's fantastic.

Re: Obvious clickbait ad is obvious

no, because flop refers to financial success not anything in terms of filmaking

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Most of the world doesn't share your opinion, Mr. Wayne.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Well, considering "Monster Trucks" and "Rings" have already flopped, along with others... no, this is clearly not going to be the first flop even if it was absolutely awful and lost a billion dollars. ;3

But I think it'll do fine. It's NOT awful and it's the only new kid-friendly film out. It has zero competition for its target audience ("Sing" will be on week 8, and kids have seen it enough) plus it's based on two properties kids love: Lego and Batman. The title alone will draw millions into the theaters.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

The film is fine and I am sure it will be well received critically and I think it will do well financially as well.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

thank goodness these boards are going away for good. you don't have to see this kind posts anymore.

first flop of 2017 my arse.

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

This is a good post mate Cheers!!!

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Don't care what you think.

And to answer your question: No.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Mark your link doesn't work bro.

I saw it, I sort of see what your saying. The movie is fine, but it's no where near as memorable or game changing as Lego Movie. It over stays it's welcome by 15-20 min.

I think the issue is that it's a children's movie. It's aimed at the ten and under crowd.

There are random nods to the old Batman for fans. The "love" story between Batman and Joker is sort of subversive but very basic. But and a lot more stuff and characters are thrown at you without much distinction between them.

None of the set pieces are memorable. The Batman rap song is nothing veering on embarrassing, it's no everything is awesome that's for sure.

Lego Movie created a lot of good will and this movie will easily coast on those good vibes critically and financially. But two weeks from now you won't be thinking about the movie, but your ten year old will watch it non stop on video when it comes out.

It is a Lego movie that is not an issue at all its a movie based on a kids toy containing mostly kids characters and you need to judge it as such. The Batman rap song is fine but I do agree it is not up with everything is awesome but that was a great tune.

So you are actually saying that the movie will work really well for the target audience but you were somehow expecting something deep and meaningful from a LEGO movie and are now disappointed because the movie lacked the impact of say Schindler's List?

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

You make the common mistake of thinking that a movie that kids can understand and enjoy must necessarily not be rewarding on a deeper level for adults. I guess you have never had that experience. For me, The LEGO Movie was one such, of many.

That said, there are movies which have no greater aspiration than to distract children for 90 minutes. I hope The LEGO Batman Movie is not one of those, but I guess I'll have to see it to find out. And no, it doesn't have to be deep or meaningful; funny and entertaining works, too. There's a whole lot of options between "mindless childish pap" and Schindler's List.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Didn't get you.. How was the 3D? Is it worth watching in IMAX?

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

I guess I'm saying I was hoping it would be as impactful as Schindlers list if you found The Lego Movie to be that impactful? I don't know you, I don't know on what level of emotion and depth The Lego Movie hit you? Sounds like it hit pretty deep though bro, so yeah if that's the case for you than dang Lego Batman missed the mark, it could have done more.

As for me as I clearly stated Lego Batman just isn't as memorable of a movie as Lego movie. And yeah from that stand point I was disappointed with Lego Batman, as I gather most people still on IMDB boards will be. But maybe you know a lot of ten year olds hanging around the Imdb boards? If so then praise allah they SHUT IT DOWN! SHUT IT DOWN FOREVER!

And I wouldn't say Lego Batman rap is a great tune. It's a fine dumb gag in the movie, but I bet you couldn't hum one verse of it without seeing it again. Or quote one line from it. It teetered on the line of embarrassing.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

And by F-20-2017 You'll be gone! HOORAY:-DDD

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

The first flop of 2017? Nope! "The Comedian" beat "Batman" to the punch on that one.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

I don't think it will be a flop.

It's cold outside in most of the US.

We're tired of the mind-numbing political discourse unfolding before our eyes on TV.

There are no major sporting events going on this weekend.

Therefore, people are going to escape to the movies this weekend.

Lego Batman is the only new kids' movie out this weekend.

People will watch it....lots.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Well considering it won the box office this past weekend, then obviously it's not going to be a flop. And it's also received positive critical feedback too so overall it'll be good. Of course nothing wrong with not liking it as much as expected but it will definitely do well since it's a Lego and Batman movie...kids and adults can enjoy it. I actually am interested to see it since I loved the Lego Movie.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

It is tracking to maybe get over $200 million.

It's that man again!!

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?

Threads like these is why the Imdb boards needed to burn... Great film btw. but who expected otherwise.

Re: Is this the first movie flop of 2017?
