Re: Any men watching?
Of course. I've always been fascinated by England & Europe during the Napoleonic period and that's the main reason I tuned in.
I found it a bit odd, though, that nobody in the show has, so far, even mentioned Napoleon. It's 1814; he has just fallen from power (exiled to Elba); the political/economic order of Europe is at that very moment being changed in monumental, fundamental ways; Napoleon is the most famous person in the entire world (has been for more than a decade) You'd think he'd come up in conversation at least once or twice.
(NOTE: I have not yet seen Episode 2.)

Re: Any men watching?
Actually, the first line in the first scene after the credits of the first episode is "took the cursed Bonaparte and threw a rope around his neck" as lyrics to a chant some children and a man -if i'm not mistaken- are singing. And I remember this cause I had no idea in which historical period the series is set so it served as a guide. Apart from that I'd say that yes, it's kind of odd that there's no other mention.

Was pleased to see that in Episode 3 the French emperor finally got name-checked in a major way (the theater scene).

Re: Any men watching?
Of those voting on IMDB, 10,000 were men and 2,100 were women. Their voting patterns are the same. Are the men hormonal too.
I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

Re: Any men watching?
I was told this was the new season of Peaky Blinders. Guess I'll ride it out now.
Re: Any men watching?
I am a guy and I like it. Love period stuff like this i.e. Black Sails, Peaky Blinders etc. This is well written and keeps your attention.
Re: Any men watching?
Your question leaves me in a quandary. I started watching for Tom Hardy but the time period is fascinating and I like horror, as well. However, your use of the word hormonal suggests that all this is due to my hormonal levels so on that account I have to conclude, yes, it is unfair as other factors outweigh my attraction to the work of the lead actor.
Re: Any men watching?
Nope. Every single person that watches this show is a woman.
Re: Any men watching?
Even the men!
Re: Any men watching?
A man here, if that matters that is.
Re: Any men watching?
Yes. I am here.

Re: Any men watching?
Would I kick him off my tandem-bike? No.
Am I watching this series because Hardy is very *beep*
Of course not.
There's no mug pretty enough, to make me suffer through a bad show. So bully for me, because here I have a wonderful show, with a bonus of a handsome leading man.
Quality is obviously the deciding factor. Everything else is just ornamental.
(As I think it is for most people?)

Re: Any men watching?
Every single person watching this show is a hormonal woman. Absolutely.
Re: Any men watching?
Why would hormonal women watch it? It's not especially sexy and generally violent content made by men is viewed by men.
Re: Any men watching?
Just have a look at the ratings breakdown and you'll see that most likely ALOT more men than women watches this show.
4 times as many men than women have rated this show after all.
So I wouldn't say what you say is unfair, it's just inaccurate.

Re: Any men watching?
Not so much unfair as unfounded Yes I am female and am sure I have some hormones about my person (as do all men!) but this show does not seem designed to appeal to a female audience at all. Far from it, the only two female characters are so far just there to be *beep* in one way or another, so no-one to identify with by conventional wisdom. Unless you, like me, are one of the millions of women who can watch a TV show (movie/read a book, etc) and identify with all sorts of characters and enjoy a good story because first and foremost we are human beings.
I've noticed that is something SOME men are incapable of doing. Unless there is a character that very much fits the bill of how they see themselves, then they can't enjoy a story. Unless there is some actress/model they imagine having sex with, of course. "Hormonal Men", I guess. Perhaps it's a lower capacity for empathy?
Anyhow, lots of regular men watching and plenty of women too, and don't assume it's because we "fancy" Tom Hardy, or whoever. Maybe we got drawn in by the name Ridley Scott or the incredible sets/costume/look of this show which is blood and guts grungy yet beautiful at the same time. Perhaps we have an interest in the time period or the supernatural overtones, etc, etc and, perhaps, like me, a part of that audience is starting to wonder if it doesn't need to kick up a gear as there is a whiff or style over substance starting to hang over it. But such a great start, I know I will hang in there.
