Re: How it feels getting slagged off
spoilers for the movie!!!!!
I wouldnt call myself a fan but i saw it at frightfest and i enjoyed it fine, enough to get the dvd. Parts of it just screamed "Saw" to me but i don;t know if that was coincidence or if you had the idea before the saw writers. Anyway nicely done film. i can handly any gore and blood but i just can't handle anything involvin broken bones ( gets me squirming) and can i just say great ending, though completely unfair you cruel b***ard! I mean that as a compliment.

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
just be happy in the fact that you've made a film that people out there have enjoyed just like i'm sure you guys have enjoyed many cult films before, your contributing to the extreme horror genre and doing something you love and that others love. it's only natural that there will be quite a few who aren't into this because of the type of film it is for a start. you can't please everyone so don't bother trying :)
glad that it's british too

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
The gore effects were very good. But I personally felt that there was so little character and story to it that when people died it didn't matter. I just felt that the gore and horror parts of it fell flat because the character and script didn't marry up.
I have to say thought, the intestines at the begin was something I dont think ive seen before. Very disgusting!!

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
First off, anyone that compares this movie to Saw is just not getting it and you shouldn't listen to anything they say.
As for people saying that the movie had no plotare they retarded? That's just a ridiculous comment.
I'm telling you man, some people just don't get certain psychological thrillers unless there is a freak with knives for fingers or chainsaw wielding madman in a spooky mask that interupts young naked people having sex to kill them.

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
was that really you that made this movie brandamasonltd. wat was the budget
Re: How it feels getting slagged off
i absolutly loved the movie it had me numb from start to end
Re: How it feels getting slagged off
brandmasonltd as a fan of horror films I thought this was a good film and the storyline was original unlike a lot of movies that are being churned out today. I was hoping there was a twist in the end and I wasn't disappointed. The "psycho" made sure that even if she got away and found her daughter she would pay the price - and she certainly did. The only thing that I would have liked to have seen would have been a flashback to how he managed to abduct her in the first place. From what you are saying on the production level I think the outcome was great and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
Re: How it feels getting slagged off
The movie was amazing, if not hard to watch. enjoyed it the entire way too. It didnt seem at all like a low budget movie, so your work paid off. The ending really hit hard since i was rooting for Hope the entire time. Can you give a girl a break!! just kidding but yea, kick-ass film.
I'm Cherry. Yes you are.

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
Hey guys! I don't care what the naysayers say, you guys did a great job. I loved it. I really did. I think you told your story simply and to the point. There wasn't anything romanticized about this film. There wasn't any boring 'filler' or misplaced dialogue.
It was raw and brutal and gutzy. That you actually had a character doing wrong to a little girl, takes a lot of nerve.
Don't be distraught . Go ahead and be proud of a job well done.
I will recommend to others. Good luck

And say his prayers by night"

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
If this really is youhere's my two penneth:
Firstly, well done for getting it made, it's hard damn work this industry. Technically some of your flick looked good for the dough. The special fx appeared realistic and I really could care less about realistic situations in allegorical horror flicks. I mean, who cares if the razor blade part is possible; it's a dopey horror flick.
My problems with the film are more with it's supposed intelligence. There simply is none. The un-subtle, ridiculous pseudo-feminist subtext on the supposedly inhumane aspects of male enforced female domesticity was nothing more than hilarious sub-student bollocks. A woman literally chained to the pots and pans and the groceries? Give me a break.
Is this paper thin cliche all you had to drape 90 minutes of dull human misery over? Or was it just to garner a bit of notice for the great fx and your filmaking technique?
If so, then fairplay, all publicity is good publicity. But if you meant it, then sorry, no dice. If you're gonna abuse people on screen like that at least have the intelligence to underline it with some sort of purpose. It can be done; Irreversible, Audition, Blue Velvet, Straw Dogsare a few examples of films that have been wildly misunderstood and wrongfully condemned on their release only to later become re-appraised as complex treatise on the darker aspects of human nature. Sadly, I don't think Broken's awfully amateur abusive relationship allegory is heading for the same kind of revisionist regard beyond the Thick+ alt.metal crowd. It was like the climax to a bad domestic violence arc from Eastenders re-located to a roadside lay-by.
With no smarts behind the snuff you simply feed fuel to your detractors.
Anyway, good luck with your next project. You've clearly got some technical ability.

^^ Pretentious tripe masquerading as intelligent analysis. But arguably worth two pennutharguably.
I tried to contain myself but I escaped.

Thanks.
Please can you give examples of the pretentiousness that you mention.
Hopefully I can learn from you and not repeat the same mistakes.

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
Boy if you think you got slagged off I'm sure gladthe main actress isnt here. Maybe you should have made a less ambitious movie if you didnt have the cash? But regarless, some of the chjoices made in terms of the whining and screaming are jut incomprehensible..I still do wish you the best of luck in the future, but it helps to learn form mistakes and understand why poepel didn't liek somehting in order to grow as an artist.

Well, I thought it was pretty decent.
What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Re: How it feels getting slagged off
I think Broken is a very well made film. Nice photography, editing, SFX etc!
My only real objections would be Mason being dimissive of the alegations of the film being torture porn. It is torture porn horror! I don't see why he gets so irate when people say that.
