Snow Cake : Brilliant, brilliant movie…but just one little thing wasn't right…

Brilliant, brilliant movie…but just one little thing wasn't right…

When Weaver's character starts dancing during the Wake, she starts daydreaming about her daughter dancing with her. Meant to be a touching moment where she shows that she is capable of missing someone. Now, it could have worked if the director didn't use that cheesey green-screen composited background of a snowy forest that sorta clumsily rotates as the scene rolls on. To me it really took away from the scene.

Re: Brilliant, brilliant movie…but just one little thing wasn't right…

Yes! My thoughts exactly!
I immediately looked up how old the movie was because the graphics were just so cheap, it looked like it was made in the 90's. Unless there's a symbolic meaning behind that background (other than just being snowy) it really was a wrong thing to do.

I agree that it does take you out of the action a little bit, but I believe the intention was to show us that we're now in Linda's mind. Linda, being autistic, would have sort of a crude construct like the snowy forest, instead of a nice, realistic piece, you know?

That's what I always thought, anyway.

Re: Brilliant, brilliant movie…but just one little thing wasn't right…

i agree with the posters saying that linda's vision is meant to be simplistic, but i have to say that i didn't like the scene either. it didn't work for me as a way of making linda more "human" or whatever it is that it was trying to achieve.

Re: Brilliant, brilliant movie…but just one little thing wasn't right…

To those who found the snow effects artificial, remember that Linda has a collection of snow globes that Alex was manipulating early on, which i think the director was trying to reflect back upon in that scene;
and I do agree with those that think the artificiality of the effects are deliberate to suggest Linda's mind or her enjoyment of the globes and sparklies.
