Snow Cake : How did this film not get….
Re: How did this film not get….
i totally agree!! but my faith in the academy has been steadly dwindeling since the fiasco of 97. i also think the reason snow cake didnt get any nods was because of its virtualy nonexistant release in the us

I am so mad at the Oscar people. They should've given it a chance! Snow Cake is the best movie I've ever seen! And it's great cos it's not all about special effects or big waste of money.

CGI is the bane of my existance.
it removes emotion.
we've all seen cartoons get hurt/killed
did we feel anything?

Re: How did this film not get….
I don't really have anything against CGI if it is used to enhance the film [ie, Lord of the Rings], but when it's used as a crutch [ie, The Day After Tomorrow], that's when I dislike it. I just thought this was an incredible film and it's a pity it didn't get more recognition.
If I thought you weren't my friendI just don't think I could bear it.

Re: How did this film not get….
Me neither. I also was just saying that if the whole movie and it's possible success is based on CGI the film might be pointless. It is a very different thing to have a great movie with extraordinary effects, than a real bad film(&script) that's full of CGI..Snow Cake, on the other hand, was a great movie without notable effects

Re: How did this film not get….
I think you should do what I do, which is assume that the Oscars are pretty much meaningless. To a great extent the same can be said about general popularity as well for example,I'd never heard of this fine film until a week ago, even though it has two big names in it.
Re: How did this film not get….
Snowcake is a Canadian/UK co-production and there is generally little money leftover for promotion of Canadian films in the U.S. It was in the theatres across Canada, and the UK, but only had limited release in the U.S. in spring of 2007. If you look back to the comments in this Board in 2007 you'll see more info.
I'm glad to see people are still noticing this gem - it's on TV this evening in Canada and even though I'm watching it for about the fourth time, it's still entertaining. And I'm really appreciating the work of the cinematographer.

Re: How did this film not get….
I agree 100% I could easily have seen four Oscar nominations, minimum. I hope the filmmakers made their money back, everyone got paid decently, and above all, that they enjoyed making the film as much as I can imagine they would have. It was so deep and beautiful I can't stop thinking about it!
Re: How did this film not get….
I was disappointed. Why all that detail about Alex's backstory when it added nothing to the movie? Weaver was good, though, in an incomplete-feeling film.

Re: How did this film not get….
Really you don't see connections between Alex' past and current lifes? I really advice to watch Snow Cake again. Or perhaps that movie is not for you.
