Re: how many of you…
I would. I loved it from the moment I read it's name and cast and I love it now.
Don't know anything about authism, but S. Weaver seemed convising to me, not like she was "acting". And interseting thing with A in Angela.

Re: how many of you…
"it has everything: great writing, acting, direction, even the soundtrack is awesome. its never slow or boring, you just want the movie to keep going and show more of these peoples lives."
Exactly! That was the thing on my mind when I saw the movie becoming to its end. I would've wanted to observe their lives just a little bit more It's not like the ending was not complete, it was, perfectamundo! They kind of left it there, so the audience could decide theirselves. I like those kind of movies. I would give it 10 out of 10. Totally. One of my favourite movies for sure.
And I'm not even mentioning Sigourney. I mean how can she possibly get better and better in each movie she's in? She just pulled the role off succesfully. It was like I could feel the things she felt, especially with the 'sparklies', she expressed the feelings as she truly felt them herself. It was funny to see her playing a very serious role, but still there was this note; she can be laughed at. In a good way. The movie is so lovable cos it has no ego, neither has Sigourney.
Alan Rickman is the other thing to make this movie even better. The two of those, great actors, should be working more together. They showed that Galaxy Quest can be a movie not to be taken too seriously, but still not as one star garbage movie.
They've both succesfully kept their roles great during all these years. Not even the age slows them down. I have a huge respect for them both.
Sorry for my English, I just had to let it out.

Re: how many of you…
I actually only gave this movie an 8 but that's still really good, of course if I happen to see it again it could move up of course it could also move down. It was great but maybe mainly because I wasn't expecting anything really good. I loved the location and the chemistry of the actors but I wouldn't call this movie buy worth just yet so therefore it doesn't make it to 9 or 10 stars but still a big recommedation to everyone I know.

I'd rate it a 10/10 for sure.
It seems to have everything that a movie thats rated that high should have, including the fact that people can watch it over and over without getting bored.

Yes, that is so true. I watched it like four times last week, first I was afraid that I'd spoil the whole thing by watching it again and again. But this is not that kind of movie.
My little sister and I were watching this the other day (w/o the subtitles), she's really impatient and not that good at understanding English, so she got tired of the relationship progress between Alex and Maggie. She kept saying "skip this!" and I desperately tried to make her understand that it was a part of the movie, and not that annoying at all. The acquiantances in this movie are important in my opinion, but she's only 13 so I guess you can't expect her to get it.

Re: how many of you…
Haha, I'm english and I watch movies with English subtitles. Makes things go smoother that way.
I think it all depends on the person weather or not they will be interested in a film like this. I'm only 15, and I can watch this and be completly into it. But then again, maybe when I was 13 I would have rathered a bix office hit that I knew about over something something a bit more obscure that made you think and trying to get the meaning a bit more than the norm.

Re: how many of you…
Yes, that's true. I'm 16 myself so I maybe it's not my business to rank my sister by her age :) But as a teenager a couple of years matters sometimes.
I'm not saying that this isn't the kind of movie for younger people to watch; maybe the storyline of Maggie and Alex is a thing not to understand for them, but then again there are just so wonderful performances of extraordinary actors that even a child can feel like liking this movie.
And it's just that you can't even blink in case of missing something amazingly clever, hilarious and well-acted.

Re: how many of you…
You have a good point, a couple years can make the difference between really getting something out of it, and just really liking it for its amazing acting.
I absolutly agree about not being able to blink. Even something as simple as someone asking me a question made me miss an important piece of dialogue, and I had to rewinde.

I'm still wondering weather it would be fair to make my boyfriend watch it, it doesn't seem like his type of movie.

Re: how many of you…
My boyfriend isn't at all. I actually don't think he likes watching movies much, he's more of an outdoor person, and I'm more of a music and movie person.
Right after I wrote that though, I made him come watch it with me. He wasn't too interested in it.
My best guy friend loves indie movies though, he's the one that got me to watch this the first time. We have indie movie fests sometimes when we have some time where we aren't doing a band practise (he's in a band with me aswell)
Its always good to have a couple friends who are up for watching a good film

Re: how many of you…
I wish I had those kind of friend groups too! My best friend is into way different movies than I am, I like indie movies and everything without that much Hollywood or horror in it, but she likes to watch those horrifying movies like Grudge and Friday the 13th And the one with the chainsaw.. I'm not much into teenage horror myself :) But she's not all that bad. We went to see Juno together and she at least pretended to like it :)
I recommended Snow Cake to my mother, she hasn't watched it yet I guess (well she hasn't talked about it and I don't know if she's watched it and whether it's a good thing or not) But I guess she'd like it cos she hates horror and screams everytime a bumblebee dies..And she would watch a movie 3 hours long if it had no violence in it and it was about a deep thought subject, heh. But my dad would kinda throw it into a rubbish bin. Even though I could try to mention something about Sigourney Weaver
I hate people who promise to watch a film that I'm very very into, and who can see that it's obviously important for me to have them watch it, but as the movie begins after a while they pay almost no attention..

yah its just horrible when you know your favorite part is coming up and you glance over to see their reaction and all you get is a glazed over look or figeting

Mmmm, I've been there.
Or, they start talking and you have to be like "No! You can't miss this part!"
I'm like you guys, I'm not so much into the Hollywood films ever since I've got turned onto the Indie ones. Although, I can't say I don't enjoy a good romance or horror movie every once in a while.
Its always good to have someone who can appreciat a good movie, and then a group how can go have fun at the theater aswell.

Re: how many of you…
Yes, of course. I did enjoy The Shining but it is a classic. I guess that my mother has influenced me with her rather sissy kind of movie taste. I would never even touch a movie like Saw or Silent Hill cos they just horrify me too much..:S
But then again everything with Sigourney is just right for me, heh.. I guess I'm going to have to put up with the Hollywood stuff :)

Re: how many of you…
I've seen The Shining. Most King movies are pretty good.
I really like horror movies, and have seen Saw. But really, its all just pointless gore. A good suspenseful movie that makes you think is better in my opionion.

Re: how many of you…
2 of the movies on my top ten are horror movies. one would be classified as a "make you think" and the other a "pointless gore". Silecne of the Lambs is and will always be my #1 and grindhouse is my #9. so yah i love gore. but i also love a great human drama. something that gives you back a piece of your humanity. i think its because A: im human , and B: i love the theatre, theatre is all about affecting the audiance. if it doesn't affect me i dont like it or remember it

Re: how many of you…
I have to admit actually enjoying some of the horror movies I've seen, cannot name any, but there have been couple worth of watching. I prefer the makes you think sort of films, like mentally scary ones. The one with Michelle Pfeiffer, what was it called? I liked it.
But the most I love non horror movies that make you think, like White Oleander or Mystic River. But also those human dramas like Love, actually with Alan Rickman ( !!) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Goldfish Memory are great to have in your dvd shelf..

Re: how many of you…
I can assure you that "The Shining" is far more horrifying than "Saw" or "Silent Hill" could ever be. It's simply the best horror movie ever made.
I enjoyed "Snow Cake" very much by the way. 8/10

I rate it an 8.
It has great balance, brilliant performances, & sticks to its script (i.e. doesn't wander from its premise).
I guess I could've laughed & cried more to have a more impactful viewing. It's still a great movie.
