Ip Man 2 : This movie make martial arts look useless

This movie make martial arts look useless

I mean, in the first movie, Ip defeated the Japanese guy without receiving a scratch, he can also defeat 10 guys without dropping a sweat. But against a boxer, he received a beating like he never had before. Besides, he is fast enough to avoid swords when fighting other martial artists, but he could not avoid this guy punches? Even if the punches were far harder than a martial artist hit, the boxer should not been able to score a single punch if Ip abilities had been kept consistent.

Re: This movie make martial arts look useless

A main action performer beating the crap out of co-players unscratched is a common feat in martial arts films so it's up to you to either accept it or not.

However, the difference between the Japanese fighters and Twister is the overall body condition, strength/power, knowledge in combat and adaptability in all fighting circumstances they possess. The Japanese were combatants but they were vulnerable and lacked power compared to Twister who was trained to demolish and take hits from opponents, which is a huge advantage for pro fighters. Plus Yip Man had no knowledge in western combat/martial arts and wasn't used to competition fighting scenarios so he couldn't adapt to Twister's attacks in the beginning.

There's also two big handicaps. The boxer appeared to have a major reach advantage, and they wouldn't allow Ip to kick. As it was I couldn't understand how they basically allowed the boxer to beat the other master to death or allow Ip to keep beating the boxer once he was down. I wonder how the real fight played out?

Getting back to the original point though. Basically having western style boxing square off against martial arts would probably go to the martial arts because there's just so many more ways to attack than straight up boxing. I remember seeing an old clip back in the 80's maybe where Mohammad Aliee was watching pro wrestling. He wanted to show the wrestler what a real fight was like so the wrestler invited him to the ring. Aliee is tall, but this guy was taller and had maybe 50 to 100 pounds on him. Aliee took a couple light jabs at him then (Not sure but I think he was Man Mountian Mike) grabbed Alie's arm and loaded him over his shoulders and started to do a spin into a body slam. So bod with Allie jumped into the ring and stopped him before he did the body slam. Later Aliee admitted he really underestimated wrestlers and made a mistake trying to show him up. Like I said.Boxing is too limited to stand up against a lot of other forms of fighting (Yes pro wrestling isn't real fighting, but still the moves are generally much different from boxing)

You do realize these movies are based on real events, right?

Every person that served can be called a veteran, but not every veteran can be called a Marine.

Re: This movie make martial arts look useless

Do you really think half of what happened in those movies happened?

Re: This movie make martial arts look useless

You know what is interesting, online video games are competitive just like any sport. I could dominate a lot of people and they would all say how I am the best. Then I go up against some unknown guy and I cannot even touch him despite the fact I could dominate so many people without breaking a sweat. Actually the same applies when I used to play basketball in real life. I could hit 3 pointers and dunk the ball but when up against someone with quick hands who can slap the ball out every time I pull up to shoot that messes up my shot. So I believe it is possible.
