Seed : Did I miss something?
Re: Did I miss something?
Maybe you haven't seen enough of his "films" yet. Postal was the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Alone in the Dark was better, but that's like saying getting sh** on by a bird is better than getting sh** on by an elephant. In the Name of the King was an atrocious Lord of the Rings knockoff with turtle-orc-things. He is the most incompetent, inept "film maker" I have ever witnessed.
Re: Did I miss something?
Postal was great :D I enjoyed it more than any of his other older movies and my friends though that it was his best movie also compared to the older. Now he got more good movies in his pocket :)
Re: Did I miss something?
Reason people hate this film is cause its utterly disgusting, starving a baby, live footage of tortured animals, a psycho who kills anyone and anything for whatever reason we have no idea.
Ive seen alot of horror movies and shows man ever since I was a kid till now. Suspira, Exorcist 1, and 3, Hostel, Silance of the Lambs, Red Dragon, Hannibal, Zombie, Video Drone (also kinda over the top gross), The Fly, All the Halloweens, Most of the Hellraisers, All the Chuckys, Freddy and Jason movies. Ive seen it all but this is just another crappy movie in a long line of crappy movies. No substance, all character development, all good acting, any good diologue is totally sacrificed for gore, and in this case its just to gorey, Why is it so offensive to me? I guess cause im not a fan of seeing a kid or dog or any animal starve. Even Clive Barker is not as sick as to do this stuff to animals or dogs in his books or movies that ive ever heard of. But this guy who made Seed he just pours on the senseless pointless violence disgusting violence, violence that really is just disgusting to anyone or everyone, thats why even people like me hate this film and think it should be thrown away. The guy who made it must be totally sick in the head, and poeple who like it i dont see why they like it but whatever its your dime.

Re: Did I miss something?
Even Jigsaw is not as ruthless and disgusting as this guy, he hasnt killed any innocent kids or animals that i know about. Thats the point, i guess innocent kids, innocent animals, innocent kids, wholesale torture for no reason..there is just something about that is totally wrong for any audience even the lovers of horror. Peta was stupid to back this film with those films.if they wanna show poeple about what happens to animals they could do it in a more tasteful waythat stuff has the quality of concentration camp footage its just disgusting.
Re: Did I miss something?
The whole point of the PETA footage is to bring animal cruelty to peoples attention. How could it be "more tasteful"? It's CRUELTY!
Ghod, people act like Boll himself was responsible for it. Not to mention the fact he apparently starved a baby and a dog and filmed them decomposing. Hasn't anyone on here ever heard of special effects?
A guy who kills and tortures anyone without reason, well that's just realistic isn't it? Real-life serial killers and psychos are plain evil, not charming or charismatic.
Tiny penis, tiny mind.

Re: Did I miss something?
I dunno, at least Uwe Boll is trying to push boundaries and that has to count for something. If you're into horror movies you can't fail to notice that so many of them play nice and safe; gory deaths are the payoff but are always presented in a fun or entertainingly grisly fashion. It's always unlikeable teenagers or minor adult background characters who die and most audiences don't feel any sympathy. So these films don't really 'horrify' at all. But in the real world violence gets dealt out to all and sundry, including children and animals. Films don't generally show that, because it would be too controversial, and on the rare occasion that they do it is usually far more subdued and less explicit than normal. *spoiler* I remember somone complaining that the death of the young boy in 'Switchblade Romance' was unnecessary, presumably because it was the only death that provoked a proper reaction. People tend to forget that horror movies are supposed, in theory, to upset and disturb. When they do, suddenly it's gone too far and needs to be suppressed.
It's the same with people criticising PETA for supplying the footage of animal cruelty. I mean, you can attack Uwe Boll for deciding to put stuff like that in the movie when it serves no real artistic purpose and is clealy there for shock value (although, again, it is a horror film), but PETA has valid reasons for getting the footage out there. Its deeply unpleasant, but it raises the issue in a way that lecturing people doesn't. If you were disgusted by it, good. You have a soul. Be pleased!
Still a crap movie though. My god, what a terrible piece of cinema.

Re: Did I miss something?
Try typing "Ted Bundy" into Google, watch a few videos of him, and tell me the guy isn't one of the most charming people you've ever heard speak. SOME real life killers aren't charming or charismatic, but for every Richard Trenton Chase, there's a Theodore Robert Bundy whose main method is to charm women into going with him, only to kill and rape them. Even Gacy's neighbours loved him because he used to throw street parties and would entertain the local kids by dressing as a clown. Thinking that being charming and charismatic instantly rules you out from being a serial killer is like saying fraud is never committed by Chinese people - Ridiculous. Oh, and in case that final quote isn't a signature, but is suggesting killers have small penises and minds - Ted Bundy's IQ was measured as 124 in prison, but most experts agree he deliberately tried to get a low score, as he liked to play games with the psychologists investigating him, so believe his actual IQ was likely 140+, and Ed Kemper had a tested IQ of 136. Now, I know those aren't massive scores - far from "genius" level, but I certainly wouldn't say these guys had small minds. And it's common knowledge Bundy was a Ladies Man. Hell, they even called him the Lady Killer. Please refrain from using such sweeping generalisations (you wouldn't say every black guy who goes in McDonalds is ordering chicken McNuggets, would you?).
Real-life serial killers and psychos are plain evil, not charming or charismatic.
Re: Did I miss something?
Hm. I'm still a bit confused. I've read all of your responses and still don't get why he's hated. He himself did not actually starve the baby, girl, or other creatures. That's against the law. Either they were special effects as the other user stated, or the animals were actually dead due to natural causes and he filmed it (which I doubt). Also, I thought this was based on a true story, so be angry at the serial killer not the director. I found it to be the scariest movie I've seen because it's true and happened and most likely can happen again.
Re: Did I miss something?
Erm, this isn't based on a true story. What made you think that?

Re: Did I miss something?
i think what he did "Wrong" was destroy peoples hopes. see, he set himself up for failure. He was bad to mediocre director at best, and if he had stayed with movies like Seed he would have been fine. but he had to make videogame movies. and that carries a different weight. see, gamers expect a faithful portrayal of their games as much as book readers like a faithful portrayal of books when you make a movie. except videogame format does not really work for a movie (go watch a "lets play" to see what direct translation would look like). so Boll changed things. A LOT of things. this of course got the target audience - fans of that game - mad at him. and then he did it again, and again, and again, and again. this pretty much set his reputation of "That guy that makes *beep* movie and slaps a vidoegame name on it" and that doesnt really fly that well.
