Classic TV: The 80s : The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy

Probably one of the greatest shows of all time

Re: The Fall Guy

It's definitely one of the best shows of the '80's.I just wish someone would get the rest of the series on dvd. It's been a long time since the 1st season was released.

Re: The Fall Guy

I still sing the theme song weekly. "Well I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, but I've been seen with Farah..."

He does a much better job than Mr. Norris at singing the theme song (Sorry Chuck, I still luv ya though)

Re: The Fall Guy

I agree. I also like the song from the pilot episode, where he mentions Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd, my two favorite characters from "Charlie's Angels.

Re: The Fall Guy

i have fond memories of wathcing the Fall Guy with my Dad, it was a cool show for sons and fathers I think. It is one of the greatest shows ever, I used to really like CHIPS also.

Re: The Fall Guy

I don't know if it was one of the greatest shows of all time, but I think it was definitely underrated and I think out of all his shows, this was the show that Lee Majors seemed to have the most fun doing...he really appeared to be having a ball doing this show!

Re: The Fall Guy

Five posts on the topic and no one has mentioned Heather Thomas yet? Unbelievable.

I don't have an opinion. The word "opinion" implies the possibility I'm wrong.

Re: The Fall Guy

I agree. Heather is the hottest 80's chick.

I was Born To Be Alive

Re: The Fall Guy

I'll agree too. It's just a shame her career didn't really go anywhere after "The Fall Guy" ended. She really was a great actress too.

Re: The Fall Guy

I was suprised Heather Thomas didn't go anywhere carrer wise. Heather Locklear was a guest star on the fall guy. Yes as far as entertainment value the show was one of the best. not one of the best all time. don't get me wrong I have the season 1 dvd set and am one of the biggest Lee Majors fans SMDM, etc.

Re: The Fall Guy

I loved watching this show back in the Eighties, but The Fall Guy is synonymous with using stock footage from motion pictures in my memory now. I clearly remember one episode where they cut Lee Majors into the skateboard chase from Back to the Future (substituting him for all of Michael J. Fox's close-ups). But I can't find proof of that on the internet anywhere. Did I dream it?

"I think that Amish Robot was drunk"

Re: The Fall Guy

In another episode they re-used the entire bi-plane vs helicopters chase scene from Capricorn One.You have to admire the producer's cost-cutting.

Re: The Fall Guy

Don't forget Markie Post, either!

Yeah, for most of the series, she's covered up in business or casual attire, but watch Season 3 Episode 8 (Inside, Outside) and you'll never ever forget Markie Post was on the Fall Guy!!

(She gets kidnapped from the beach, and for almost the entire episode, she's wearing only a tight bikini!! It really opened my eyes!!)

Re: The Fall Guy

Loved this show. Yeah, Heather was freakin' hot.

Re: The Fall Guy

Yep great show, I loved Colt's truck.

Re: The Fall Guy

I've been checking out eBay for years to find one in mint condition but haven't had any luck.

Re: The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy definitely had one of the catchiest theme songs of all time. I can still sing it now. And I have a friend at work who I call "Howie Munson" because no matter what subject we talk about, he knows all about it and always quotes a different university:

"Back when I was at Penn St., I majored in auto-mechanics." Howie must have attended every school in the US.

Re: The Fall Guy

My late husband once told me that house was somewhere in the Hollywood Hills with the tub out in the yard. He grew up in Hollywood and knew a lot of trivia.

Re: The Fall Guy

I am happy that Majors did it. It gives it charm.

Re: The Fall Guy

I Think the fall guy was the only show that made it and had the lead actor singing the opening credits theme song. As far as a tv series that made it (not cancelled early) it has to be the only one. I like Gideonj34 saying they liked the theme song but 'I'm not sure if it was such a good idea to have Majors sing it.' Majors did do singing in the six million dollar man - bionic woman episode, it was rather bad - and that's coming from a big fan.

Re: The Fall Guy

Dennis Waterman ring any bells?

Re: The Fall Guy

No

Who needs saints when you know me

Re: The Fall Guy

Most Americans are unfamiliar with New Tricks, a British cop show, which plays on some PBS stations.

Re: The Fall Guy

Are you saying the 6 Million Dollar man was not talented enough to sing that song?

Re: The Fall Guy

Who do you think should have been singing it? Tom Selleck?

Re: The Fall Guy

I am a big Lee Majors fan and really liked the show in the 80's. made a point to see it every week and of course heather thomas was very good looking. heather locklear was better looking in my opinion and i remember she was in a Fall Guy episode. That truck must of had the best suspension of any made : with all the jump and abuse it took. great show, great actor - Lee Majors.

Re: The Fall Guy

I was about 13 at the time, and Lee Majors was the first TV star I had a crush on... Oh how I waited every week for a new crazy adventure to begin!!

Let's be realists, let's demand the impossible.

Re: The Fall Guy

It was a pretty awesome show.

It feels better when you've won

Re: The Fall Guy

I watched the season 1 dvd set and man did it go fast. The show has very good entertainment value. Heather Thomas coming through the saloon style doors in the blue bikini (small and revealing) is a highlight they show. But if you watch the show it didn't get popular from Heather Thomas wearing skimpy outfits:she was a regular stunt man throughout the show. Yes, Lee Majors had a ball doing the show. It was a top show of the 80s just like the Six million dollar man was a top show of the 70s. funny thing about the pitch --- the theme song was made before the show ever was thought of. Glen Larson (battlestar galactica producer and writer) had a friend in a band and he wrote the song 'The Unknown Stuntman' - not commissioned by Larson -- but Larson got the idea for the show 'The Fall Guy' from the song. Larson had his friend 'Pitch' the show by playing the theme song -- and with Larson being a big TV show success they bought into the idea, also Larson wanted to add the "bounty Hunter' aspect into the show. Man they hit the nail on the head and it was a huge success.

Re: The Fall Guy

I'm a big Lee Majors fan also and started out loving the show... but as the season's progressed I thought it lost its magic. What I did get a kick out of was that Lee Major played a stunt man and it was so painfully obvious that a stunt man was used every time Majors was required to do anything remotely difficult. Oh well...

I also didn't think Lee Majors was playing Colt Seavers in this show... it was more like Lee Majors was playing himself... but just gave himself a name change. I agree he probably had a blast doing the show.

Majors best acting came in the Big Valley. He was too subdued in the Six Million Dollar Man... and he wasn't acting in the Fall Guy.

Re: The Fall Guy

Or his acting was so good that it exceeded his talent and it looked as if he was playing Lee Majors.

Yeah, that's right

Re: The Fall Guy

I love this show. Its probably in my top 10 favorite shows of all time.

I'm glad to see that it still has so many fans.

Re: The Fall Guy

You'd think TV Land would play it or at least a local tv station. Miss that show.

Re: The Fall Guy

Who had the computer game back then,I had it for the Spectrum 48k,great stuff

Re: The Fall Guy

Underrated series.

Re: The Fall Guy

Totally agree. You'd think when they came out with the dvd four seasons one and two, they would've used the original music they played on the episodes. I understand there are royalty issues and all that but not to play it as it was when originally aired is a real let down.

Re: The Fall Guy

It's odd seeing Lee Majors in such a different role from Steve Austin but it works really well. It's a fun show. It does kinda feel like Magnum PI but without ever being serious. It's available on Amazon Prime but only the first two seasons. I would like to see the whole series.
