Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath : What do you think of Leah Remini????

What do you think of Leah Remini????

Hello everyone. I've been enjoying this program. I must confess, prior to this show, I had heard of Remini but was in no way a fan or even aware of her work (I have never watched "The King of Queens"- not even once). I guess she did some movies too, but once again, I was oblivious. So, I started this program with a completely open mind concerning Leah Remini. From what Ive seen so far, I really like her. The Brooklyn accent will get on your nerves at times but she cant help that. I find her very poised. Completely believing in her current cause. Absolutely sincere.

I also think she looks great. Obviously she has the advantage of money and assistants to make her look good but I think there is enough there that shed be attractive even if she didn't have 10 cents. Quite unusual for a 46 year old. So all good with Leah.

Having said that - does anything about her bother me? Yes. Just one thing so far. I dont care for the dirty mouth. Its very unladylike and very unattractive. My sudden interest in Leah inspired me to watch an old "Fat Actress" episode that she was in. This was a show from 2005 done by Kirstie Alley. Ive got it on SHowtime On Demand. Anyway, Leah is in one of the episodes. At one point she talks for about two minutes uninteruppted. She says the F word about 15 times during those couple of minutes. I'm pretty sure "Fat Actress" was semi unscripted just like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" so these may have been her own words. Very disconcerting.

So, yeah Leah, if you see this - please clean up the dirty mouth. Ok, nuff said - I'm curious as to what other people think

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I'm in general agreement (your post would be easier to read broken into several paragraphs). I think her former co-star Kevin James said it best in describing her as "having the mouth of a construction worker in the body of a model." I find her routine use of foul language detracts from her appeal.

As to the show, I enjoy it. It's amazing so many people can be duped out of so much money and put up with so much abuse. I also believe she is sincere in her beliefs. People tend not to do anything about something until it directly affects them, so she's obviously been affected by $cientology.

It's telling to me that a "religion" uses private investigators to follow people that speak out against it (two were recently "outed" during a show), holds people against their will, has a leader that beats people, and routinely administers what appear to be lie detector tests to all members (the "cans"). The latter takes place at the member's expense. IMO, it's an example of a cult. I read that $cientology now has a website to attack her:
http://www.businessinsider.com/scientology-website-leah-remini-ae-show-2016-11

I use the quotes on religion since IMO, a religion must be about a god or a supernatural being. In $cientology, man is god. I know they have a legal determination from the IRS.

Obviously she has the advantage of money and assistants to make her look good but I think there is enough there that shed be attractive even if she didn't have 10 cents. Quite unusual for a 46 year old.

She made a funny comment in one episode something like she walks around the house looking like this- wardrobe, no makeup assistants, etc.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

"The mouth of a construction worker in the body of a model." Hahahaha! Love it!

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

She swears like a sailor, but what do you want? She's a full-blooded New Yorker. I've always liked Leah the actress, just not Leah the Scientologist. I cheered when she left and I admire her courage to face the consequences of her actions from the CoS. She was willing to put up with the attacks and attempts to discredit her that come with leaving the church simply because leaving and exposing the cult that was her life for so many years was the right thing to do. Bish is fearless!

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I completely agree. I have also always been a fan of Leah and her work. She is a brave, brave woman and I applaud her. And truth be told, I have a pretty bad potty mouth myself, so I'm in no position to judge.

Now I've got a bigger problem. Tom Cruise is in my closet and he won't come out.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I think she's hilarious! I'm reading her book 'Troublemaker' and her writing makes me laugh.

As for her potty mouth, it doesn't bother me. The way she uses it on the show works for me. I squirm at the notion of "ladylike" behavior. What does that mean? I just believe in people, woman or man, being comfortable in their own skin; expressing themselves in ways that represent who they are. I don't have to agree, and it doesn't affect me.

She is someone I would want to hang out with because she has no filter and whatever comes up, comes out. I love it.

Kinda makes me wonder how she managed to stay in the church as long as she did. I can't imagine spouting off whatever comes to mind would endear you to the church elders.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Hello mydove - ladylike to me is someone that doesnt say the F word in every other sentence. Its just something I dont care for. I dont really care for it in men either, however, Im used to men swearing. Not women. My mother never swore. My Grandmothers never swore. Neither did my aunts. Judging from some of the responses of my thread - it (women who constantly swear) doesn't seem to bother most people. Guess Im just different. In any event, I appreciate your response and thank you for your opinion.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

If you have actually watched, she doesn't use the F word every other sentence as you claim. Are you an undercover clam? If you are, I suspect we will never hear from you again.

However, if you aren't

Have you ever heard of the term "Difficult times call for difficult measures"? You are rather quaint to believe that people abused for decades should stifle themselves and conceal their anger, or rage with courtly language. Leah Remini is standing up for people who have been egregiously and systematically abused over decades and her righteous anger deserves expression. How would you go about reacting to all of the horrific abuses by Scientology other than clutching your pearls? Or maybe writing some "Oh, look at those non-Christians bashing us"

It seems like of a case of needing to get over yourself and heeding to the obvious inhumane conditions that Scientology created, unless you have a different agenda, be it CoS or your own culty religious affiliation

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

To Sevino - can you read? Or are you illiterate? I claimed it was unladylike to use the F word in every other sentence, I didnt say Remini used it in every other sentence. The only egregious example I used of her excessive swearing was the episode of "Fat Actress". Otherwise I just said that she has a dirty mouth which she does. I was simply pointing out that this is an unattractive quality in an otherwise very attractive person. I was speaking only of Remini as a human being. Also and once again, if you can read which Im not so sure of, I complimented her on believing in and being absolutely sincere in her current crusade against Scientology.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Wrong. YOUR OPINION is exactly that. Just your opinion. Blanket statements like "I was simply pointing out that this is an unattractive quality in an otherwise very attractive person." are simply incorrect. You are wrong. This is your opinion. It is not unattractive in any way, shape or form. What IS disgusting is how people like you who use the word "ladylike" as if all women should conform to how old men THINK they should behave.

I love the way she uses curse words. It's an art. Just because your mother and grandmother never swore in the "good old days" doesn't mean she should adhere to your ridiculous ideals and archaic misogyny.

She can express herself any way she wants, and forgive me, but I doubt she gives a solitary *beep* about what a 50+ year old man thinks about her vocabulary. I think you need to grow up if the worst thing about this entire show you want to talk about is a few curse words. Not families torn apart, not physical abuse. No. Just the way Leah uses curse words.

Pathetic. I'll wait for your attempt at an insulting response. Lol.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

To samuelyates - Well my first thought is personally, I couldn't possibly care less what Leah Remini (or you for that matter) thinks of me. And yes, it is just my opinion, just as your statement " It is not unattractive in any way, shape or form" is your opinion. I'm curious though, if your mother, sister or lets say if you have children, your daughter spoke that way - would you be so nonchalant about it??? I highly doubt it, especially if you were telling the truth.

Im curious as to whether you are a man or woman. If a man - I suspect some perversion on your part. That you get off on women who say F*&^%K constantly. If you are a woman, I suspect you are cheap. ANd if in fact you talk like Leah does, I wonder how many men of quality come into your life?? I doubt any. You're not a star like Leah so you'd just get the bottom of the barrel type of men, the ones nobody else would want.

And lastly, your comment " I think you need to grow up if the worst thing about this entire show you want to talk about is a few curse words. Not families torn apart, not physical abuse. No. Just the way Leah uses curse words. " Im curious, do you understand English? Maybe so, maybe not, or maybe its trouble with reading comprehension. The subject was what you think of Leah Remini as a person. The subject was not the insanity of Scientology. All of the stuff you mentioned, yeah its awful - however, I didn't mention any of that because I was only speaking of Leah as a person. There I said it twice to help you with reading comprehension. Hopefully this time you'll understand.

Right on all accounts. Women still need to fit into a box? We're not allowed to use free speech? Say what we want, but the PC police, like all the whiners on here; stay in your homes if you can't handle real life. The world is Rated R. Even if I led my life as a saint, I live in LA. My day would be rated R for brief nudity, pervasive coarse language, sexual content including graphic dialogue, drug use and smoking.

If I acted like I was Amish, I would die. I walk to Sunset Blvd, I'm going to see a hooker offering her 'services', that's rated R. Then I'm going to walk by some meth heads. Drug use. Then I'm going to hear the f-word everywhere. I see people on the streets shoot up. People masturbate in public. Smokers everywhere.

I should be clutching my pearls, right?

Oh how adult this world is. How can I cope with all this foul language? Waah!

If a woman wants to play football, let her. She doesn't want to wear heels and skirts, go for it. There's nothing that makes you a woman except your pride and what gender they're born.

If people allow themselves to be offended by a word, you're cutting off your own power.

A person hates you because they either wanna be you, see you as a threat, or hate themself

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

"I should be clutching my pearls, right?"

You stole my coined phrase. I patented that phrase with my BFF Minnie Pearl.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Wrong! If you look upthread, you'll realize I used it first. Here at at least, so scram!

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Yep. You're different.

Usually people don't use terms like "ladylike" as a mold for women anymore. Research has also shown that women who curse are more independent and intelligent.

People need to get past their beef with curse words. They are only words used for emphatic purposes. Shouldn't matter if someone is male or female, let 'em curse away.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

If she wants to cuss all the time, that's her prerogative, but there is also nothing wrong with someone saying they don't like her dropping f bombs all the time. I don't care that she cusses I guess, but I'm not raising my kids to talk like that. People may not like the term "ladylike" someone else used, so I'll use the phrase "no class" to refer to men or women equally so as not offend anyone. Maybe people think it's the real world, but to me when you use cuss words that often, the words lose their effectiveness. I dont think saying she is from Brooklyn means "oh ok, she is from Brooklyn so her cussing is actually great behavior". I will cuss in private but try to not cuss and drop f bombs while shopping at the grocery store for example. I try and not cuss but when I do, I especially try not to in public. She can cuss all she wants, but it's also ok for people to think it's not great behavior as well. Doesn't mean it's not a good show, ornthat she isn't a good person, or that she hasn't done a great job exposing COS but personally I just don't like celebrities who cuss all the time, esp the ones who just do it for shock value and to piss people off. I think having kids has influenced me on this subject as well. Maybe it's old fashioned now to not cuss or to try and raise them to not cuss, but if so I guess I am turning into my parents lol.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

A very reasonable and balanced post. Kudos to you.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Are you acquainted with the use of paragraphs?

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Well, as I said jessblanchard, I dont care for excessive swearing in men either. ANd Im sorry, although I respect your opinion, I find it a bit difficult to believe in any research that states that women who curse are more intelligent. However, I do believe women that curse are more independent. Probably more independent by necessity. Youre not going to get a top notch, educated, successful man if you speak like that - its that simple. I know, I worked in professional offices my whole career. WOrked with many women. None of them spoke like remini - even at parties. It just didnt happen. Leah can get away with it cuz shes a star. The average woman who speaks like that comes across as trailer park trash. ANyway, thank you for your opinion and best wishes.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

@toddjacobucci

Oh, come on. The women you worked with probably didn't swear only because they were at work with you. You do not have to be only "trailer trash" or "ghetto" to swear a lot-people from all walks of life do it. Even rich people do it. Also intelligent people curse when they get mad just like anybody else. It's simply a from of expressionnow, there is a right time and place for itI don't believe in doing it just any old where, because that's disrespectful. Cursing is best saved for when you're around your family and friends. And why are you so focused on only women swearing? Men swear all the damn timefunny how you're not getting on them about it. I love cursing, because that's how I express myself. I know when and where not to do itit's definitely not something I do at anytime or anyplace, and I don't do it in certain places. I don't believe in saying just anything just anywhere, and I don't like when other people do it eitherjust shows a lack of respect to me. Also Remini was on a popular show called the King Of Queens for nearly a decade and she didn't curse on that show, since it was mainstream. I do find this quibbling over whether an actress curses or not ridiculous in the light of the fact that she's shedding on a very important issue here, in terms of exposing what many people believe to be a sham religious cult.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

To activista - thank you for your opinion. I understand and respect what you say. Just one thing you missed - in one of my replies I said, re:swearing, "I dont care for it in men either, Im just used to men swearing." So, Im not focused on women alone. A lot of what you said I completely agree with - especially your statement that if you are going to swear, its best saved for when you are around family and friends. Remini does it in front of millions of strangers. And re:King of Queens, she couldnt have sworn on that show even if she wanted to - "king of Queens" was a scripted network (CBS) program.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I enjoy the documentary but I agree with you about her swearing. I remember her saying she dropped out of school at 14, and it shows. She takes care of her appearance, she's somewhat attractive, but when those F bombs come blasting out of her mouth, it definitely takes something away.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I understand why some have a problem with obscenities. But, my mom was from Brooklyn and had a filthy mouth (and she was still extremely feminine) so, Remini's cussing doesn't bother me in the least.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I'd rather they allowed audiences to hear the f bombs and stop bleeping. The bleeps are more annoying and it's not like we're not hearing the word in our head.

It's such an ugly sounding curse which is losing its impact due to overkill.

But I like Leah and find her sincere.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I never thought too much of her - always seemed like one of those "Long Island" or "Jersey Shore" types of bimbos so I never really got into any of the shows she was on.

But, I greatly admire her for standing up to this cult. Hopefully it will lead to their down-fall.

My opinion

I think Leah is a brave woman to get out of this cult and to expose it for what it is.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Her use of language bothers me less than not at all when compared to those freaky long pointy fake nails. Gross.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Im a fan. but i agree i wish she cursed less just cuz i hate unnecessary cussing

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

Lol Scientologist break up anddestroy families and you're concerned about Her cursing. If I had been in Scientology as long as she had and went through all that I would be cursing a lot too. You are basing it too much on judgment of her character. Think of it as someone very angry rightly so for what they went through and sometimes you can't help but curse when talking about David Miscavige.

Btw ironically u mentioned K.A. From fat actress. When Leah publicly disconnected from Scientology K.A. was on DWTS At the time and went off on her like she had did some horrible thing.

Re: What do you think of Leah Remini????

I agree 100%. You do not have to have a potty mouth to get your point across.
