Breach : Great movie, but how much of it was bullsh**?
Re: Great movie, but how much of it was bullsh**?
I was wondering this myself, but I think I'm better off not knowing. Whenever I get the factual side it makes me rate the movie more harshly instead of judging it on its own merits. This ruined quite a few films for me in the past, so from now on I choose to stay ignorant.
(No but really how accurate was this film?)

Re: Great movie, but how much of it was bullsh**?
Correct, there was never anything like Hanssen pointing a gun at Eric
Hanssen never went to Eric's house, nor did he meet Eric's wife
I dont believe Hanssen asked Eric to mail the package with the sex tape, but Hanssen was a perv who humiliated his wife by rigging up a camera feed to the downstairs basement, where his friend could watch Hanssen having sex with his wife
The "pissing purple" comment was indeed what got him captured. They had a tape of him saying it, but no one recognized the voice
Once someone who knew Hanssen heard the tape and the comment, he knew who it was
The scene where Eric takes Hanssens palm pilot was true, except for the photo shoot. They did go to the shooting range, Hanssen did come back a little early, Eric did panic after he placed the palm pilot back in Hanssens bag because he thought he put it in the wrong pocket
Hanssen was obsessed with Catherine Zeta Jones.
The arrest went down just like it is shown in the movie
here is a video of Hanssens arrest
but Chris Cooper added the line "what took you so long"
and Eric never saw Hanssen again, unlike in the movie where they cross paths with Hanssen in handcuffs

On the voice recognition, they had 2 analysts who heard a recording of his voice and knew it was him. They recognized his voice.
When he was captured, in the movie he says: "Guns won't be necessary."
In reality, he said: "All things come to an end."
Also, they didn't throw his badge/creds on the ground like Tom Brokaw said. They were throwing tape that Hanssen used to mark the "Foxstone park" sign that would indicate he left the package at the dead drop site.

Re: Great movie, but how much of it was bullsh**?
anyone notice that the scene where he marks that sign for the drop, already has a white line running horizontal. When he has 'marked' it the white line is vertical, and the horizontal one has dissapeared, so he didn't even use tape?
just something I noticed..

According to Wikipedia, they ultimately did recognize his voice, but only after someone else recognized the comment about the Japanese. Until then the voice was familiar to one of the analysts, but he couldn't place it.
