Moonlight : So is he gay or not?

I have a feeling maybe he was never gay but because Kevin was the ONLY man/person who ever touched him, he thinks he's gay? Not sure but thats what I thought, since he's never been with a girl/woman? Does he even know if he's gay or not? I think because he has had so little love in his life, when he finally got some sort of attention from Kevin, he latched onto that. Any ideas? Are they both gay or confused? Hmm.

Since the movie never gave a direct answer it is probably up to the interpretation of the viewer. I like how you looked at it though, I never thought of it that way but I just thought he was gay.

I think what made me look at him as a gay man was the conversation he had with Juan in the first act when he asks how he knows if he's gay. (that scene was heartbreaking).

But I really think it's up to the viewer to decide. I didn't look into it as much as you did which also causes me to think. But he knew he liked men, otherwise I don't think him and Kevin would've had their interactions. Kevin was also the only person to ever show him any sort of affection since they were little kids though so that could have something to do with it as well.

Hes gay. The fact that he came on himself, after getting a phonecall, gives it away.

That scene with Juan, and the way he and Theresa handled it was so powerful. You could see them already feeling bad for Chiron having to question his own sexuality (if he was even old enough to comprehend what that was) along with everything going on at home and with the bullies at school. The way Juan sort of hung his head you knew he felt bad for the burden he was going to bare later in life when he was able to come to grip with those feelings.

As I watched the film I never got the feeling Chiron would ever be able to experience the freedom of finding out what his real self is until the end so it is really up to interpretation.
