Split : Twist/Easter Egg

I went to see this movie because i love twist endings. when this thing was over my husband and i looked at each other and said what????!! It wasn't until we got home and I looked online that i saw that you had to have seen the first movie to get the twist. Irritated the hell out of me.

Also..does anyone who saw the movie Carrie see an egg regarding the way the psychiatrist died? Or am I reaching????

i saw it in a crowd of teens and they hated it. but ppl that are cinema fans and appreciate slow burns with pay off like this

The fact that the movie is marketed a a stand alone is exactly what I'm talking about. I thought it was going to stand alone. But if you haven't seen unbreakable, then you have no idea what's going on at the lunch counter at the end. I found that really disapointing.

I find it more disappointing that there are people out there that expect movies to only reference the movies that they themselves have seen.

Odd. You shouldn't have to have seen a director's previous films to understand an ending. Plus a movie should say it is a sequel to another movie.

If it was called 'Unbreakable 2: Split", or "Split: Unbreakable 2" or whatever it would make more sense.

I totally get what you're saying but I reacted a little differently. It just made me really want to see Unbreakable, as I hadn't seen it either. But yea, I see your point too. Seeing Willis I knew there had to be some twist there that I just wasn't getting, so to me that was kinda cool even though I didn't know why. Lol

I think to fully appreciate it you have to seen its predecessor. As a stand alone movie it really isn't anything special. But because of the ending and what it could mean for the future I loved it.

I felt the same way. I was thinking, during the film, "This is a weird and not very good". Then music from Unbreakable started playing, and I was like, "Why is there Unbreakable music in this movie?". Then the ending happened and I was like, "Yes, I love it!".

Yes! I told my dad (who saw it with me) that it was a pretty decent movie before it got to the Unbreakable tie in. Once I started hearing the music I knew exactly what was happening. It does suck for people who haven't seen Unbreakable, let alone enough times to know the music. I don't think I've ever been so surprised by an ending to a film. Loved it!

You assumed there would be a twist, that was your first problem. A few of his movies haven't actually had "twist" endings.

Plus I suppose it depends on your definition of "twist ending" is. This movie's big reveal was that it was a follow up to his movie Unbreakable. Which at this point is 15 years old and if you're not at least kind of aware of what happened in that movie, well that's your own fault. Considering most of us thought we'd never see a sequel to Unbreakable I consider that a bit of a twist.

Considering I spent most of the movie hoping that Dr. Fletcher was going to whip out some telekinetic kung fu, I would have loved to tie the two characters together somehow. In the movie she was smashed by a support or something that swung done from the ceiling and in this movie her ribs were basically crushed - I don't think this was a subtle breaking of the 3rd wall. I think the writers chose that method to showcase The Beast's extreme strength.
However when Dr. Fletcher was sitting with her neighbor the camera did seem to showcase her legs and I thought "Yep, she's still got a gym's teachers legs, regardless of her age."
