Manchester by the Sea had among the most complex, nuanced, beautiful portrayals of characters in deep emotional pain and turmoil that I've ever seen in a movie. Every performance in that film, particularly from Affleck, Hedges and Williams, is deeply affecting and will stick with me forever.
Moonlight had the challenge of telling the story of a beaten, unaccepted character over three different time periods, and each actor playing Chiron nailed their performance as someone changed by the unforgiving atmosphere around them, yet still remaining the same inside. Additionally, Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris round out the cast by giving arguably the tremendous standout performances.
Hidden Figures was a fine film with good performances all around, but nothing compared to its other nominees. This is just my opinion though.

I agree with you about "Manchester". Haven't seen "Moonlight", that's on my list.

As I noted on another thread, "Fences" got SAG awards for both Denzel and Viola, yet for some reason SAG chose this film for overall cast. I agree with you, good performances all around in this film, but other films have performances that will really stick with you. That scene at the end of "Manchester" between Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams will be studied in acting classes.
