Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
i actually really enjoyed his character. he had a few funny lines and the fact his character ran out the house and STAYED was awesome. plus he was hot af.
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
I enjoyed his character as well. So many jives at him by the director. Mad props.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
I enjoyed his character as well. If anything, he was way too nice to the girlfriend. I would have dumped her a long time ago if she treated me like she treated him.
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
To her they weren't even together, he was just at the top of her list. But yes I wouldn't put up with her BS, and I'm especially not effing around with a paranormal demon for her xD
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
While I partially agree, I do not think I would put up with being treated so distantly after being with someone for months. It IS worth pointing out that it seems the daughter had issues with intimacy, and wanting to commit to a relationship, probably because she believed her father abandoned her family. She probably felt like if he married someone, they would just leave her too. She realizes at the end of the film that her father never actually left, he was killed by the ghost.
Also, while the boyfriend didn't get much development, he was committed to her, for more than just nookie. He cared about her, he stuck around through her family's crazy s***, and even though he took off terrified after being attacked by Diana, he DID come back with the cops, to try and save everyone.
He was a redeemable character. And I honestly hope if they do a sequel, that they leave the survivors alone. Have a different story, different characters. I honestly think this film is fine as a standalone, and as with MANY movies, does not warrant a sequel. In fact a sequel with the same characters might surely kinda ruin and dilute what was presented here. This movie told a self-contained story, and even though it was a huge bummer that the mom had to shoot herself, at least the story had a conclusion.
If the ghost is able to just come back after that, that is both a lame cop-out, and cheapens the resolution the first film's story came to.
But you know Hollywood these days. Everything needs to be a "franchise", because money.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Sappy? Yes. Lunkhead? No. I was expecting this dude to be the first person to die from doing the idiot move that characters of his ilk usually do. But the dude was nice and caring and his evading death in the finale actually was one of the only times where this movie really drew cheers from the crowd I saw it with. You're being too hard on the guy.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
That dude was one heck of a good boyfriend to her. Btw, anyone else think he looked like a 'poor mans Bradly Cooper'?
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Taking a woman's emotional and mental abuse caused by her own baggage with stride makes a man a good boyfriend? Typical. Be by her side, no matter how badly she treats you. Who cares if your needs aren't met! All that matters is her needs!
What's really sick is that you'd actually want to raise your sons to be so self-sacrificing for women.
Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.

What is sick are your interpretations. It's like you try to find something to complain about when it should be something to applaud.
She wasn't abusive. They just never talked about where each wanted their relationship to go.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Applauded when she shows him an inch of love, trust, compassion, etc. After Jack died, Rose actually lived like he wanted her to live. That shows to me, the man in the audience that she actually valued his life and honored his sacrifice.
Telling a person you've been having sex with for 8 months, after 8 months of sharing the most personal, intimate act you can have with another human being, you tell that person that you're not comfortable enough to sleep with them, you're not even comfortable enough to keep a personal article of yours with you says so much about how little you feel for them. Bret was a tool. I think it was some bad writing to say that they had been doing this exclusively for 8 months. BUT there you have it. Any man who wouldn't be really hurt and betrayed by this cold, detached attitude after all that time really doesn't know what love is. All he really loves is sex. Once she stops offering him sex for puppy dog loyalty, he's going to start resenting her.

How sad is your life?
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
So you think he was sappy because he wasdecent?
No wonder guys are so sh!tty.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Goddamn. I hope you never have a son. What a sh!tty thing to teach him. Don't ask or demand that your needs get met after 8 months in a relationship. Don't bail if the woman refuses to consider your needs. Stay. Let the woman abuse you. That's the decent thing. Fcking psycho.

Wow, your signature is so appropriate. Let me just play you the world's smallest violin.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Bret did ask that his needs be met, but a ghost trying to kill you and those you know kind of puts these issues on the backburner for anyone with any sense of decency.
You don't abandon someone when their life is at stake.
And the woman wasn't abusive. She had different ideas of what she wanted in their relationship. I mean heaven forbid they should reverse gender roles. You'd be applaudimg the guy for getting the girl into bed without his intention of commitment.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Um, why do you think I have a problem with this?? Because I - like so many other people don't like a guy using a woman just for sex, ignoring her feelings. Yes, as much of a misogynist as you think I am, I do not like players. They're bad for women and they're bad for men like me who want a genuine, heartfelt and mutual relationship with a woman. BUT I also don't think women treating men the same way is a good solution. In fact, it's a horrible solution. Since I'm all about equality, I will look down on a woman using a man for sex as I would look down on a man. I want women to respect the feelings of men. We're not all just about sex and they need to know that.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Luke's post is telling.. while i understand where he is coming from, he sounds awfully bitter like many young virginal men with internet anonymity who forget to take their meds. :) The movie guy yeah he was a nice boyfriend, caring and all that. I just thought they made his entire being revolve around Rebecca. This makes sense because he was a supporting character, but it seemed like he had no independence or purpose in life besides trying to attach himself to Rebecca despite being around her was was dangerous (because of Diana). Whatever, it's a cheesy horror movie!!
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
It's telling huh?
It's telling that I'm wiser than you and every other mangina and feminist that want to turn the big, evil, oppressive man into a doormat.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
heliotrpin - First of all dude, what's with this "virginal" doo doo. Like being a virgin is something to disdain? Is sleeping with a lot of people and not committing to anyone something to applaud? It's a rhetorical question.
Stop the internet warrior disrespectful stuff.
The girlfriend btw, did display hoe-ish dysfunctional behavior because of childhood trauma and daddy issues.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
I think he was a really good character and really good boyfriend. Rebecca didn't want a relationship (and he knew this) she wasn't stringing him along. He stood by her and helped her because he really liked her and waned to be with her. In the end he basically saved the day and was a brave guy

If you stay with someone for 8 months and you suddenly want more than just a casual fck, you want a relationship. If your partner still doesn't want what you want, want to make you happy after 8 fcking months, and you stick by this person, you my friend are a today fcking idiot.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
He's a grown man lol not a baby. He knew what he was getting himself into. If it bothered him enough hed leave, but he didn't because he was willing to wait until she was emotionally available and in the end, he ended up getting her after all
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
brad/bret stole the show in this comedy horror stinker

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
There is only one reason to why she was such a douche towards the guy. I mean if you're a guy and anything like that happens to you and you don't actually move on - something is seriously wrong in the head. I'm not saying she was cheating on him, that was this least of his concerns.
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Piece of *beep* feminist tripe like so many other movies of 2016.
Thank god for Trump.
It is time for an alternative movie central than Hollywood.

Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
He really was one of those latch-on boyfriends but I thought he was a hero. They needed a hero at the end because those cops were so arrogant.
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
Guys who look like male models DO NOT let any woman treat them like crap. Its just one of natures laws. If you are that good looking you just move on until you find a woman who treats you like a god.
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
I didn't think the actor looked like a male model. But she was kind of rude to him until he proved his love and devotion.
Re: The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
It's called being in love?
The boyfriend was a sappy lunkhead
your tone seems very pointed right now.
