Collateral Beauty : Was it that bad

Was it that bad

Everyone is panning this. Is this movie really that terrible haha

Re: Was it that bad

It wasn't to me and some others, but everyone has their own opinions.

I think if you've ever lost a loved one in death you might have more of an appreciation for this film.

Otherwise, it's not as bad as some critics are making it out to be. I actually enjoyed it. It was definitely not what I thought based on the trailers.

Re: Was it that bad

but a lot of people lost at least one loved one in death. That's very common!

Re: Was it that bad

So true. Moviegoers can't be distracted while watching this AWESOME MOVIE.

Re: Was it that bad

My husband and I both liked it. Look deeper than what is on the surface. In my opinion, folks are missing the subtle points of the movie.

Re: Was it that bad

Which are?

Re: Was it that bad

If someone thinks they are smart enough to "get" the subtle point in this train wreck of a superficious garbage postcard pseuo philosophical movie; they really need to point out what the "subtle" points are.

This was a movie version of a facebook post; "Live today, choices are what our days are made up of, love them all equally" and nonsense crap like that, that people who are low IQ feel smart about posting, because they are too dumb to realize it doesnt even make sense.

Re: Was it that bad

Actually, you're so right: one can get the end right from the meeting in the theater (little spoiler here). Kinda wishing for a twist, but never got that chance. As it was a snowy evening, the audience was a lot and we all shared some tears when Mr. S. cried, that is ok I guess. Welcome back in the game, Mrs. K.N., thou :)
Oh, and a got a glimpse on the book that Mr. S. had on his office, it was a Brian Greene one, and I just found smth. like ''The elegant universe'' in my country, so gonna read this one, maybe I'll monetize there, hihi :)
PS: the BEST I've seen for a long time now is Arrival, so there is where my Oscar goes!

Re: Was it that bad

Your self-proclaimed intelligent indignation would have more punch if you weren't coming to the boards for a movie you found stupid just to insult the film and its fans.

I think a lot of movies are stupid. I just let them slide. They're not worth the time. Plus, stupid people deserve entertainment, too. Why should I interfere?

Usually perhaps not this time, but usually people feel the need to stomp and shout and raise their skirts up over their heads and call something "stupid" because they sense there is some aspect of it they're not getting. It feels safer to insult something than to let one's self experience that embarrassment.

I'm sure that's not the case this time, though.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

Re: Was it that bad

Oh snap!!!!!! "not the case this time, though." LOL

Re: Was it that bad

Go see it. I honestly feel that a lot of people just misunderstood the movie. Watch it and really think.

Re: Was it that bad

Naw. Just critics piling on.

Re: Was it that bad

No, this is a good movie. Don't be fooled by the morons who calls themselves "critics" (and who may have vested interest at hand perhaps)

Re: Was it that bad

You're correct. I believe those critics are paid to be negative, with regards to some movies.

Re: Was it that bad

I'm beginning to believe that too.

Re: Was it that bad

No, GREAT MOVIE. Moviegoers have to be attentive. The three characters were actually meant for the person they had interactions with, during this AWESOME MOVIE.

Re: Was it that bad

SPOILER for others reading:

I thought that actually lessned and ruined the movie. It ended on a fantasy/supernatural note which took away the movie's most interesting part.

Re: Was it that bad

I bawled my eyes out. I agree with the person who said if you have lost someone close to you it is more meaningful. I loved it. My brother was killed in a car accident 6 years ago and I felt the deeper meanings. Not sure if my mom can stand to watch it but I told her about it and feel if she saw it she might be able to understand it as well.

Re: Was it that bad

i understand..with all the celebrity deaths, too, this may hopefully be the film, and I've seen it FOUR times (!), to see or go back to, and, like you, I have had someone, my dad (in 2003 at the age of nerly 74) dead..I even started weeping MYSELF..and I still realize the positive message of this..and can appreciate permanently the collateral beuaty of the film (though with Helen Mirren in her very very early seventies, let's just hope she, doesn't die of old age, esplwith death being her "character",If ANY celebrities from this film or anyone else in the film die, it will be very sadly ironic..)

Re: Was it that bad

I think this movie is wonderful. I think the bad reviews are from people who had a perception of how they thought the story will be told based on the previews. If you let your original assumptions go then you will appreciate it. It's actually a better story the way it is told,

Life can only be understood backwards. It must be lived forward

Re: Was it that bad

Critics despise it because of various cynical plot devices used to "manipulate" the audience. It's got meaning that I appreciate however, despite the BS. It isn't THAT terrible.

Re: Was it that bad

I always worry when someone says something like 'It's not bad' when I ask how something is. "It isn't that terrible" is along those lines. I'll wait until it's on netflix or prime.

Re: Was it that bad

You should worry, lol. It's not a very good movie by any stretch of the imagination, I just don't think it deserves to be despised. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Re: Was it that bad

This movie was not bad at all. I'm glad I didn't let the negative reviews sway me from going to see it. It was pretty good and had a good emotional spark.

Memphis Raines: I'm a little tired, a little wired, and I think I deserve a little appreciation!

Re: Was it that bad

I agree. It has something. This movie has put me right off the critics. I saw the ratings on another site 13% by the critics and 68% by the audience. I thought I'm not going to think the critics know better than the audience. I'm glad I went. I enjoyed it. I give the critics 13%.

Re: Was it that bad

I loved it! Really makes you search your heart, accept the bad with the good, and examine your feelings about death. Enjoyed the twists and turns, and at the end, you have to decide what ( love, time, death ) is real.

Re: Was it that bad

Just saw it, I liked it and so did the person who watched it with me.

Re: Was it that bad

I saw 91 films from 2016 and this was the worst. Take from that what you will. And yes, I agree with what most of the critics are writing. Cheesy, overly-sentimental without actually dealing with the topic of trauma in any real way. Also it is chock full of platitudes and garbage throwaway lines that you might find on a bumper sticker or a Facebook post from an out-of-touch aunt. They took an interesting premise and warped it to the point of banality.
