I think Halloween is a perfect time. Yeah it's a long way but it fits the theme.

Agreed. Halloween is a horrible choice. I would say August should have been the absolute latest but end of October is way too far. Should have been summer. I was looking forward to a great first half of the year with Rick and Morty, Twin Peaks, then Stranger Things over summer break. A bit disappointing.

What makes you think people won't tune in for season 2 then? Yes the dull summer TV landscape helped the show become a hit, but now that it is such a huge hit they could start season two on Christmas day and people would still be chomping at the bit to watch it. Halloween is very far away but who the hell wouldn't wanna binge this on Halloween night??

They must have a much higher budget this year. More time in post-production means they couldn't make summer, and figured that (since it's obviously set around Halloween 1984) they might as well release it on Halloween 2017. Fits the season.

Stranger Things is best watched at night in the Summer.

If it isn't Summer, it won't be the same.

The release date, and having major spoilers in the trailer, just took this show off my must watch list.
