True Grit : Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

No. Why would he? He's trying to rescue her. If he had any intentions he could have done that any time before. What a farfetched idea.

Its just so sad that the variety of the world should be used as a contentious issue.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I thought he was going to rape her.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I thought Little Blackie was going to rape her.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I thought Little Blackie was going to rape her.
I thought Rooster was going to rape little Blackie.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

lol
he'd go through saving her from the pit and the snakes, rushing back in time to get help just to end up raping her?

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

The OP has been poisoned by the liberal notion that all men, especially white, are pigs with bad intentions. Forget that he is trying to save her lifehe fell on top of her! He must be about to rape her because he's a man, she's helpless, and after jumping off the horse they were both riding he happened to fall on top of her. Wow. Get a brain.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

Joke, right?

Oh, and thrill me.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I actually thought Little Blackie was a Terminator-Horse sent back in time to kill the Horse-Trader (he's an ancestor of Sarah Connor). After Rooster shoots it "dead", the T-H-1880 (Terminator-Horse) merely re-directs it's power to cleverly installed emergency backup systems, and continues on its journey back to Fort Smith, albeit with exposed circuitry and impeded motor functions

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I'm going to have to watch it again. That sounds like a possible scenario.

Oh, and thrill me.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I just thought I'd write something daft considering the original question, my answer to which is definately a no

"My name's Brian and so's my wife!"

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I pretty much picked up on that Heh heh..

Oh, and thrill me.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

Yup, same here.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

Yes, it did cross my mind just for a slight nano second and I thought "Hey, what's going on here ?" because of the way he pinned her down to the ground and she was screaming but then I thought it wouldnt make any sense because he was trying to save her life.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

An important theme in the Coen Brothers' version is the impact of the ordeal on the life of a young girl something that the original did not address, choosing instead to depict the hunt for and the killing of Chaney as an ennobling adventure and a rite of passage. I view the scene in which she struggles with Rooster not as suggestive of rape but as suggestive that tracking down and killing Chaney has violently robbed her of her innocence. In the final scenes, it's clear that Mattie was physically and emotionally maimed in the ordeal.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

lol yeah after the entire adventure where he had her all alone, he's going to rape her at the end as he is desperately trying to get her, dying, to a doctor, after their horse collapsed from exhaustion.

I thought Cheney would have raped her though.

I think you just wanted to rape her OP you sick fiend! Rape is bad mmmkayy.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

Rape the dead horse? What sense would that make?

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I got this impression, especially because it's the typical hollywood 'rape shot' (camera looking up at rapist as he forces himself on victim). I think the Coens wanted to communicate, at the very least, girl's fear. I'm sure she's got no idea at that point what his intentions are, i.e. either to shoot the horse, or to carry her to safety. To her, at that moment, and in that state, he's just this burly man grabbing at her.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

are you retarded? she was obviously screaming for him not to shoot her horse. why would your mind even go to the rape thing?

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

I knew after my first unconscious preparation for the "rape scene" where its either suggested or outright demonstrated to be a risk in some context (never from Rooster but some hooligan) and then I checked myself and realized that I was doing human pattern seeking based on the default way media treats healthy young women in films like this.

It was about 1/4 through the film then that I decided to make a guess that the Coens would never once suggest anything remotely sexual about Maddie and it turned out to be true.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

No, and only a pervert would take that from the scene.

Seek help, or turn yourself in.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

Never even crossed my mind

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

there is a lot of competition for this, but that might be the most idiotic theory anyone has ever had about a film.

Re: Did anyone else think Rooster was going to rape her?

O.P., you are a sick individual. He was attempting to get her medical attention.
