Better Things : Boy names for all the girls

All the names/nick names for the females are guys names.

Phyl
Sam
Max
Frankie
Duke

I just noticed that and found it interesting.

I noticed this too, though hadn't really though about Sam and Phyl.

It seems like all of the names can be short for a female names Phyllis, Samantha, Maxine, Francisbut then there is Duke and I can't figure that out. I also think all of Sam's kids' name are fairly popular dog names lol.

I think they're supposed to gender-neutral, though I've never heard of a girl named Duke before.

Personally, I don't like gender neutral names, but I do like this show. It's interesting what people are naming kids nowadays.

Oh, I just developed a super crazy theory.
Next season all of them will be men. Louis Ck (or David Duchvovny) will play Sam and the cast will be replaced by men. But the names won't change. Th stories will go on men's perspectives.

That would be pretty interesting. But then Frankie would have to be a super cliche gay guy.

I think the whole transexual thing is really dumb and just against nature and more of a made up thing just to get attention.

But that would definitely be a unique type of show if they flipped like that and pretended like nothing happened. Might have a new show idea to pitch there but instead of gender flipping every season, do it every other episode and have them in alternate universes or something, or hell, don't explain it at all.

As for the gender neutral (shudders) names..I agree that they're just nicknames or shortened versions for like Francis or Maxine. Duke is probably just a nickname.
