Don't Breathe : Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

I know this is a "movie" but still how could the cops not of noticed all the locks inside the house and the basement with the ladder and the set up he had down there. No way they wouldn't of noticed that.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

GREAT question!

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

plus there was that vat of semen and his turkey baster.they had to figure something. lmfao

I read this in a chola accent.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

I just noticed that other viewers pointed out the fact it could've easily been passed off as a sex dungeon. (Swing, padded walls, chains, turkey baster, etc. all fit in.)

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

Of course the cops would find it, but wasn't really needed in the end of the movie imho. I loved how suspenseful this film was.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

End of this movie was dumb.

Girl should have killed blind insemination man and the dog should have killed the girl.

But, of course, they have to leave the possibility for a sequel right?

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

Haha! That ending would have been awesome!

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

In the cops' eyes this was just a simple botched robbery and self-defense incident. They would not necessarily have a reason or care to search the whole house. Probably pretty standard happening in Detroit. Plus they were dealing with a war hero/veteran, who sadly lost a child on top of that, and who would have special respect in the eyes of the cops, and probably wouldn't be suspicious. Seems plausible they wouldn't search the whole house. The basement was really big and labyrinthian and the cell was in a secluded area.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

I also wanted to know how he explained the dead body in a bin bag? surely that suggest that he was going t hide the body and not report it in.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

LOL so because he was MALE and a WAR VETERAN, he will be excused of all weird sh!t including having a weird padded sex dungeon and a turkey baster in his house. Perfect. Dumb af story logic and dumb af life logic are you serious. This movie was sh!t in the end, just admit it.

What, police didn't have enough evidence to obtain a search warrant to search his house? LOL okay, tell that to every other movie where characters have their house searched regardless of however little evidence. This movie was just crap, admit it.

There will be bloodbut you will be loved.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

At that point they may have just taken a statement and taken him to hospital. Afterwards they might well have found his dungeon but at that point in the movie it didn't matter and leaves it open for a sequel. Although it will be a bit contrived if she ends up locked in a house with him again or he can have regained some sight somehow.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

I agree, especially now a days. I live in NW Ohio and after that happened to the girls in Cleveland they would check thoroughly. Just fairly recently there was an old dude that abducted and killed a university of Toledo student near where I live and he had a set up like that they found. They think he may be a serial killer. Pretty scary because out here where it is rural, most people don't even lock their doors.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

Also, didn't the old man land in the basement when he fell/shot himself? The police would have to see the setup down there then, right?

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

I want to know if they found traces of his own semen in his mouth when they took him to hospital, it's pretty routine to take swabs, after all.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

They would have found the stuff in the basement, but depending on what he told them when they first arrived, there is a very good chance that they wouldn't have seen anything else that had happened in the rest of the house. Don't forget that even though the house is a crime scene the police still need a warrant to search the rest of the house; they can't simply start wandering around the house looking in rooms and behind cupboards and stuff. Besides which, it isn't illegal to have bars on your windows and locks on your doors.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

the kidnapped girl's blood would have still been on the floor (where she was shot/killed). he didn't have time to clean that up (plus he's blind. there's no way he could mop up that blood perfectly). there's no way the cops would have just let that coupled with all the other bizarre/suspect things down there just go unchecked.

Re: Cops didn't notice the basement set up?

Because he didn't let them into the house. Simple as that. The police don't get to search your house just because your alarm goes off. Without a warrant or reasonable suspicion of a crime they can't just enter your home and look around.

As I've explained to others, he could simply say he accidentally hit the panic button because he's blind. It's a perfectly reasonable explanation and the police go away.

What panic button? Did you watch the last 2 mins of the movie at all?
