Manchester by the Sea : This is a painfully dull, schmaltzy Lifetime movie garbage

This movie is as entertaining as watching paint dry. It looks like your typical lame Lifetime movie. Casey Affleck gives the same dull, monotone performance that's more worthy of a Razzie. He's one of the worst actors out there. The direction was so bland it looked like as if it was filmed in someone's back yard.

There are a ton of TV shows that cover the same ground in a much better way.

Movies are about entertainment and what people find entertaining is subjective. If not for entertainment, then what other reasons do people watch movies for? Millions and millions of people the world over who like watching movies like Transformers films, Superhero films, The Fast and the Furious films etc cannot be retarded.

I'll stick with Transformers and movies with lots of explosions, CGI, car chases etc. No amount of car chases, CGI, explosions could have made this painfully dull garbage seem entertaining.

I didn't think I would be saying this, but I agree with the OP. I usually like Casey Affleck, but he was just so uninteresting in this movie. There was nothing about his character that was really watchable. It's as if the film-makers just started off with one idea, and then just set the camera up and improvised and hoped something interesting would happen. Then they threw in pretty shots of the surrounding water, which was the only part that was slightly interesting.

It's very interestinghow polarizing this movie is. For meI loved that it was just a simple tale. No over-the-top theatrics or over-actingjust raw emotions and simple.subtlety. What was "interesting".and watchable in this simple little story is not only the terrible tragedy, but the fact that the movie made it all seem so real and relatable. Live long enough, and you will definitely experience terrible pain and loss. Somewill experience unbearable tragedy. This movie shows several things. For starters, you're not alone. This is a story about the human condition. It shows a man who was just on auto pilot, sleep-walking through his life, full of grief and guilt. In being forced to step-up, for his nephew.he finds some meaning and purpose to live again; and regains some of his own humanity.

It's not car chases. It's not explosions. It's just a small little parable, but it should touch us all..because all of us will go through this kind of pain and loss to varying degrees. It should move us to tearsand if you can get that out of a movie, that's generally a good thing. Movies are always "made to entertain".per se. Being moved is cleansing. A good crycathartic. And people who say this movie was simply boring and depressing.are totally missing the boat. There were little grace notes of hope and perseverance.friendship and compassion. If you miss that, it's a shame.and maybe movies like this just aren't for you.

Oh, and the acting. It's so greatbecause nobody seems like they're acting at all. No clever, polished, contrived dialogue.delivered flawlessly after numerous takes. Just raw, awkward dialogue between people going through something so difficult, and it felt real. Making it seem so authentic is a real skill. It's funny, people will give guys like PAcino all sorts of kudos for some ridiculous, way over-the-top performance.shouting and over-acting. But when someone like Casey Affleck under-plays a character (on purpose) making him seem just like a guy you knew in high school, people complain that his performance was dull and not very skilled. I know people just like his character (Lee). His performance was great..because he didn't come across like a movie star reading lines. He came across like an average Joe.exactly like an average Joe, going through something awful.
