Emerald City : Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

The man has never been bad in anything until now. Tarsem really missed the boat on this casting choice. The voice is far too modern for this landscape. Tarsem is so interesting with his sense of design and themes. There are shots here right out of his masterpiece The Fall. The Scarecrow reminds me of Joseph Fiennes. Some of the editing was off. What was the quick Black and White insert meant to be. What was with the boy/girl? Hope it gets better.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

I agree. D'Onofrio is poor casting. If they had to use him they should have given him a voice coach to give him some sort of accent and lines that archaic.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

Clearly Tarsem wanted him having directed him in The Cell. Tarsem made a incredibly bad choice. He ruins every scene he's in and he's a great actor.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

Why would he have an accent and archaic lines when the character is a modern man from modern day Kansas (some point in the last 30 years most likely)?

If you watch the show and put his speaking voice and words in that light the fact that he seems out of place shouldn't bother you as much, since he in fact is out of place At least assuming they didn't change the character too much.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

He is much better than this show.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

agreed. like james franco, he's so good in other things, but so poorly cast for this. big name actors should still do table reads. they can NOT ALWAYS do the melodramatic flair required for a part like this.

badly miscast. a shame, bc it mars vincent's record, which is otherwise wonderful.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

Tarsem, Who I admired once ,is fully to blame. They have worked together before so he had to have thought Vincent would be right for this. How wrong can a visionary like Tarsem be. I've come to the conclusion he should graciously give up directing and turn his talents to Production Design.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

You can't judge him by one episode. It took a few episodes for his awesomeness to come out in Daredevil.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

IMO Vincent D. is not bad (acting-wise) in this but at the same time i too think he's mis-cast in the role (at least from what i can see in the first 2 eps). he's never bad in anything IMO, but at the same he can be cast in the wrong roles.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

Jeez, he only had a few lines. He was great! There is a whole big show all around him. He's playing his part within a weird show. He did a good job.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

He will not get any better. He has already established that horrible voice, can't change.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

I have to agree. His acting was fine, as it usually is, but I wanted a Wizard with gravitas and he just didn't have it.

Re: Vincent D'Onofrio so mis cast

I have know Vincent in the past. Know his work very well. Was on The Velocity of Gary where he played a character , Valentino. It also had Thomas Jane and Salma Hayek. It was not a great film but a noble one . It had the longest kissing scene man to man between Vincent and Thomas Jane.
I love the guy but IMO he was terrible. I know he would agree.
