Baskets : Not Terrible but not that Good

Not Terrible but not that Good

I'll give it 2 more episodes before I rate it. The first episode might lead to potential down the line. But it really wasn't that funny. Unless you're in to that weird, dark, cheesy humor.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Oh cool. I'm in to that weird, dark and cheesy sense of humor! I really liked the first episode. The writing and the humor is pitch black and clever..definitely wasn't "cheesy" though.. I'm not sure if you know what that word means.
But thanks for the suggestion! I really liked the pilot- and I am very much looking forward to the rest of this show now! I'm glad I came across your post first..Good tip!

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I like the idea, but they sure did compress the initial plot setup. First he's in France and then he's in Bakersfield, CA before the first commercial. I would have thought there was more comedy gold to mine with the character in France. Anyway, eager to see more.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Excellent idea. I like Zach Galifianakas's brand of comedy but don't know if he can carry a series. I haven't finished the first episode but admittedly had just watched the 100 and Blacklist back to back. Nice thing about episodic tv is you have a week until the next one. I'm going to watch it this week and give it a few episodes to pan out.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I liked it and I like weird and dark

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

It was freaking weird and how the hell does he pay for his wife to stay in her hotel along with his hotel bill.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I'm not sure because he could barely get 40$ and the hotel bill each night is probably 100 plus each night..

Maybe she is a escort on the side?

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is the worst TV show I've ever seen in all my 50+ years of watching TV. I don't know why anyone likes it. It's certainly not funny at all. It's a self-indulgent piece of crap with completely unlikable characters. I can't believe FX canceled The Comedians and put this on. If not for Zach G.'s name, I'll bet they wouldn't have. Louie had its moments (it was frequently self-indulgent and unfunny) but that show is genius next to this one.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Dear Suzanne Lanoue,

Thank you for your post, it is just perfect.

This show is pure garbage, I did not even smile during the pilot, how could someone be so mentally ill to find it funny???

As for louie, I agree, it had its moments, first season was good, but I quit when he started with lame, gross and stupid (attempted) jokes involving religion

Will visit your site, it seems worth it, and tks again!

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Humor comes in many forms. Every bit as much as 'good' music is always music that YOU like, good comedy is what makes YOU laugh. It's subjective. Baskets is a long way from what's considered mass audience appeal and is designed for a niche audience who enjoys the dark, experimental and offbeat approach to humor ala Louie (C.K. is the producer). This show's obviously not for you. And your tastes aren't the standard by which all humor is to be judged. To describe something that you don't personally enjoy as appealing to only the mentally ill is completely absurd and uncalled for.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I agree - i don't know how people come to the conclusion it is hilarious ? It is poorly written and is just a piece for Louie to indulge his ego as an actor.

It is not funny and has huge plot holes that make no sense. The character comes across as stupid and ignorant and i am not sure if that is by design !

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Maybe you shouldn't have watched TV for 50+ years
For the show: It's super funny. Baskets is trying so hard, but can't be funny when he has to be. In the moments when he does not have to be funny or when his life takes a serious turn, his actions are reminiscent of the likes of Buster Keaton or Bozo.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I didn't know The Comedians was cancelled. That show was great.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

For someone who thinks Community, Scrubs and Its Always Sunny are 1 star shows and Arrested Development a 2, I am sorry to say this but your 50+ years of watching TV is worth nothing.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Have to say I was surprised how bad this was. I generally enjoy Galifianakis' work, but this just seemed to be a lot of rather old gags poorly delivered, and kinda boring to boot.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Just finished ep 2. Going to need to come up big ep 3 to get a decent rating. I don't mind dark, but the jokes, no matter how subtle they try to be, just aren't hitting for me. I didn't really laugh once the entire episode.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Humor like beauty is subjective. I can't even think about Baskets without laughing. So funny, in a very dark way though. Louie Anderson is brilliant in it.
I'll keep watchingLOVE it so far!!!!

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

After this last episode. Giving it a 5. Zach and Louie are entertaining enough for a 5 but the show really just doesn't click. I rarely laugh and the jokes simply don't hit. Probably the last episode I'll watch. Martha is terrible.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Is it possible that all you folks who are disappointed with Baskets have not yet suffered or experienced the hilarity of every day hum drum existence?
Every character, without exception, tells a full story of perseverance and grace even though the are stuck in the rut of existential angst.
This series is classic and treats those who would be otherwise portrayed as"losers" with the love and tenderness of a merciful artist.
And it is FUNNY.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

But Baskets stupidity is gut wrenching and far from Funny. eg When he blew $900 on a tv for the French thing. Surely no one could be that stupid. There is tragic comedy and then there is this show.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I actually enjoyed the last episode a lot more. Louie Anderson getting more air time and kind of leading the show was funny. I can't wait til she confronts his wife.

Oh, you will? Cool, we are all so excited to hear your reviews and also we were wondering how many episodes you would give it. All of us were talking about it before. Thanks for letting everyone know that you will be reviewing it. Can I give you my email so you can tell me directly? It's who cares at no one dot shut up.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Well this is a forum about a tv show and discussing it. Not sure what you're expecting. I remember my first time using the Internet.

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

Yeah I remember my first time too, in 1994.

You seem like an awfully hostile person over a tv show, haha. #trollharder

Re: Not Terrible but not that Good

I have a huge sense of humor (I usually like Zach) so I gave it a go watched the 2 first episodes rated it 4 and I'm a generous man.
