The Real Housewives of Atlanta : These black women are anti-gay- the irony

These black women are anti-gay- the irony

There is something so I don't know the right word, maybe creepy or disturbing about the way they talk about gays and lesbians. They make it sound like the deepest, darkest, most taboo thing one could be is gay. They laughed hysterically while discussing Kim Field's husband last season, and they're doing it again with the rumor that Kandi had been or is still a lesbian. There's a real nastiness to the way they talk about it. I wonder, is that just the culture in Atlanta, or more to do with the fact that they're black/African-American? Cynthia Bailey is the only one who doesn't exhibit this trait. Well, Kim didn't last season and Kandi doesn't either. It seems like Cynthia and Kim had gay friends from Hollywood and modeling, and maybe that's why they don't talk like the others?

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Phaedra might be in trouble if she goes to a spa or has some strange hairstylist get their hands in that mess!

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Cynthia is overall more mature and respectful in certain ways than her cast members. They tend to behave like ignorant school children and they are very obvious with their distaste for gay people. They use gay men for lingo and catchphrases while making nasty comments. Kandi enjoying threesomes with consenting adults isn't the least bit scandalous and it doesn't warrant this type of discussion. There's a lot of homophobia on the show and it's very disconcerting that they've managed to get even worse regarding this topic.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Maybe they think this will "keep it fresh!" I find it terribly offensive, but what do they care?

Excellent and well said Perfect.

I remember last season some posters on this board were upset by the derogatory "gay bashing/name calling" by certain cast members to insult other cast members.

Seems these ladies learned NOTHING last season when being so disrespectful to Kim Field's husband by using gay insults and THEIR boss Andy Cohen pulling them up on this.

I really hope Andy pulls them all up on this again as they are going to end up alienating the gay community and gay men in particular who watch this show and have been since they saw Dwight, Derek J, Brandon and Miss Lawrence.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Glad someone brought this up. This is, sadly, an example of the majority of the black community.

I don't get tired.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

JoJeaux..exactly which Black community?

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

All of it. Dafuq.

I don't get tired.

Lmao.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

The narrow-minded, religious obsessed, and of course the hypocrites on "The D/L!"

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

They all have gay friends. We've seen them all on the show. Cynthia just chooses not to say anything and Kim's husband has been accused of it so she probably wouldn't be vocal about how she feels about it

No Roger, no Rerun, no rent

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

The same thing's going on with the Ho's of "Married To Medicine!" You have Toya & Heavenly signifying that 1 or 2 of the other husbands are GAY! I wish I knew why Black people pull this kind of $#!t; it's so common!

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

It's almost like the 'F' word is their equivalent of the 'N' word. They just use terms like fairy and fruity.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Ok. I just watched the last episode. What was anti gay about the Kandi gossip?

No Roger, no Rerun, no rent

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

That does seem to be a trend, which is quite jarring, considering where they live, who their "friends" are, and all the gay culture they assume. What is really weird is, they keep doing it even though Nene was called out on it years ago, and directly at that, by their boss. (Well as much as Andy will call one of them out, it was a hot 2.3 seconds, but it was there)

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

It'll be brought up at both reunions; "RHWA" & "MTM!" Don't these people know who's styling and dressing them? If they start coming out looking like circus clowns, we'll know why!

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Damn. Why do some petty ladies on a reality show have to reflect the entire black community? Our first black president has been a major champion for gay rights, so it's just as close-minded to say anything to the contrary. Sweeping generalizations can't be made about gays, but they can be made about blacks? As a black woman, I would never disrespect any gay person. My sister is gay, our entire family accepts it and treats her with dignity unlike the handful of women on this show. Any mature person is going to respect others regardless as to what their sexual preference is, so stop spreading this foolishness as though we're all intolerant because it simply is not true.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Many of them then!

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

I agree 100%.

I really want Andy to call them out on it again like he did last Season with Kim Field's husband as they obviously didn't pay attention the first time.

The ladies need to be careful as the gay community in particular have been a contributing factor to the show in the past (Miss Lawrence, Derek J, Dwight and Brandon). They also have a gay fan base particularly gay men who like this show.

Considering their own boss is gay you would think they would have the good sense not to bite the hand that feeds them.

Can anyone imagine if on one of the other housewife shows they kept on using the "n" word or saying "coloured" or making monkey references as racial slurs and how that would go down? Come on now ladies!!

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

I remember Andy taking NeNe to task at a reunion over comments she made. Although she apologized I got the impression NeNe wasn't sincere and only apologized because it was Andy calling her out. One would think after seeing cast members called out the women would at the very least keep their comments in check. Didn't one of the men from RHONJ get called out at a reunion also? I don't get why they think barely veiled homophobic behavior is acceptable in civilized company.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

One of the words I most want to see retired in 2017 and beyond: "homophobic." OMG, has there ever been a more overused, misused term in popular culture?

"If it doesn't make sense, it's not true." Judge Judy

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

We may as well retire racist and bigot too, since a lot of people think that people often overuse those words as well.

I don't get tired.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

It is ironic that they appear to be homophobic, considering 99% of the funny stuff they say, they steal from the queens on RuPaul's Drag Race.

Say what now?

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Yes, let's. People continue to overuse and misuse those terms as well. Americans have become dumbed down to an alarming level. Blinded by emotion, bathing in delusion, missing in intellect and critical thought. Whatever it takes for people to wake out of their delusion, let's do that.

"If it doesn't make sense, it's not true." Judge Judy

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Speaking for myself I didn't call them homophobic- I called them anti-gay. As for retiring 'homophobic,' how can we when that word perfectly describes Trump's cabinet selection?!?

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Really? They "hate and/ or fear gays?" You know what's in their hearts?

"If it doesn't make sense, it's not true." Judge Judy

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Mike Pence- he's the only one I'm not sure how he feels about homosexuality.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

OP what exactly is "ironic" about the black woman on the show allegedly being "anti-gay"? What are you trying to imply??

-___- smh

And none of the woman have ever said anything homophobic ever and they all have gay friends. Andy asked about it and they vehemently denied being homophobic so you have no standing. Just a baseless accusation.

Also, where did you see nastiness about kandi being a lesbian? I saw shock and indifference.

Lastly, I love gay people (if that gay person is a nice person, just because your gay alone doesn't mean I have to like you) but not everyone does. And so what?? That is their right. Just as long as one doesn't go around spewing hate towards a certain group, people can believe whatever they want. Some people just don't agree with it, or are super religious. It's irritating that the gay agenda has to be stuffed down everyone's throats and those that don't agree with it have to be crucified. Smh.

I'll also educate the ignorant people in this thread, that the "gay lingo" that everyone says the ladies use is actually originated from southern black women. Gay people are the ones who adopted it's their own. Which is fine, but stop acting like gay people invented it and now black woman are stealing it. It's quite the opposite.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

The irony is that one minority would badmouth another minority. Just as bad as a gay guy making fun of black people.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Ironic? It's more than a little common to signify like that!

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Lol PLEASE at the end of the day, white gay males still have more privilege than black women and that is the sad part. Azeleia Banks said it best herself. Black women are the lowest on the totem pole in society (horrible, but true). Even BLACK gay males are higher. Black women have nothing to sympathize about. They're not even on yebsame level according to American society. Smh. Look at what is going on with Kim Burrell. The poor lady was just quoting bible scripture and since the executives in Hollywood are all gay males she is crucified and ripped apart. You can't even stick to your beliefs these days, even if they're rooted in the word, because of the gay agenda. You have to hide your faith or lie. And like I said I like gays, but this whole "if you don't accept the gay lifestyle and aren't ride or die for gays and have you're own opinion" crap is disturbing and getting out of hand. Gay people aren't even always nice. I've been to gay clubs where they have been discriminitory, rude and ignore you because of my orientation (straight female) to the point where my and friends feel uncomfortable or have to ask a guy to get me a drink. THE real irony is that that has happened to my lesbian friends as well. ???

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Thank you Poppy. And in regards to Kim Burrell, she is not innocent in any of this. The backlash she's getting is more than warranted. that hoe "declared" that all gays would be dead come 2017. Wishing death on a group of people is beyond bigoted.

I don't get tired.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

OMG, I knew Burrell was on "blast," but had no idea she had taken it that far! Shame! She should be done! IDK how you can come back and rationally make an excuse for that kind of "hate-speech!" An apology wouldn't be enough IMO!

- - http://www.childrenofrassilon.com/fiero425.html - - homepage

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

An apology isn't even wanted really lol. Me personal, IDGAF, but it amazes me when people say she's just saying what the bible says and what she believes. The bible ain't say that sh!t.

I don't get tired.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Neither do I, but I'm sure all concerned will demand an apology regardless just for "PR" purposes!

- - http://www.childrenofrassilon.com/fiero425.html - - homepage

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Well I fit in the group she condemned to death and I could care less about an apology from her.

I don't get tired.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

I'm just going to bring up the fact that saying someone is gay isnt being anti-gay.

Its interesting that they can laugh and make fun of everything else. but the second its "well you know the rumors are hes gay" its a problem. Maybe those are the rumors. As Kim fields said, it didnt bother her because people say it.

No one seemed to have a problem with the "Mr. Chocolate" rumors.

There is a lot of anti-gay in the black community. That said Bringing up rumors taht KAndi is a lesbian isnt anti- gay. Those rumors have been around for yeeeears. I feel like the first one I heard was Phaedra and Kandi were doing things together..

Also, I'm not sure why you think their stylist/ hair dressers would mind. They probably laugh and joke with them about some of the rumors.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Not understanding this thread.no clear reason to call them anti gay. Andy Cohen can sit his ass all the way down if he wants to call somebody out on some *beep* He's messy, hypocritical whining bitch

No Roger, no Rerun, no rent

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

I agree. Black men especially, are noctoriously misogynistic and homophobic. These women probably grew up hearing, "Don't put that baby's diaper on too tight! You'll make him gay!" It's like being gay is the absolute worse thing you could be. I think it has to do with hundreds of years of oppression. It's hard enough being black, being black AND gay?? Its a survival method. I imagine many gay black men are self-hating and living a lie in a straight marriage to avoid making their life more difficult

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

It is terrible. On Married to Medicine; they are worst. One wife spatted out to a cast members-" With yo' gaay ass huzbannd!"

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

Didnt that cast memeber's husband have a man come out on the streets and say he was in a relationship with her husband.

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

I still don't know about that crazy scene from last season! You expect guys to "go there," but it's the stupid arse women are invoking homophobia!

- - http://www.childrenofrassilon.com/fiero425.html - - homepage

Re: These black women are anti-gay- the irony

It's funny because a lot of the stuff some of them do and say is very gay in itselfYet they are overdramatic about gay men. There are many examples throughout the seasons, but one glaring one recently is when they were in the doctor's office and touching Cynthia's boobs.I know ppl will say it's not gay but yeah it is even if you're just kidding around. There's nothing wrong with any of it but it's hypocritical to be all touchy feely with other women yet freak out when you suspect a guy likes guys.
