Hostage to the Devil : Sort of incomplete/scattered film; who was Malachi Martin?

Sort of incomplete/scattered film; who was Malachi Martin?

I have never heard of him and enjoyed the film, but it was also a bit maddening.

One man claimswith no proofthat Malachi Martin had an affair with his wife. Others say Malachi Martin acted strange toward the end of his life, but it's all very vague and there is no follow-up.

And then some exorcism with a 4 year old, Malachi Martin dies, then 4 years later when she is 8, the exorcism is done (again?) and it works, but it's all very vague and a but disconnected.

Re: Sort of incomplete/scattered film; who was Malachi Martin?

Some people try to claim that Malachi Martin was involved in the Robby/Roland Doe case that inspired The Exorcist - however it seems he didn't move to the US until the 1960s and the Doe case happened in the 1940s.

I think it's geared for people who are already somewhat familiar with him, either through his nonfiction book "Hostage to the Devil" which recounts some of the exorcisms he performed (insert "alleged" as you see fit), or his "factions" (fact-based fiction) books, or his general infamy from the lecture circuit, particularly with the Warrens.

I didn't think it was a very good documentary. Robert Kaiser, the journalist, wrote a book titled Clerical Error which goes into more detail about Martin's affair with Kaiser's wife. Allegedly Martin had at least two other sexual relationships with women, both of which are documented in other books (too lazy to Google them).

Re: Sort of incomplete/scattered film; who was Malachi Martin?

I read Martin's book back in the '70s (had the paperback release) when, thanks to The Exorcist, all things paranormal were a hot topic for a minute or two. I didn't believe in possession then and I don't believe in it now, but it was an entertaining read.

The worst thing that ever happened to the movies was when some pretentious twit decided they should be art.
