The Huntsman: Winter's War : Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
He's not a great actor by any means but he's beautiful, sexy and oozes of sex appeal
Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
Hear, hear!
Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
and has been the star of three films costing more then $100 million to make let alone market in the last year that have flopped. Thor will keep him afloat, but his days of being in big budget films as the lead are probably behind him (outside of the marvel films of course).
Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
It doesn't appear that way.
His return to the next Star Trek sequel was announced pretty quickly after Beyond underperformed, so Hollywood executives are still banking on him to bring in the money.
All of of his films that flopped didn't flop because of him, Huntsman in particular. They flopped because they all had terrible-to-mediocre scripts.

Sorry, the scripts where not the issue. Bad scripts aren't known until after the opening weekend, and even then bad films often continue doing reasonable business. Hence Transformers being a mega series and Suicide Squad doing huge business despite terrible or completely muddled scripts.
His films have outright flopped recently, they haven't opened well for big budget films which kind of suggests outside of Thor he simply isn't bankable. That isn't to say he is a good or a bad actor, just that he doesn't put bums in seats.
That and they where talking about Chris returning before the new Star Trek released. I can't imagine we will get another big budget Trek next, if they truly think he is a draw they deserve to keep loosing money backing him. With that said I don't want him back in Trek, unless they did a story before the current crew. Undermining his sacrifice would be very poor story telling, and excusing why he never turned up if he survived would be equally bad.

Actually, the fact that Blackhat and The Huntsman had terrible scripts was very obvious from their trailers way before their release. The horrible reviews confirmed that. Even if people didn't specifically think of "wow, that script is bad" when they saw the trailers, they certainly saw how bad the films were.
I have no idea why anyone wants to see Transformers, but summer blockbusters have an annoying habit of being hits even when they are almost unwatchable. Maybe the trailers make them look fun?
A very select few movie stars can fill the theaters on their name alone, we are not living in that era anymore.
Anyway, this thread was about Hemsworth being a mediocre actor, and hence deserves to have his films fail, and my view is that it's not his acting at fault, it's the quality of the films he has made.
Blackhat and In the Heart of the Sea looked good on paper, but their directors and screenwriters, despite the talent, failed spectacularly.
The Huntsman was a mess only studio executives could've thought looked good on paper. And being a sequel to a film that had a lukewarm reception to begin with, didn't help.
Even if Hemsworth's return had been discussed earlier, it's pretty obvious why it was confirmed right after Beyond underperformed.
For me, it's not that important why or how he is being brought back to Star Trek, since the entire franchise is not exactly quality cinema or television (to me, anyway), but I might see it for Hemsworth.

Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
Hemsworth has another solo Thor film in 2017 plus two more Avengers movies which will probably have a bigger budget than anything they've done yet. Even if those films are the only profitable ones with his name in it for the foreseeable future, I doubt he's gonna starve :) I do agree he is an average actor but I think he was good in Rush. Also, both he and Chastain were terrible in this movie. It should've been mostly about the two queens.
Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
He was great as Capt Kirk's dad and the guy on the motorcycle in The Cabin in the Woods.
Re: Face it: Hemsworth is just a mediocre actor
Hemsworth's performance in this film was terrible, yet he is a good actor. He just isn't experienced enough to pull a good performance with a terrible direction.
Jessica Chastain was equally terrible, yet she's also a great actress.
Blunt and Theron are both experienced actresses who do not need a good director to perform well.
And let's not forget: the director's and the screenwriters's decision to fully character assassinate The Huntsman to deliver lame jokes didn't help.
Hemsworth was pretty good in the first film and was a stand-out among Theron.
