Assassin's Creed : A few opinions after the NY Premiere

Mainly fans and youtubers so take it a grain of salt. But it's nice to see fans are happy of the result. It is a good starting point.

I HAVE SEEN THE AC MOVIE!! Overall would give it 8.5/10, meaning I thought it was great. The historical Assassins being a highlight.

Great acting all around. Action scenes gave me chills. Biggest quibble is some slight contradictions with established lore, but

Bill Collage is one of the worst writers in the industry so it's not a surprise

You can't make blanket judgements on a screenwriter's ability when there are so many moving parts of production out of their control

But Collage is not the only screenwriter of AC.

That's exactly what Warcraft fans said about the Warcraft movie, which is still 7.1 on IMDb by the way, but it didn't stop critics from panning it nor did it stop it from tanking in America. I'm not going to really be satisfied until I see critic reviews.

The first responses to Warcraft were very very negative. With Assassin's Creed it's the opposite and I think most critics will give it a 7,5 or a 8 not lower not higher.

I second that. I don't remember first responses to Warcraft being any good.

Most reactions from Warcraft fans were good, the reactions from people who didn't know anything about Warcraft were not. The problem here is that you're talking mostly about the reactions from Assassin's Creed fans, not the general audience. I can link you to the threads about the reactions of the first people who saw Warcraft in Europe if you like. The reactions of Warcraft after the premiere 8 June in America don't count because by that time it had already opened in a number of foreign territories and it had already been hammered for three weeks by movie critics.

I was talking about the reactions from fans not movie critics. Yes, when the first reviews came out, they were bad but the reactions from Warcraft fans were positive. I was there on the Warcraft board, when the first people from Reddit and so on said that they liked it. I can even link them to you, the fact that the fans (who were most of the people at the premiere) liked it, is not necessarily an indicator that other people will like it.

I have seen the first reactions of the fans and it was a mixed bag with more negative reactions than positive reactions. everything indicates it will be different with Assassin's Creed. Fans will put it in the 7 to 9 range. Critics will put in the 7,5 to 8 range.

Not really so, with Warcraft people were more likely to like it if they were fans than if they weren't. Some fans didn't like it because of the lore changes but on the most part, they seemed to like it from the first screening in Paris (which there is a thread about in on the Warcraft board). Quite a few reactions from non-fans were very negative, so it was more polarising than just negative, people came away from it having extreme opposite views of views of it. A lot popular Warcraft fans on Youtube also liked that movie as well, look up Jesse Cox, SignsOfKelani or Nobbel87 channels if you don't believe me. Just because a couple of popular Youtube's liked it, doesn't mean everyone will.

Judging by the fact that the critic score of Assassin's Creed on the Critic's Choice site already looks positive, that's the first real sign that it might be different with Assassin's Creed but I can promise you that one might be able to make the case that it was different if the reactions were generally positive rather than polarising like Warcraft was. I hope that it will be different.

That's what I said. Well, at least the Critic's Choice rating seems like a positive sign. The embargo ends on the 20th though.

^ This is a pretty good sign. This guy who has an online movie review/news website saw Assassin's Creed and gave it a B. He also gave Silence an A- and Hidden Figures (Which is an oscar-ish movie) a B as well. Good sign!

In general I am not a big fan of the latest Marvel mega action/explosion movies.

Yes. Non fans will also like the movie and more important will understand the story.

It might be silly, but it gave me a lot of hope when Jeremy Irons said that he loves the film and he thinks even his sister would like it. He strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't say something like that unless he meant it.

For those arguing if the warcraft fan reviews were good at this point before the release, hope I can help.

I'm not a video game player, know of both these entities, but not much past the basics. I did some research to see if warcraft would be good before it came out, just like I'm doing for assassins creed.

People HATED warcraft right off the bat, prevented me from seeing it even to this day.

Warcraft looked awful, the action was embarrassing, and the acting was Razzie-worthy. Assassin's Creed looks gorgeous, the trailer sells the action as being cool, and it has a great cast. Even if Assassin's Creed has a terrible story and no character development, it will still be better looking and better acted, and ultimately will be more profitable.

Depends, Warcraft actually already made it to the shortlist of 20 films under consideration for the Best Visual Effects Oscar nomination due to the facial performance capture and the new new Haircraft tool (used for creating realistic CGI hair and feathers), while Assassin's Creed is already out of the running for that particular category. It probably won't make the bakeoff of the top 10 though. I agree that Assassin's Creed looks better though, if the trailer is anything to go by. The late embargo is somewhat worrying though but I guess it makes sense, they're keeping the hype up.

You can't count on Premiere reactions. They are always positive. Seen the movie. Maybe the best gameadaption to date but to muchs flaws. Good acting, visuals and sound isn't enough. Story is paperthin, movie to short, lots of action but not exciting. No surprises. Fassbender still is great.

That's what I was afraid of, I've seen a few people on Twitter saying that that they think the plot and storyline is a bit bland.
