Rules Don't Apply : Big age difference

Big age difference

Howard Hughes is in his 50s in this movie. Beatty is almost 80. Why didn't he give the role to someone else?

Re: Big age difference

Narcissism.

Re: Big age difference

He has been working on this for forty years. He should have made it around the time he made The Fortune. But it is his film. He was perfect to play Hughes and no reason he cannot play it now. He is quite a bit older, but he looks good, better than Hughes did in fact.

Yeah, he could pass for a sixty-five-year old in this film.

Re: Big age difference

Yeah terrible to cast himself as Hughes. He looked like a guy in his 70's. Then to write in a sex scene between his 79 year old self and Lilly Collins who is 52 years his jr. is a little skeevy. He is literally old enough to be her Grandpa.

Re: Big age difference

He is clearly playing Hughes as an old man. There is no historical accuracy, but he is a billionaire who is wildly respect. Even Mr Trump could get a pretty, ingenue as a mogul if he became one. This is Beatty's least vain performance
