And instead of a healthy, robust "block" feature like FB and numerous other sites have, they have "ignore" which is fcking useless. Putting people on "ignore" does less than sht. It allows them to continue stalking, harassing and doxxing you, only now you can't see it so you can't defend yourself. It's fcking bone stupid.

I'm tempted to say the troll trend reached new heights thanks to the comic book movies and other recent blockbusters. Too many fanboys (and girls) who love fictional characters but have no affinity for real people. The type to give the latest action schlock 10/10 but leave classic movies with a 5/10. I'm sure that was getting embarrassing for Amazon to have to keep posting IMDB's "ratings."

Wow, that was actually a well thought out, rational and logical response! I didn't know if I'd see this from you or not.

But I think that you are correct, that with the rise of comic book movies with massive fanbases, that the it certainly drew a different kind of audience. This movie is a perfect example with people who rated it a 10/10 simply because it starred 4 women and gender swapped out the original cast of characters.

I mainly use it for ratings, reviews and trivia. I can see their point. It keeps it clean as there are some utter weirdos in the boards. I had fun on the boards,it is a shame, but there are other boards.

Pretty much. What doesn't help is that companies cater to and enable these individuals.

For example, Leslie Jones has said incredibly racist things about others on her Twitter Account, yet she had another individual permanently banned (not for things that he said to her) but for his "supposed" involvement of getting others to message her.

Paul Feig is a PERFECT example of how sensitive little snowflakes are. Rather than own up to the mistakes of this movie, he immediately went on the aggressive and hostile position and called everyone who disagreed with him "misogynists" and it eventually became the marketing campaign for this movie.

Really? THAT is how you market a film? The internet has created an enabling culture for the very loud, yet very small minority who just whine and cry when they do not get their way. The next few years should see a shift in positions from these folks thinking that they have any sort of influence over others.

The closure of IMDb boards will certainly help out Hollywood filmmakers and such who make less than desirable films and series. In a way it's good, but for them not for us (the customers). Then again, without the word of mouth niche movies/series will get less free publicity so it's a flawed but workable method for the majority of Hollywood.

I'm not here in support of IMDb boards shutting down or Hollywood but it's just how things are.

At some point, IMDB figured out that the forums were out of hand. They actually have to employ people to moderate them, and they got sick after awhile of trimming whole threads. They decided the forums weren't worth the effort THEY put into them anymore and punted.

It's a shame, I like the forums, and they're a fantastic part of the site, even with all the crap to wade through.
