Westworld : Meaningful Names

Meaningful Names

From tvtropes:

Dolores means "sorrow" and is related to the Latin word for pain or grief.

Dr. Ford shares his name with the man who killed famous Western outlaw Jesse James.

Maeve is an Irish name that means "she who intoxicates", rather apt for a beautiful, alluring prostitute in the Wild West.

Bernard's surname (Lowe) hints at 16th century rabbi Judah Loew, who according to legend created a golem to protect the ghetto from anti-semitic attacks. When he forgot to deactivate the golem one night before the Sabbath it began to go out of control.
Also regarding Bernard's name: Bernard Lowe is also an anagram for Arnold Weber, Ford's deceased partner.

The name Logan cames from the Gaelic word for "hollow," befitting his utter lack of empathy for anyone.

In contrast, "William" comes from the German words for "will/desire" and "helmet/protection." Part of his Character Development is his desire to protect Dolores (which in turn makes him grow a spine).

Re: Meaningful Names

Nice research and observations. I often think TV writers do this deeper level of research to give the characters and story extra signification (or at least helps makes it fun for writers).

Re: Meaningful Names

I like to think so.

Wyatt (Wyatt Earp).
Clementine (My Darling Clementine).

I have to admit, whenever I hear the surname Ford in the context of a western, I immediately think of John Ford.

Re: Meaningful Names

That is a possibility.

Re: Meaningful Names

Teddy / Theodore has roots in Greek and means Gift from God.

Dolores means sorrows but can also be seen as an homage to the Virgin Mary since it comes from La Virgen Maria de los Dolores

Felix - latin for Lucky

William - Gunslinger William Brocius, best known for being pursued and killed by Wyatt Earp. This is a stretch since he's not that famous a histroical character, but the fact that he's done in by Wyatt means I couldn't resist putting this theory in

Armistice - means truce (funny, she didn't seem to be one for truces)

Re: Meaningful Names

Felix and Sylvester=Two famous cartoon cats.

Delos=Famous island outside Greece which had big importance back in the day of Apollo.

Interstellar - Pruit Igoe and Prophecies

Re: Meaningful Names

The girl in the picture Dolores' father finds is Claire Unabia from Top Model. The photographer credited by Getty Images for the picture is a man named Erik Von Weber. As in Bernard Weber. http://www.slashfilm.com/westworld-times-square-photo/

(Bernard Weber can also be spelled as Bad Rener Brew)

Re: Meaningful Names

Now that is just "wut?" worthy. Cool. It might surely have been his condition to use his images: Get a name in the show somewhere. Or the creators of the show are just cool to him. I reckon the city images that Bernard is showing Hector is the same thing? Stock imagery of our current present first world.

Re: Meaningful Names

Blade Runner and The Terminator are perhaps the two most famous robot movies there are, so here I was thinking the park's creators got their names from those films' stars. Can't believe I didn't make the Robert Ford connection. Show Ford is also shot in the back of the head, like the historical Ford famously shot James.

Re: Meaningful Names

Arnold is Alef is God, the first letter of the Alefbet. The origin of all. Weber means 'weaver', the one who weaves illusion - Maya. He is Brahman. The Dreamer of reality.
Bernard is Bet is the second letter of the Alefbet. The first man created by the Dreamer, and made real. Lowe from 'low', inferior state of being.

The Dreamer is a concept in Borges' writings - see 'The Circular Ruins', and the Nolans declare themselves as fans of Borges.

Ed Harris played Wilford in the movie Snowpiercer. Wil-ford means Strong Will - a concept in Nietzsche's (the dood with "mankind killed God") writings - see Will to Power.

Given that Ford is white and MiB is black, they must be the Duality. Eloah and the Adversary. Good Cop and Bad Cop. Playing Job from the both ends. Kant's social dialectics.

Teddy is Theodore meaning God given.

Dolores is 'pain', the woman, sentenced to a life of suffering, for eating a fricking apple from the tree of knowledge. What a shame

Re: Meaningful Names

Dolores is a woman, and she's been cursed to suffer for eating a fricking apple from the tree of knowledge. What a shame

Wasn't that Eve?

Re: Meaningful Names

yeah. Teddy (God given) and Dolores (pain, suffering) are Adam and Eve, created by Elohim (the gods - plural of El - god) in Their image, and denied life from the Tree of Life. Banished from eden, into a dead world, an inferior world, a world of toil and torment, until the judgment day comes - to grant life (the real deal, not the ersatz they experienced on earth) to the dead, stuff like that.

note that Elohim is an inferior god, above him stands the Supreme Principle, the Dreamer.

note also, that there's a hierarchy of created beings, above Adam and Eve: the angels, the archangels, the thrones, the cherubs, the seraphs

Abominations, really

What sort of crack are you on?

Re: Meaningful Names

google "Nolan Borges". The Nolans are fans of Borges - an author of esoteric writings.
Borges has short stories like Alef - Alef is the first letter of the Hebrew Alphabet, and the symbol of God, or El, Eloah, Allah - Alef-Lamed (AL) in Semitic (Arab and Hebrew).

The Hebrew symbol Alef - means God, First, Power, Bull Head, Leader - google "hebrew symbols meanings"

Borges imagines God as a Dreamer. The concept of the Dreamer has been put into film by Christopher Nolan in the movie Inception.

The concept of the Dreamer, is mirrored in Hinduism, as the Brahman, a supreme entity who weaves the Maya, the illusion, what we call reality, like a spider weaves his web. Hence the name Arnold Weber.

Arnold Weber is thus the first and the only true one - THE ONE, who dreamed the illusion - everything and everyone we see in Westworld.
We can't see Arnold, because He is "eternal, immortal, and invisible, the only God" - 1 Timothy 1:17

This Alef, Brahman, the Dreamer, creates, dreams, the first man, and makes him real. "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." Colossians 1:15

Ford is not the creator of Westworld, or if he is, he is only creating inside the world created by Arnold.
You may be familiar with the technique of assigning numeric values to the letters of the alphabet - say, Roman numerals, I=1, II=2, III=3, IV=4, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100, D=500, M=1000.
What we call numbers - 1, 2, 3, 4 etc are in fact Arab letters, this is called Gematria.

Thus, in Gematria, Ford's initial is F=6. Thus, Ford is a 6th level god, an inferior god.
But, the letter f, corresponds to Alef inverted, thus Ford was given godly powers. It is the last letter in Alef, and is a stylized, inverted, corrupted, . In other words, God is the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega in the Greek alphabet, or A and Z in Latin alphabet. Letters Z and F, and number 7, are stylized Alef - , but f is inverted 7 - google "Morbid Angel Formulas Fatal to the Flesh" that is, 666.

But, since Ford is only the 6th letter, not the 7th letter - God's number, he is thus of a lesser condition than that of the supreme God. Ford is an imperfect god. A lesser god, himself created by God. He was given power over this world - "the whole world lies in the power of the evil one" - 1 John 5:19. He is the end. The bringer of death. the 6th.

Now take a look at the name Maeve Millay. She who intoxicates & devil, evil spirit (Quechua). The capitals are MM, that is, 33 rotated 90 degree cw. The third letter of the alphabet - C from Christ. The highest degree in masonry.
This play on the initials MM or WW or CC, is so spread, it's ridiculous: Marilyn Manson, Marshall Matters (Eminem - M&M), Marilyn Monroe, Mandy Moore, Mad Max, Mickey Mouse, Master Mason, etc. google "Walt Disney club 33"

WestWorld is nothing more nothing less than an occult doctrine put into film. Abominations, really

Re: Meaningful Names

None of that is interesting to me and seems like nothing more than the fever dreams of an opium addict. Also, our numbers are not of Arabic origin. They are Hindu. It's a common misconception that al-Khwrizm the inventor of algebra was Arabic and therefore used Arabic numbers. That is incorrect. He was Persian and used Hindu numbers.

All that is the occult mumbo-jumbo behind the production called WestWorld. I personally think it's insanity.

I repeat, the Europeans imported the numerals from the Arabs, not from the Persians or the Hindus. You may not like the idea, and that's understandable.

Interesting that they didn't include William's and Logan's full names. That leaves an opening for "Logan" to be Ted "Theodore" Logan and "William" to be Bill S. Preston, Esquire.
