Classic TV: The 60s : Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Such an underrated show! I've been watching several episodes and laughed my ass off! Mister Ed and Wilbur are wonderful together, truly a memorable duo.

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Not a huge fan, but I watched it sometimes.

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Should be remade starring Hannah Davis and her horse....Wait....When was the last time they made a show based on a funny commercial?.....Cavemen?....hmmmm....Never mind!

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Shut up about the remakes.

Its theme song is more irritating and tougher to get out of your head than the Gilligan's Island song.

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Definitely a fan! It's a no brainer...innocent and predictable but a refreshing change from the crap that's on today!

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Watched it as a kid and enjoyed it; saw it years later and it still held up as genuinely amusing. There was one episode, where Wilbur is being chased by a lion at an animal park, that was laugh out loud funny, mostly due to Ed's comments.

"Holler, don't hit!" -Mr. Ed

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

My favorite episode is Wilbur The Masher, when Ed gets him into trouble for sexual harrassment. So hilarious! Must have been pretty risque for TV in the 60's.

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

I LOVE Mister Ed! Sure, you had to suspend disbelief for most of it, but it was still a funny show - the writers were great! And you could tell that Alan Young really loved his four-footed co-star.

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Connie hines was one of the most beautiful women in the history of television. wilbur sure was lucky.

Re: Are there any Mister Ed fans here?

Yes, I'm a fan. Got a kick out of watching the reruns as a kid. Discovered it on one of the nostalgia channels a few years back, and I'll watch it off and on even though they keep cycling through the same set of episodes.

Apart from an interest in the retro appeal, I will say that my main reason for watching now is Connie Hines. She was a buxom cutie! Adorable! And that leads to my speculation . . .

Arthur Lubin, the show's creator, is generally considered to have been gay. I think that the very premise of Mister Ed had this as a covert message. Here is Wilbur with a knockout young wife, who complains about and to Wilbur spending too much time in the barn with the horse! I think Carol was the beard.

Then again, sometimes a horse is horse, of course, of course. Never would have occurred to me as a kid, but as a jaded, cynical middle-aged man?

And Connie looked really hot when she was mad. Anyone notice that?
