Classic TV: The 60s : My first watch of Burke's Law (1960's)

My first watch of Burke's Law (1960's)

It is pretty good, always liked Gary Conway from Land of the Giants and was good to see him play a Detective. He had good chemistry with Gene Barry.
The Episode I watched also had Elizabeth Montgomery in too which is never a bad thing.

Strange to see an old Police procedural show, strange in that the formula hasn't really changed in my eyes. It is only really the technology advancement that makes the new stuff like CSI different. You still have the leads that lead to multiple interviews/interrogations and more leads in the case.
The humour isn't really any different apart from what you can get away with during the times that these shows were made.

I will be watching more of this show in the future.

Any other fans of this show?

It was a well made show, very much of the Frank Sinatra "ring-a-ding" side of the 60s. One's enjoyment of it will be either helped or hindered by one's fondness for all the old Hollywood stars and character actors that pop up in the episodes all the time. The mysteries are themselves good, but it's often the guest stars,--often playing against type, but not not always--who make it special, or did when I watched it when the show was new.

Yes I like it when a guest star pops up that I have seen in other TV & film, Gloria Swanson & Buster Keaton being the two standouts for me so far (along with Elizabeth Montgomery of course).

It is on Talking Pictures TV at present so I get to watch it every other day, fast becoming a favourite of mine.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. ABC and Four Star productions had a hit on their hands, and after two seasons they decided to jump on the spy craze of the mid-60s and they made Amos Burke a secret agent, which killed the series. All the other regulars were dropped. It's like they were trying to turn Burke into Bond, James Bond. If they'd stuck with their original winning formula I can see the show lasting to the end of the decade, with the last two or three seasons in color. If so, it would now enjoy a classic status. Instead, it's a fondly remembered oddity. With more episodes it might have been a hit in reruns, with the name Amos Burke famous, like Jim West and Richard Kimble.

Burke's Law is on TV in Central N.J now on Decade's TV channels. In the Freehold area it's #112. Great to see all the old shows again.

Verily I say unto thee...I preferred it when it became "Amos Burke, Secret Agent". Plenty of fighting in that, not so much in "Burke's Law".
