First off, I liked this movie overall. The actors were well-cast, the script was deceptively smart, and the location was gorgeous.
But did anyone else think the dresses for both Maggie and the queen were just terrible? I think they were trying for "elegant in their exquisite simplicity," but it didn't come off. I thought literally any of the dresses we could see on the rack that Maggie rejected were better than the one she wore. The material for the red one in the coronation scene just looked cheap. And the queen's coronation dress didn't even seem to fit her properly, although the train helped the overall effect. Plus, what on earth were they thinking with that hideous, shiny, loose jacket she wore when talking to Adrian in the pre-coronation scene?
And it's not just "the style," because there were plenty of women in the background with much nicer dresses.
