The New Edition Story : No mention of Whitney???

Never even mentioned Bobby dated and married Whitney and had baby Bobbie Christina.

Well, the TV news reporter referred to Whitney as being Bobby's wife, but yeah, I'm surprised there wasn't anything more than that.

I want to say it was during the scene in Ricky's house when he was doing coke right before his wife came home, but I'm probably wrong. Can anybody help with this?

There was something on the news in one of the scenes that mentioned Bobby and Whitney. But yeah that was pretty much it.

This is just an assumption but her fam is mad sensitive when it comes to the use of her name and likeness. I'm sure they're still p.o. about her lifetime betrayal. Bobby's not trying to lose money just to mention them or her name. Or it could be a call on Bobby, maybe he was like they know all about that(or it's already been done). What's the point in wasting space on something already documented online anyway. Who knows why she wasn't mentioned. Again just my guess.

We didnt need BET to pull a Lifetime movie moment. Basically that channel screwed us up w/ Whitneys story by mking it bout the couple.

This version stayed true to only showcasing the guys and minimizing everyone else. Its like asking why not show an actress to play Stacy Lattisaw or Wil Smith (BBD did a scene on his tv show).

Glad they limited others in their lives.

I don't know who Stacy liv is??? But anyways I didn't expect a big thing or whatever I just wanted to see another layer of the Bobbie character. They didn't need to show Whitney to achieve this. they could have had the guys causally make mention of Whitney and ask Bobbie about it. That was a big deal and probably added more to his big azz ego or have him brag about Whitney. Or someone could have congratulated him on the marriage or baby. And had him speak on growing up and trying to do better for his family. It was weird not to make mention of it.

At least in the temptations David Ruffin was asked about his childhood and he was able to explain he had a rough pass which probably caused his later bad behavior in the movie as an adult. But we have no real reason why Bobbie was so wild or did he ever go to rehab or therapy or anything. He was made crazy the whole movie with no real reason or resolution.

Stacy Latisaw is who Johnny Gill dated and a great singer also. Yes it was mentioned in newscast but glad it didn't overshadow movie.I remember they were on Oprah back in the day (mentioned in movie) and I felt the Bobby and Whitney Questions overshadowed the group's moment.

You would have to be older to know of Stacy Lattisaw. She had a couple of good songs.

No real mention of Whitney Houston (Of P Diddy) so the movie makers don;t have to deal with clearances from their camps or estate.

Very well said. The movie was about New Edition, not Whitney Houston. Her presence in this movie would have been little more than a distraction; as you said, her marriage to Bobby didn't really have anything to do with NE anyways.

Because the movie wasn't about every aspect of their lives. The focus was on their lives within and slightly outside of the group context. There's a lot Chris could have touched on but NE all choose what they wanted to be the focus.

They didn't even mention the other 2 original members either but this is the New Edition story whether she was mentioned or not isn't really a concern.

No need it's an NE movie. They mentioned her in passing.

In the newscasts and she was also at Ronnie's wedding. You see her from the back dancing with Bobby and when Brooke was giving his speech, the camera showed each member with their ladies, except when showing Bobby, we see she is out of the frame to the right of him.

I'm guessing it has to do with respect to Bobby and the Houston family. Yes, her story isn't central to NE, but they mentioned Stacy Lattislaw more than Whitney. And Stacys story also has little to no place in NE. IIRC on Unsung, she and Johnny are on good terms and, or course, she's alive and well. So mentioning Stacy doesn't stir up any potential controversy
